Throwback 7/11-7/17 + Robot Day! 2014-07-17 12:00:20

Tomorrow is ROBOT DAY! I have no idea what to expect for turnout since it wasn't pushed too hard this year but maybe we're in for a big surprise. You still have time to jam out on a robot themed movie, game, art or music! Upload it on July 18th and tag it with "robotday2014" to be included in the festivities!

I'm still getting caught up on Game Jam 10 after my extended recovery period.

Throwback Thursday

This week in 2007 we were wrapping up the Rock Out Rhythm Game Contest so you'll see a bunch of those in the games listing! There are also some Luis Day gems in here.

Games will be in the first reply to this thread since it's all too big for one post.

hey speaking of robot day there's still room in the next Sarcastic Collab for anyone who wants to join in on the fun!

The theme this time is, of course, robots! Animate something robotronic and PM it over to me if you want in, here are the specs:

- 720 x 405
- 24fps
- make it sarcastically robotic!
- we're aiming to submit it tomorrow, so make it snappy!
- then send me the fla, or a png sequence if you aren't using flash.

here's a taste of what's coming.

Ugh I had a ton of movies that got cropped, they are now at the top of the second post. I really let these posts get away from me, I just feel bad leaving out anything that doesn't get many chances for exposure nowadays.

Quick Question:

In the case of music, incorporation of the Robot theme is a slightly delicate matter, because the medium isn't visual. (Unless there's lyrics. Lets pretend lyrics aren't a thing for a second)

Is it mandatory to incorporate very distinct elements that very clearly outline the theme?
Surely, the clearer you represent the theme , the better, but is there a strict "It has to be blatantly obvious or it's a bust" policy?

Not all entries seem to follow theme for these NG days, but if you DO incorporate theme into your submission, the important folks do notice, and it helps rise above the generic dancey/dub-steppy songs that simply have "robotday2014" tags included.
Personally, I love when people put the time and effort in creating brand new material specifically for these day events.

If the song wasn't made with a robot theme in mind then it's best to not enter it. Ultimately it comes down to people listening to it and saying, "Yeah, this embodies the spirit of robots!"
