The new year is off to a good start! This past month introduced the arrival of a new trend: Art Forum Collabs! I'm particularly pleased with the latest submission, Food Chain. Not only is it a clever concept but it also features music from the Audio Portal, as ALL SUBMISSIONS SHOULD!

We had some out of town visitors in January, with Dan Paladin visiting from Cleveland to work on Castle Crashers and DanMalo in town from Vegas to help with the post-holiday prize rush. We made Queers of War, which disturbed many users but apparently pleased enough to get voted #1 this month. Don't worry, the prize is being passed down the line!

QoW also attracted a threatening letter from Epic's legal representation, although the threat was withdrawn after a chat with the VERY COOL people at Epic. I was hesitant to share any of the ongoing drama publicly because I didn't want to unintentionally villainize Epic, as we really are HUGE FANS of Gears of War and think that every gamer in their right mind should own a copy.

Our shipment of 6x11 Wacom tablets finally arrived, so we started sending out the Wacom tablets from our Holiday Give-Away! So far we have shipped out all the tablets for the US winners. We still need to ship out the international winners, which will require customs forms in triplicate and all that crap.

Moving along, here are the winners for Best of January, as selected by the top 2,000 active users! Each winner will receive $250, an award certificate and a t-shirt.

The randomly selected active user of the month is MC-Booga! MC-Booga will receive $100 and a t-shirt as thanks for being an active voter this past month.

That wraps things up for the January prizes! Everyone should note that we are celebrating a second annual PICO DAY on April 30th. There will be prizes like last year, which I'll be announcing in the near future. If you aren't familiar with Pico, it was one of the early "hits" here on Newgrounds, back in 1999. You can find more background here.

Finally, keep the Bytesize submissions coming! Just be sure to put some effort into them, there's a lot of submissions that aren't making the cut. If you like tentacle monsters, check out the latest Art Forum Contest, complete with cash prizes!

Yeah, I really love the Art Collabs, too.

Hopefully there will be a lot more to come!

A threat from the Gears of War folk? Bit much don't you think? If anything, the flash made me want to play the game more, is that wrong?

Anyway, is that the first threat you've had in a while? I haven't heard of any new ones since I read the history page with the tellytubby fun land and Penny Bain stuff.

lol. Sorry, it just goes on my mood and if I think the music works well in my flashes or not. Unfortunately, none of the music from the Audio portal fits for my flashes.

I guess I should check the AP a bit more.
QoW also attracted a threatening letter from Epic's legal representation

lol!

Ooh, Pico Day coming soon. In about 2 months time. I won't be submitting a Pico Day flash, unless I get some crazy idea.

Hm, all four Castle movies made it to the list, and only the part finale made it to the top 6. That must feel awesome for the guy who made them.

Yeah, they were great movies, very in depth :). Anyway, congrats to all winners. At least the random user wasn't a one post level 1 guy, but an awards winning guy :D. Anyway, congrats again.

Oh crap, I thought we could vote until February 7, not by, as I didn't get to vote. Usually we had until on February 7, right? This time the monthly 10 were posted really fast. Anyways, congrats to the winners!

you realise the admins know who's alt you are? obviously you're an alt or you wouldn't care about the layout so much when you've only joined recently

Tom, you know that Queers of War was rigged. Too many users wanted to suck up to you and the other high NG users.

THANK GOD it's not April 1st like last year. This time around, I'll have plenty of time to come up with something good, at least better than my 2006 submission.

Response to Best of January 2007-02-07 17:31:59

Pretty good choices of winners this time. I really liked Meat Grinder and -LSF- too, at least those got on the runner-up list. :D

Pretty surprised to see Queers of War on top though... even if it didn't win any money. I think a lot of people vote for Firth's stuff just because he made it too, even though I like David Firth's stuff.
