I prefer the current voting system; but then again there are always downfalls to the current way. There are many well done movies that are voted quite lowly and are underrated. Although I try to vote using X and 0-5, the one to four votes make it quite difficult to keep in a good movie.

The thumbs up/thumbs down idea is good. It's simplistic, and there are many people here who prefer the simplistic stuff instead of more complicated and technical stuff since they hate to think for once, especially when it's not about themselves *cough*

The only concern I have is about the experience votes. I guess I'm not sure about it, but it'll be like the 5.56 votes (example only) would then turn into 5.56 thumbs up or something along the lines.

I think that that is a great idea. Some things just work better if they are simple.

I think it would be a good idea to have a "thumbs up or down" voting system it would elimate the tough decision between if u liked it or u sorta didn't. I for one would like the thumbs up/down

This is a very good idea. I wholeheartedly support this as a suggestion. It makes much more sense if most people are only using 0 or 5 to drop the unused portion of the voting system and streamline the whole thing.
Might even save some screen-space for something else >: )

I never use the 0 or 5 buttons unless I think something really deserves the kind of praise of defamation. I suppose the new system would work better for the majority though so you should give it a try.

It's okay with me, as long as we still get xps, and high lv. people still get more voting power, if not, screw that, fuck 2-4.

NO PLEASE I LIKE THE 1-5 SYSTEM. BUT I HAVE AN IDEA FOR THE REVIEW SYSTEM! YOU SHOULD ADD A 1-10 SCORE FOR STORY. IF IT'S AN IN DEPTH STORY YOU SHOULD VOTE A 10. IF ITS A PIECE OF CRAP FLASHY MOVIE YOU SHOULD VOTE 0!!!

Tom, i been a fan of Newgrounds for a while... not that you give a shit =P, and why should you. But the 0-5 system is fine, see what i do when i score a movie is i look at where it's at, say i really enjoyed it. and the corse is a 3.8 i think it should be higher, i vote a 5, now say i watch another movie wasnt to bad it's a 3.2 i think it should be right around there, i dont wanna vote a 3 cause it will lower it but a 5 might bring it up to high, thats where a 4 is used. now your right most people do vote 0 or 5... and maybe you havent noticed but if you vote a 0 then it says ( you voted zero you rotten bastard) and if ya give it an x it doesnt... just an observation. Now i dont know if the thumbs up or thumbs down would be easier on the code and whole load up of the site in general, probably gets stored in comp's internet cache, so why give your self the extra work? 0-5 works fairly well, and thumbs up or down would be to jumpy, far to easy for a movie to get a perfect 5.0 or 100% if it good, were as if you see a movie you liked but want another movie up higher well ya can give it a 3 or a 4 to lower it or higher it a little... i think i made my point and ill just stop there...

There is only one god, and that is Chaos

I think that it is a good idea as well. But I also agree that there should be a neutral vote as well.
I personally have alsways voted whatever number I felt it should get. But I do agree that the thumbs up and down would be a better system.

At last we change the voting system! Good idea.. It seems too many times my 2,3,4 degree votes have no effect on a crappy movie's standing. I wonder- will a high powered NG member's votes be worth more thumbs than a lower powered Member? Or are we all on even ground here.

What we've noticed is that a lot of users vote either 0 or 5 on movies, because they want to either raise or lower the score. People are igoring 1-4 because there are so many voters and you need to be extreme to make a difference in a movies score.

Sooo... What if we ditched the 0-5 system for a thumbs up / thumbs down system? Basically it would be a yay or nay, and we would calculate a score based on how many thumbs up for how many total votes. For example, if a movie has 10 votes, 6 being a thumbs up, it would have a score of 60%.

It would simplify the voting process and the results might actually end up being better... We could still track light and dark users based on their vote vs. the score... So if a movie has an 80% and someone votes against it, that would still count towards making them a darker user.

What does everyone think of this?

Hey I think it's a very good idea. When I first started my grounds gold account here, and actually started reviewing the flash animations, I used to use the 1-4 only because a 5 to me was just a level of flawlessness that I hadn't seen met. But when I noticed that my way of voting (being the way I'd choose a flick 1-5) wasn't doing squat for a movie, I started using a 5 more, I used it on the movies I deemed at least a 4.5 on my list just in hopes of actually boosting the movie up. Hey some of these people vote for their own stuff, so then I just stopped caring about the movie rankings in all, if a movie gets to me in a good or bad way, I'll just review it as well as vote for it. But I dig the voting system, thumbs up or down is easier, but I still use the 1-5 system :( even though nearly no one else does ;)

Anyway, I'm for the idea, for the greater good, as long as we can keep the ability to write a review, I'm satisfied.

its an ok idea, but it wouldn't work. I mean, all the time i come across portals that are ok, so-so, that aren't good enough for a thumbs up but not that bad for a thumbs down. It's pass or fail for everything. Nothing in the middle. Voting as always been corrupt, especially online voting, but a lot of other things are a lot more corrupt. The idea is ok, but i dont mind having the old system.

That thumbs up and down stuff isn't a good idee if you ask me I mean allot of people are gonna say what am I supposed to do now...
I vote normally like when the movie has a good plot but the animations are bad than I vote 3 or 4 cause the effort id there but not the animation I also review movie about what there supposed to do to make it better but thats not the point the point is that you mussent change the voting system the way it is now is kewl so just let it that way!!

I think this system would be much better, but also include a flat hand (a so-so signal).

Tom,
Whats up dude nothin much here. I agree with the thumbs up thumbs down system.I heard you go to Drexel, I do to, small world I guess, Ive been browsing NG for about a year now since I came to Drexel in fall of 2000. You and your crew have done a excellent job with the site Ive been coming here for some entertainment and comic relief from my co-op job over the summer. I really loved www.drexelshaft.com and crazy shuttle, Drexel students really appreciate that. Anyways I was writing to ask you about this "Stiles" character. Is there anyother way we could get in touch? Email me at stuss_brotha_psu25@yahoo.com if you wanna talk. Keep up the good work later.

Tom, hey, I love your site. I mean I really love this site, but I am not going to kiss your tail and tell you these are good ideas.

I don't want to vote to change someone's score, I want to vote to give them the score that I think they deserve. This is a terrible idea because it will simply annoy many old users. The same 'goal' can be accomplished now by just using <shudder> 0's and 5's.

Also, it seems that the crowd is fairly evenly split on the issue...so why go to all of the trouble. There are many ways to freshen the site up, but don't use this one. All that work to simply LIMIT the input of the users. I would actually rather PAY to use this site than have you limit the voting. Hell, I think it would be a much better idea to INCREASE the vote choices to 10!

Sorry, I was ranting. Anyways, lets look as a community for other ways to improve things and let this go. Thanks again, bro, for a great site.

I think, on second thought, you should have 4 rating choices: "thumbs up, no opinion, thumbs up, or MAKE A SEQUEL" or something like that.

I personally like having more voting options, but I won't be pissed or anything if you change it. As long as I can still feel like God passing judgement upon all of you mere mortals I'll be happy. Mwahahaha...

For the record, though, my vote is to stay with the current system.
