Yo I think it's a great idea! I use 0 and 5 most of the time and hardly use 1-4 anyway!

Even though this new system would mean that the scores lose accuracy, I like the idea.
I also like the idea of the middle button, but what would be the point of it? It wouldn't alter the score in any way, would it? But I suppose it would add to the vote count if the viewer couldn't decide.

What we've noticed is that a lot of users vote either 0 or 5 on movies, because they want to either raise or lower the score. People are igoring 1-4 because there are so many voters and you need to be extreme to make a difference in a movies score.

This is not completely true. What about those of use who mostly use the 1-4 buttons? I rarely find a movie to be so good or so bad that I vote a 0 or 5 on it. (I do vote X's all the time for the porn that's put up here, but 0's and 5's are rare IMHO.)

Sooo... What if we ditched the 0-5 system for a thumbs up / thumbs down system?

I agree there should still be a "flat hand" vote because the portal (like life) just isn't black and white. People who make artistic movies are gonna get slammed by the younguns who just want to see sex and violence (and vice versa). That would be really unfair to these people who may have put long hours of hard work into an entry.

It would simplify the voting process and the results might actually end up being better...

What if they don't? Will you revert back to the X-5 system?

Overall, I thnk it's worth a try, and I'll be very interested to see what the results are.

Sooo... What if we ditched the 0-5 system for a thumbs up / thumbs down system? Basically it would be a yay or nay, and we would calculate a score based on how many thumbs up for how many total votes. For example, if a movie has 10 votes, 6 being a thumbs up, it would have a score of 60%.

It would simplify the voting process and the results might actually end up being better... We could still track light and dark users based on their vote vs. the score... So if a movie has an 80% and someone votes against it, that would still count towards making them a darker user.

What does everyone think of this?

Good Idea

I don't know about everyone else, but I try to vote on what I think the entry deserves. Only rarely do I say something's a 5, and rarer still a 1 or 0, as most items seem fall between the 2-4 range.

I personally like the current voting system...I use ALL 7 of the ratings (x,0,1,2,3,4,5) But if you DO change it to the thumbs up/down thing...PLEASE make a "no thumbs" or "thumbs middle" or something...a simple yes/no isn't good enough...you need a mediocre rating...

Personally, I don't rally see the point of a nuetral button - it wouldn't really make much of a difference to the overall rating. If you don't really feel one way or another, just don't vote!

I have mixed feelings. True, most people I know vote 0/5, but there should be a middle-ground, as has been said beore. But if you put THAT in, how is that so different from a 0-5 scale? It's a good idea, but ultimately it wouldn't change much. I say, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I think that is all a great idea. Extreme voting needs to be available... It's a great idea!

It's not a bad idea, but I don't like it.

I think the voting system is fine the way it is. I am not sure about anyone else, but I do vote 1-4 on some of the movies.

If you put in the thumbs up system, some people might not like it.

Say if someone saw a movie, and they didn't exactly like or hate it. They don't want to give it a thumbs up because it isn't that good. Then again, they don't want to give it a thumbs down because it isn't that bad. In this case they might not vote at all.

So that's what I think.

Thumbs up! I'm only voting 0 or 5 now just because that's the only way to make an impact. Still, along with the thumbs up and thumbs down, one more option needs to be installed. I think that there should be a button to vote for removing something. Not necessary because of violence, but perhaps because the movie is really total crap and is wasting space on the server.
SOOOOOO.... how about a "removal" button too?????

I think it is a good idea to implement the thumbs up/thumbs down system. I can't remember the last time i gave a movie something besides a 0 or a 5, so eliminating 1-4 would be the wise thing to do, as they are pretty useless.

Ya sure Tom that'd be good because I never vote 1-4. Your right. The movies I like I vote 5 every day to help them get a higher rating. I agree with your idea. Hope you go with it!

I prefer the current voting system; but then again there are always downfalls to the current way. There are many well done movies that are voted quite lowly and are underrated. Although I try to vote using X and 0-5, the one to four votes make it quite difficult to keep in a good movie.

The thumbs up/thumbs down idea is good. It's simplistic, and there are many people here who prefer the simplistic stuff instead of more complicated and technical stuff since they hate to think for once, especially when it's not about themselves *cough*

The only concern I have is about the experience votes. I guess I'm not sure about it, but it'll be like the 5.56 votes (example only) would then turn into 5.56 thumbs up or something along the lines.

I think that that is a great idea. Some things just work better if they are simple.
