Okay, here is my complete idea for the "Lit Portal" I'm not sure how much has already been suggested, but please take the time to read through it.

Overview

It would be great to be able to share scripts, poems, stories, short stories, etc.. and speaking of scripts, it could even be a place where you could "hire" (recruit) animators, voice actors, and programmers if they were interested in helping you animate, or make your script/story in to a full quality flash animation or game. It would also attract a great deal of attention from a whole new audience to Newgrounds, and I'm pretty sure you would be swarming with new members, much more activity, more flash animations, games, and more audio.

Details

With the poems, stories, and scripts; It could be similar to the audio portal, in the respect to the search system and review system... If you wanted to search for a certain type of poem, such as Haiku or something, there could be a category listing like there is in the audio portal where you could select "Short Story," "Script," "General Poetry," "Haiku," or other things such as that. Also, as you are viewing the authors works, you would be able to post a review, like in the audio portal, to tell the author what you thought of their writing technique, their style etc.

I have a few idea's that tie in with this as well. For security purposes, all of the writings could go through a similar process as new flash videos/games do, and they could be voted on based on quality, and it would probably help filter out the crap, if you know what I mean. There could also be a button when you are viewing the person's works of writing, that says "apply for position" or something along those lines, where you would be given a list of positions that the author was requesting (if the writing was a script, and they needed someone for hire) and when you select which position you would like to apply for, a message is sent to the author, informing him/her that someone has applied for the position (and it would give their name and an option to message them back). That would give the author some time to look at the applicants previous works and see if they are worthy of the job. (Also there would have to be some sort of option where you could stop any further applications from being made, due to what could obviously happen.)

To divulge even deeper into my idea, I think it would be fantastic as well to be able to have a tutorial section in the lit portal, where fellow writers could write about tips and tricks they use in their works. It would be a great place for learning and sharing. I think the writer's portal would be a great new addition to Newgrounds, and the world!

Anyways, this is just my idea that I felt like I should share with Newgrounds. I've been using Newgrounds for quite some time to post my audio, on a couple different accounts, and I figured that it's time for me to give something back.

Much thanks to all who have taken the time to read this,
Sincerely,
Aaron.

It would be awesome if the number of New Reviews for songs could include reviews that have not yet been replied to instead of those that have occurred within the last two days.

Possibly a way to change back and forth for each individual user just in case they like the two days thing...

--- a. What level of user demand for this idea would there be?

There would be demand from users who don't get a lot of reviews, and would like to know if they got any if they were away for a while.

Sometimes I'm gone for a few days and I haven't counted my audio reviews. I can't tell whether or not I got any new ones by just looking at my audio page, I have to go through and look at the reviews.
This isn't much of a problem for me right now, but looking towards the future...

--- b. Does it serve a purpose?

Yes ^

--- c. Is there something else NG does that already takes care of this?

Not that I know of

--- d. Include your reasoning in your post.

^ ^ ^

Just thought of a few tweaks and additions for the main section of a flash page.

-Report game rating:
As a lot of you should know there are a lot of flashes with wrong ratings like people making dick flashes and saying they're suitable for all audiances. Since the admins and mods are always busy with stuff though it could be a needed ammount of votes to change it or something along those lines.

-View all medals:
Just a link to your medals collection, could be handy if you want to view what you've just unlocked.

-Awards moved to the sidebar:
I thought it looked kinda cool but it's one of those things that really shouldn't be changed and most of the community would probably prefer it where it was anyway.

okay im not whining but why the heck does people use mild audio and text ratings on words like "FUCK" or "SHIT". Its not fair. They should have mild, moderate and excplit not mild and exclipit. kinda like use it in a level way not the quantity.

While we're on the topic of submission rating, that needs to be reworked a bit.

The only time something is given an 'adult only' rating is if there's at least 'excessive nudity' in it. That shouldn't be the only kind of rating that makes it 'adult only'. It could have mild nudity and excessive everything else, and still be 'mature' rated. Sure, spammers could take advantage of this, but I still feel like the rating system needs to be looked at again.

Well this isn't so much a new idea as an improvement...

New submissions that get a good score invariably shoot to the top of The Top Scoring List Of All Time in the portal, and then as more people give it a low score after a few weeks it drops out of it. Perhaps this is because the hype of a front page submission makes people feel obliged that they must give the submission a high score. Whatever.

My problem is that the name "of all time" suggests to me that this will be a list of "classic" submissions that still get good scores when all the hype has died down. One way of solving this, I think, is to only allow submissions that are a year old to enter the list.

Just a thought: make it so users can't weigh in on their own reviews. I've seen plenty of really stupid reviews that someone, probably the user has weighed in on themselves.

This is a copy + paste of a post I made for my ideas about the medal system, please read and consider these ideas.

"Any admin, Affilate or mod of any type(Because they already have enough responsibility, maturity, etc.) will be able to upload a game with medal whenever they want.

When any other user wants medals to his game these should be the requirements:

1.) Passed Judgment
2.) Has a 3.40+ score(I know this is hypocritical to what I said earlier, but I have a point.)
3.) Must be nominated by at least 10 users with 6.00+ total vote power.

From there I think it should be submitted to Goldfish's inbox where he will review the game, judge whether it is worth medals or not.

If it is then he will give it medals(But he will chose the medals and the point awards, to avoid from misusing medals)

If he doesn't want it to have medals a notice on the flash will appear saying it was rejected for medals and it will be impossible to nominate for medals anymore.

When nominating a flash these are the requirements:

1.) Flash has passed judgment
2.) Flash has 3.40+ Score(Once a flash gets medals if it falls below that score it doesn't matter)
3.) The flash hasn't already been rejected for medals.
4.) You must be logged in.
5.) Your EXP combined with your B/P bonus MUST equal 6.00+ for total voting power.
6.) you must click on the nominate button somewhere obvious on the page that is obvious and easy to find."

Suggestions:

1. When you are submitting a flash, if you have selected "Movie" and not "Game/Interactive," there should be a section where you can put the length of the movie.

2. On people's account information, they should be able to toggle on and off, a setting that says "Last on x days x hours x minutes ago."

I have 4 concerns about the audio portal

1) The Zero Bombers. I'm not sure if this happens on the flash portal as well or not, but it needs to stop and i have a couple of suggestions how. I suggest this, make either a list of all the people who vote on your submissions to find out exactly who bombs you so you can report them and if they get a sufficient number of reports they can be punished accordingly.

Or (I much prefer this suggestion as people could get reported when they truly think it deserves a zero), make them vote alongside the review, so that they have to say why they voted Zero on it, and if they don't have a valid reason, remove the review and vote. I've had a couple of my reviews from the flash portal deleted for me not giving any constructive criticism, I've learned from this, and so may the zero bombers.

2) Unpopular songs get VERY little reviews. I find myself unable to improve as not many people give me constructive criticism. I know this is partly because the audio portal is very unpopular compared to the flash portal, but i also reckon it's because of this: The flash portal has the daily leaderboard, whereas the audio portal does not. I reckon if you improve the weekly leaderboard on the audio portal so it's like the one on the flash portal, and add a daily leaderboard like the ones on the flash portal too. And maybe have separate daily and weekly leaderboards for each genre as well. I believe that this will dramatically change the number of people reviewing on the audio portal.

3) One other small thing is that you don't get voting power from voting on audio portal submissions. I spend most of my time on newgrounds on the audio portal, and I would probably have quite a high voting power by now, but i don't as you don't get voting power from it. I, and probably a lot of other people, would love for you to get voting power on the audio portal.

4) One last thing. It says on the audio portal new songs list that a song with a great score should be in green, and songs with an awesome score in blue like on the flash portal. But this doesn't work. I think that this would dramatically change the amount of reviews great and awesome songs will get. I find myself looking for good, new songs to review and I always go on terrible songs that i personally believe would be blammed if songs in the audio portal could get blammed.

I hope you all agree with me on some if not all of my concerns. The audio portal is underrated, not much attention is payed to it. A Lot of improvements need to be made in my opinion.

Thanks
Netty

Pictures should return next to User of The Day. The main reason to get rid of them was to prevent people from showing not safe for work material on the BBS.

But now we have icons showcased everywhere: Store, Frontpage, Audio Portal, Reviews, etc. Why can't someone show off their icon liljim? We have icons everywhere else?

I would like a PM auto-sent to me during monthly voting. Sometimes I just don't notice the extra link in my banner. I make it a habit to do the monthly voting, and I'd prefer not to miss it. The option to turn it off should be available to those who don't want to be reminded.

Also, when I'm doing the monthly voting, if I forget what I just voted for, well I'm SOL, because I can't check which flash I voted for what place until I've voted for every position, and I can't rearrange them when I'm done. I just want to be able to pick the top 10 I like, then arrange them how I see fit. What I tend to do is vote on whichever I see first, since I don't want to lose it, as the list is very cluttered, not exactly organized in a pretty way. I do try to put the best submissions on top, but it's still unfortunate that I'm reduced to picking whichever I see first, and I do believe the monthly voting could use a face lift.

I would like the Collections page to be organized better, it's just a drop down list for each category, one placed on top of the other, with whichever the admins think is best or most relevant put on top. I had a hard time finding the puzzle game Proximity when I couldn't remember it's name. Perhaps there could be sub-categories for each category? There are different kinds of puzzle games. Concerning shooters, there's FPS, shooters that you can take cover in, realistic shooters like when you're a rogue cop, sci-fi shooters, etc.

I believe these changes will be good for NG veterans and newbies alike.

Thank you for your time.

I just had an idea. The 'post to front page' secret should be opened to THREE users at a time, and only accept a link to an existing flash entry.

That way, front-page exposure feels opened to the casual user, and there's three more slots for front-page exposure. Optional: audio portal links. If the site's existing snazzy CSS styling for portal links are applied, I think it'd be a great way to improve that archaic feature.

I think users should be automatically PMed when they become users of the day.

Also I think there should be a small section in our profile that says "This user has NOT been UOTD yet." Or, "This user was UOTD on *Insert date here*"

Just something I think would be a nifty feature, nothing big just a small little blurb.

One other I'd like to say as a politics regular:
SPECIAL RULES FOR POLITICS
Because it really is a different atmosphere than the other forums. The discussions are a lot more serious, and there's already been several attempts to write the unwritten rules down that have been created over the years.
As far as I know this one is the closest list we've got, but I would like to see some specialized rules for politics.

Api money as store credit

*Cough Cough* bob we had a chat about this... why don't you discuss this??? Newgrounds would make more money if you did this. E.G. say i want a Penicorn... Thats 15$ you could have but won't have because i'm to lazy to put my credit card in.

Imagine all the users which would buy stickers, t shirts and much more! Hey tom would you like $500 on the first day?? Yes? Good thinking!!

You could even have a "Convert" button at the api! it would make you type how much to convert to store credit!

Like seriously you can put in a fancy pop up for Links E-mails bold italic and underlines but no button to make you money??

If you'd like me to talk with you... i'd be glad to speek with Sir Tom/ Wade VIA phone...

Tom or Wade or bob may send me a MSG if you would like to speak with me VIA phone/ Msn/ FB/Twitter...

Thanks for reading my freaking long paragraph which might not do anything besides make you money.

I thought about a little suggestion that may benefit NG a little bit, as far as I know no-one has suggested something by the style.

In the icon helpers section, older submissions are displayed at the top and the newer flashes are at the bottom. I think this should be the other way around (the newest submissions should be at the top).

Basically, there are 2 reasons why I think this would be good:
- Most people make icons for the flashes which are at the top, because that's the first thing you see. Or at least it looks like that because there are always icons submitted for things at the top. So, most icons are made for older stuff that probably won't be watched as many times as the newest flashes, therefore it doesn't benefit NG at all.
- If you want to make icons for the newest stuff, you have to wait a little while for the whole page to load (depending on your connection). This kinda discourages you to make icons for submissions at the bottom.

And I think that's all, cheers :D

Unlikely to be implemented but it's worth a shot. Please revert the audio and flash favourites management so that when you add a new favourite it does not go to the top of your list, rather the bottom.

I don't know why this happened, Now I have to move my recently favourited flash down the list each time I add a new flash.

It is illogical. One aim of the favourites was for other people to find flash hidden in the depths of the portal and now that this has been changed all that people would find are recent flashes that have been submitted.

It is inconvenient and defeats the purpose of everything.

Create Achievements for doing certain stuff, Xboxdo it, and now PS3have realised what a money maker it is. Lots of other sites do it.

-----------------------------

for example:

"If you create a song that gets over 5 reviews" you get the - Starting Out Achievement or something.

"A flash with over 200 favourites" - Reaching your peak achievement

"Accumulating 70 or more people in one year with you as one of their favourite artists"-The Zero123Music Achievement- ;D

"A topic with over 100 replies...etc.

--------------------------

This should make people want to post in the forums and stuff- be more determined, kinda like the medals for flashes- but for all over the site.

Small, but useful, BBS suggestion:

Link the BBS "Post Reply" page to the thread being replied to.

The current set-up tells me the name of the thread I'm posting in and links to the forum the thread is located, the BBS forum index, and the Newgrounds home page. However, there is no link to the thread itself (there is the id # in the URL when clicking "reply to post", but not with "reply with quote")

Sometimes I use Google to find BBS threads and find results for the "Post Reply" page rather than the thread itself, or I'll leave the "post reply" page open, and want to get back to the thread without having to post (especially if I've opened the "Post Reply" window in a new tab/window, so no back button for me) or go searching for the thread.

I would find it very convenient, and it would seem to be something easy to implement. Example:

We should have an option to hide our medals and/or favorites- mainly medals.

Also, this is kind of silly, but the link to our user page in the top right should always be bright orange even after you click it- it just looks better that way. :)

You should be able to suggest a movie or game for a collection while it is still under judegement. There are lots of good games and movies that never make it into a collection even if they deserve it. Some are forgotten after they pass judgement. I would be more likely to suggest it for a collection when I first play it than I would be to return and suggest it for a collection.

Of course, the suggestions should be withheld until the submission passes judgement. Otherwise, you guys would get swamped with suggestions about blammed submissions.

I was wondering if you could make it so you could make the game genres sortable by things other than name (i.e., best/worst scores, date submitted, etc.). There's getting to be quite a few games in each section now, and it'd make things easier to find newer or top rated games if they were sortable.

11 pages is a bit much for me to search through, so if this idea has been brought up before, let's just say I second the idea. :)

Suggestion for display of Medals on user pages.

I would love to see users able to divide their medals into four categories: earned, incomplete, inactive and trophy case.

Incomplete:
All new medals introduced into games would default here.

Earned:
All medals the user acquires would default into this category.

Inactive:
Users would be able to select any medals from the incomplete category to move into this one.

Trophy Case:
Users would be able to select any medals from the earned category to move into this one.

Essentially, this would allow users to see any new medals introduced, siphon out the ones they may not care about and put their special achievements on display. It'd be great if the trophy case had a special spot on the user page as well.

Anyway, just my two cents. :)

For audio submissions, make a link to the raw mp3 file so it can be played on mobile devices such as iphone and can be listened to without the cpu-hogging visualizer. The download audio button does not work on mobile devices, but the raw mp3 file does.

Make the "more latest audio submissions" and "more top audio submissions" buttons work.

Make the top 30 in audio update every day, not week.

Make a "top 10 most popular audio submissions" section.

That's what Ive got.

Ok, it has bothered me a bit that a lot of submissions that have passed judjment with a descent score (yeah the ones that are green) don't get the exposure they deserve.

How about automating the whole process so that anything with the score of 3+ will be put on the frontpage, instead of being chosen by Tom and crew on the daily five. Kinda like on digg, where the submisson with most votes get to the frontpage.

So basicly moving P-bot up on the frontpage and making the whole thing live.

Gosh I hope he still reads this.

Now I really though it was cool that you could level up on newgrounds and gain better weapons but why can we not use them. Since the forms can render flash with out a pop up I believe that we should put in a battle system. Now lets say some guy made you mad why don't you just kick his butt well with this you could. Now power would be determined by what level and weapon so a level 10 would most likely win against a level 5 but the level 5 would have a small chance to win. When you want to challenge someone you must click a fight button next to this persons name to fight them and that person must agree. If this person accepts you go into a fight, weapons are drawn and they fight to the death. Now if you win you are awarded a a tag for an hour that you kicked that person behind and the loser would receive a tag of shame saying you kicked there butt. This is just an idea but would really like to see something like this I mean why get a chainsaw if you can not use it. Also on the users profile there should be a list of all the people they defeated and all the people that defeated them.

Since this has been coming up a LOT recently I thought I'd post it here. It seems that there has been a lot of submissions with only Spanish in it. Now I know it's a website so it is global but a large majority of users only speak English.
I was thinking in the new redesign you could include something in the flash submission section of the FAQ add something about, "Your flash must include at least an English translation. You may use another language in it but you must translate it seeing as how a large majority of our user base solely speaks English."
Also possibly make it flagable under unsuitable too I'm thinking because there is no way a user that can't understand the language in the submission can fully judge it.

Now I don't mind a flash in Spanish, German, etc. as long as there is an English translation. The BBS has a rule against posting in a language other than English I don't see why it shouldn't apply to the flash portal as well.
