i dont think thats a very good idea. although some people (okay, alot of people) may think a movie is either good or bad, nothings is that - good or bad. some movies are truly awesome, some are pretty good, some are okay, some could be better, some are just plain bad, and others suck completely. you cant take away my right to judge a movie based on how it rates with other movies, and give me the right to be the siskel and ebert of the portal. i dont want that. under this new system, movies like the turds of the week would have the exact same score as a mediocre movie that isnt that bad, and that would not be a happy place to live in for me. if you do change the system, make at least three different choices.

And even with 3 choices, there's no distinction between a pretty good movie and a pretty bad movie. And if you make that disdinction, then youve got 4 buttons, which is no so much different from the current 6.

I dont know if this was suggested already cuz Im not reading 11 pages of posts to find out:

'thumbs up/down' system is cool. You should also implement that in the reviews as well on the organizational tip. You know how when giving a review, you can give it an overall score? Change that to the thumbs up/down shit too. Then throw in somethin where people can check out only the good reviews, only the bad reviews.

i disagree with this, becuz mediocre movie like movies which get in the low 2's.... tose movies will be deleted when they shouldnt be, becuz a magority of the people r goin to vote thumbs down.

I rather like the system as is (except every now an then it says I already voted when I haven't). I use the middle numbers alot and that works because I vote mostly on new submission. If the option of picking a middle ground was removed I might not vote very often anymore. I don't think one option in the middle will work either. When I vote I think, "OK, that was nice but I saw it before, nothing special, a 2". I match my feelings on a movie to those on the voting board, which, if more people did, we wouldn't have this problem.

By the way check out my latest game Field of Fire. It got good reviews but to few votes to get anywhere. I just want more votes.

I'm pretty sure you won't even notice this post out of the other 99999 posts, but I have a good idea. Perhaps it was already mentioned, but I'm not about to look through 350 other posts for it. Anyways, I think you should just make the idea a poll.

I have to agree with Pantomime Horse. I think that the thumbs system would be too simplistic, and that the percentage ratings would tend to clump things together too much.

I personally still use all of the buttons, because I realize that my opinion is my opinion, and the points system is in place to give frequent visitors more authority, and I don't need to try to "outweigh" other peoples' votes by being extreme.

But then again, I suppose I'm a little smarter than most of the horny 15-year-olds who vote 5 for porn and make up a huge segment of the NG population.

I think you should definatly change the voting system

I like the 5 point voting system, it lets your vote be more precise, cause lets say you thought a mover wasn't very good but didn't deserve a 0 or a 1, then you can give a 2! I say keep the 5 point voting system!

Thumbs up, Thumbs down, like the ancient gladiators in the colliseum (sp?) Very good idea... if it goes below a 20% approval rating, it's gone... or something like that... some changes would be nice... keep the content fresh and new.... the only problem I see is... how will Pico be represented in this thumbs up thumbs down system!!

Please put the date in the list of movies that a user has uploaded and sort them newest first. That would make my day (and perhaps some others).

I don't think it's a good idea. What if you are voting on something for it's story, but the graphics sucked. well, then you would either give it a thumbs up or down basically. It would give more mystery as to why certain movies are being voted high on the charts. I have a suggestion as well. how about, somebody at NG.com looks through all the entrys you guys get every day, and gets rid of the crap and stupid things that people place in newgrounds. the things that look like they were made by 3 year olds. the people who submit this garbage are just littering newgrounds with unneeded trash that newgrounds doesn't need. if we could get someone on this, that would be great.

P.S. all the crap on the last pages of toons and games should be eliminated. Thanks in advance.

yeah, man I think it is a great idea. I amy not be the most loyal NG fan, however i AM pretty damn sick of seeing scores in the 3's for every single portal entry

Ummm.... why not stick with the current Newgrounds system? I for one, try to shy from 0's or 5's unless I really mean them (or its got lots of votes, in which case I just hit 0 because I want to be dark, since it doesn't matter anyway). There are many cases when the graphics will rule but the story will suck, and vice versa. And good god, can you imagine what only 2 choices will mean to the top 50? There will be TONS of crap! Especially with a percentage-based average system... thats an accident waiting to happen.

eh, i like the current system, if only because it reminds mne of game pro lol. oh, and might i suggest making a ban on javascript ads? my comp has crashed atleast 30 times in the last 10 visits to the site. an i rarely visit anymore cuz of em. i know you need the ads, but, i rarely come back anymore cuz of em... and omg those damn popups. dont put em on movie display pages. those thigns, im trying to watch a movie an 3 popup. so many movies i almost saw but had to reboot my comp...

Seriously!!!!!.....I like your idea but I think that you should have a no thumbs up/down optipn that doesn't count for or against the users but does add one more thing to be averaged into the score, like a .5 thumb ups!

Good Idea. But maybe more because there are movies that are good but maybe not a yes or thumbs up

It should be more like thumbs down, thumbs up, two thumbs up. Maybe another in there, like a neutral?
but then again that's almost the same as 0-5 but with less.

I like the Idea but you really ought to drop the whole dark user light user stuff

I think its a great idea just like everyone else. But, I think there should be a middle ground for the peopl that think that its whatever. Not amazing and not horrible. P.S. I hate all of you.. Suck my balls, Mr. Garison!!

hey fulp, i got a snazzy idea straight from the heart. how bout a thumbs up, a thumbs down, and the finger. that would be lovley. the LORD came to me in the night and brought me that idea

I think you should also have a middle thumm or somthing like that. You should also keep it so the more exp you have your vote counts for more.
