question: consider the following scenario:
there is an outbreak of a deadly disease. any person infected with the disease will certainly die without any treatment.
fortunately, there are two types of drugs against the disease, drug A and drug B. drug A is very costly to produce, there is only enough drug for 1/3 of the total population, but it is very effective as well. if you decide to take drug A, you will certainly recover from the disease with no side effects.
drug B is cheaper. you have enough of it for the whole population. it is not nearly as effective as drug A though. you will still have 2/3 chance of dying if you decide to take drug B. the results are not guarantted. you might be able to save more lives if you are lucky, or conversely, there might be more deaths than expected if you aren't so lucky.
you are only allowed to use either drug A or drug B. which one will you pick?
