It appears to be some sort of red dragon. The guy who stood guard outside of your town had one on his armor, too. You're not sure of it's significance, but it does look pretty badass. Like something a 19 year old kid who watches too much anime would get tattooed on his arm, with the words "Courage and Honor" in Japanese underneath.

Except it wouldn't say "Courage and Honor", but something like "I swallow dicks", because he clearly went to a disreputable tattoo shop. So now, every time he shows off his tattoo to one of his Japanese-speaking friends, he thinks it's really hardcore, but unbeknownst to him is it's actual meaning. And nobody tells him. Then when he's in his mid-forties or so, one of his Japanese-speaking friends lets the news drop, and he has to deal with the anger and embarrassment of 20+ years of making an ass of himself to everyone around. That would be pretty funny.
