The artist's name should be next to the submission's name so that we can see who made it without having to scroll down. Other than that... GREAT :)

You can't know what you don't know if you can only use yourself as a reference point.

I'll fight you let's go prepare to taste the pain son

BUT in summary - a lot of people are panicking like this is the end-all, when it's really a humble begin-all. it's by no means perfect OR finished

Yeah but I think that a lot of the stuff you're kind of defending with "I like it just fine" and "what about new people?"

Yeah I can see how "portal" might be construed as vague, but it's also a brand for Newgrounds. One of the things that this update really seems to neglect is the community aspect of newgrounds which, I might add, is one of the things that really causes regulars to stay here for years and years.

So when you suddenly have a whole bunch of partitioned off "more sectiony" areas and all that, it kind of detracts from that community aspect that was there before. When you remove things like the Portal, it's basically kind of giving the cold shoulder to folks who liked something about newgrounds in favor of the people who don't.

Yeah I get some things like Turd of the Week being phased out. Yeah I'm okay with there being new styles to things and all that, but I feel like a lot of it doesn't really make sense and, when that's pointed out, is kind of just dismissed as "oh that's just because it's new and you're stuck in your ways".

I don't think that's necessarily particularly fair. Do you really think it's sentimental attachment that makes me prefer labeled buttons and text links over the envelope, the bucket, the thing with the P on it, the cog, the star, and the power switch? Yeah, I will get used to that, it won't be a problem for me after a while, but the fact that it's not apparent and intuitive right now means it won't be for people who are new to the site either, so shouldn't that merit some consideration?

it's actually EASIER to find porn now, i been jacking all day sonnn

No wonder this took so long a-hor-hor-hor

because nobody reads descriptions

I do so!

those who say they do are full of shit.

I READ LOTS OF STUFF DON'T TELL ME I DON'T I'LL KILL YOU HOMES I'M FROM THE STREETS BITCH
No but really, I do read it. Or did, I should say >:|

we live in an ADD driven society

I have ADD and I still read stuff. Like, I'd be working on flash right now, but I got distracted and been reading your stuff. I read stuff.

99% of the world clicks first and asks questions later. NO I DIDN'T RESEARCH but come on - the old way was nothing more than peripheral clutter.

No, it wasn't. I guarantee you that the text often determined whether or not I clicked at all, and if this thread is any indication I'm not the only one.

the limited descriptions for movies and games are bullshit either way - i don't see how "MR. FART GOES TO THE MALL AND FARTS" or "CAN U DEFEND PLANET EARTH FROM THE ALIEN?" has any relevance.

...which is why it doesn't matter to you. To those of us who don't want to click "UNDRESS WADE AND WIN A FREE IPOD" but do want to click "UNDRESS TOM AND WIN A FREE WACOM TABLET" it matters plenty!

At 19 hours ago, PoopyMcButt wrote: I don't care for the background art, i'd prefer something basic tbh.
this is opinion, not something that needs to be addressed

You talk about how a lot of things are done to reduce visual clutter, but that BG image is nothing but noise. Isn't it fair to say you'd rather have the option not to have it?

it's funny how the people we kept the classic portal around for are the only ones bitching about it.

So wait you seriously considered getting rid of it?"

</incredulity></exasperation>

it's not in the main nav, no - but it's still up there TWICE, and you can access it just as fast as you could on the previous design (half a second slower when you consider the hover) BUT IT'S STILL ONE CLICK, SO THE ARGUMENT IS POINTLESS

No, it isn't.

Having two drop down menus with redundant links when you scroll to the bottom is not as good as one button lead you to everything you want to see. If anything, it should have been a content portal button with a "movies" and "games" sort function, which would have been way simpler to do anyway.

Or, here's a shocking idea, if one wanted to have a separate games and movies thing, why not just have the portal have separate columns for those things? You might have had to have the featured stuff at the top of the page instead of middle columns, but really all the better for getting exposure to good stuff, right?

either way lemme ask you - as a content creator, which one of the following do you feel would bring your production more traffic, from a general, global audience?

I think this promotes the false dichotomy that your way is necessarily one and my way is necessarily the other, and I don't agree.

that would just further confuse people and clutter the nav

I really think this way of doing things is more cluttered and more confusing, and in fact that's my main beef with it.

p.s. fuck josh bend, he drinks pee for breakfast

Josh Bedn borrowed my dildo and got poop all over it

That was my decorative carved mastodon ivory dildo Bedn you dog dick it was priceless now it's stained I hope your butthole rots off from some ancient mastodon leprosy or something fuck you

At 3 hours ago, Stamper wrote: so yeah, games shouldn't be thrown together with movies, in my opinion. i mean why stop there, throw all the art and audio in there as well, make shit even harder to find. I'D LOVE TO GO PLAY A GAME AND ACCIDENTLY PULL UP SOMEONE'S SHITTY SONIC THE HEDGEHOG DUBSTEP REMIX.

Stamper stop being stamper and then come tell me about your stuff being unnoticed or hard to find.

and you know - a lot of game makers get pissy when they're beat out by a porno cartoon on the same day.

Yeah better they get beat out by a porn game instead...?

Like I said, you could have them in different columns, you could have an award for "Featured movie" and "Featured game" but that doesn't mean that the additional clutter, navigational complication, and separating the groups like that makes more sense somehow.

And, speaking of switching pages, a separate page for submissions that are under judgment seems superfluous as well.Again, more clicking that could be avoided.
i am a little on the fence about how we handle this

Oooh ooh! I have an idea! Pick me pick meeeeeeeeee

So for starts, the top navigation bar. It's called mystery meat navigation, and it's a bad idea. Yes I know Google did it, but one of the things we all liked about Google was the simple hyperlink-based navigation. Google fucked up doing this, I'd urge you not to make the same mistake.
i don't understand the correlation between our nav and google's...honestly, elaborate

I'm talking about the nav thing at the VERY top next to your name, where it's tiny little symbols with no titles and you have to hover over each one to see what it does. I wasn't referring to the main nav menus, though having one-click visually apparent nav is better in my book than a bunch of menus you have to hover to see if it leads where you want to go.

Obviously on that second point comes the design debate of whether or not "more sectiony" is "more gooder", and you already know my position on that.

Man, regular or not...you cannot deny that the old site was a patchwork of broken features and crappy bullshit with duct tape slapped all over it. YOU CANNOT.

Hey I don't know from a coding perspective, my knowledge in that regard is negligible, but from a useability perspective a lot of it was quite intuitive, and in this redesign was made less so. Editing your profile, submitting content, seeing all the games and movies and collections...all of these things were visually apparent without having to hover over an ambiguous symbol or scroll through menus or click through multiple pages, and there was nothing wrong with that.

In fact, you talk about it all being that I'm just used to the other stuff...well remember, you've been working on this for a while, you're used to this. We're not, we're saying it's unintuitive because we're not finding it to be intuitive on our first impression. Maybe that's worth thinking about.

man fuck strawberry clock, that nagga can B my nuts

YOU WANT SOME OF THIS, MOTHAFUCKA?

This is awesome.

The movies and game split was a great idea.

The filtering is FUCKING AWESOME, makes it so easy to find what I'm looking for, or just a general list of things I might be interested in. Perfect.

Looks more modern too.

I love how my IE browser cuts off the comments by restricting them to their tiny boxes if they are too long and rant-like.

One glaring thing I noticed is that I can't change my icon/user picture at the moment. I don't know how long that'll last, but it is a minor inconvenience.

Good god the sounds on a submission's page if you don't have autoplay are annoying and almost earpiercing.

The old click-to-load one was simple and good. Warn't broke, don't fix it!

Also. Two pretty simple things one could add:

1. A "Respond To Topic" button on the bottom of the page.
2. A "Classic Portal" button, maybe with the account buttons on the top if you're not gonna put it on the header? The Portal is basically the RSS feed of submissions on this site and keeping it confusingly in 2 different menu boxes and less than a simple click away really gets to me.

Something has been bothering me. When I go about making my daliy votes, I can't tell how many votes I have left before the system says it's enough. Is it something I'm not seeing?

Pretty cool redesign.

When will we be able to receive EXP again? Is it just me or is the EXP system down at the moment? I have been grading movies and games but with no change to my EXP. Tried researching the problem but couldnt find an answer.

Anyways, keep up the great work!

I hate how I have to hover over submission to see the author and title. I can't even see the file size etc.

It shows a sign that a movie/game is under submission. Yes I know that! It says I can disable the sign in my user configuration but i can't find it anywhere.

When I vote it doesn't say how many points I've earned and how many more I need for the next level like it used to. It doesn't even show how much more voting power I get from my blam/saved rank.

Where is the learn flash section?

I don't like it :(

I just wanna throw in my 50 cents :)

First of, good overall job on the redesign, i must admit i was a big fan of the portal, but as stamper mentions, it's still there, and i guess i can get used to the new sorting as well...
BUT!
I have some "complaints" as well, naturally, seeing as I've been a member for 12 years i might be a bit nostalgic, making it hard to accept changes, but there are also some functions that i purely miss because I found them nice and helpful!

First of - I have to agree on the short descriptions on the front page, they definitely needs to come back!
We might live in an ADD world, which means that no one gives a fuck about gaming instructions, most people skip the cut-scenes in games and no one ever reads the authors comments, but the short description is actually one of the things that people DO read to get a hint about the game.. I kinda adds some personality to the piece.. For example, let's say I'm working on a game, and i might be a horrible artist, but my game-play and design makes up for it by being so well thought-out that everyone who doesn't try it will be missing out on a lifetime experience.. Without the description, no one is ever gonna click the ugly icon on the front page with the game title "beat that lvl!"
Same goes for movies with touching/incredible plots, but bad graphics - They simply don't get a chance..!

Next up - I'm missing the "more from this author" rollout-button. And no, it is NOT that same as just going to the authors page and looking though his profile, as that is a tedious job, like you say - ADD world! With this button you could easily find "Hugo the happy sailor 1" when you where on the view page for "Hugo the happy sailor 2" Also you could see what else this artist had contributed with, and all the movie&game titles where there to see (screw icons on this one!).. I miss that a lot!
I take it that this feature has been removed because of the fact that you don't want to mix everything together (like separating games & movies) so my idea would be to maybe split it up into categories, so the rollout button would look kinda like this:
default: More from this author
rollout:
---MOVIES---
My first flash movie
Whatever movie 1
Whatever movie 2
---GAMES---
Shoot retards
The killer rabbit
My pointNclick adventure
---ART---
Grey unicorn
Mai p3n|s
---AUDIO---
Kick that donkey
Long way to accapella
Rappin' crappin'

Well i think those two are the biggest/only problems with the new site.. I might find more as i browse along, but these two are, IMO a major setback :/

But, hey congratulations on an awesome redesign! Don't see this as a diss, but as constructive criticism please :)
And I'm glad to hear that it's making you guy's jobs easier :)

Hope to hear from ya', it's nice to know that you consider advice given from fans
(though I'm sure you must've thought about most of these things already) and I'm sorry, but i have to confess i didn't read though all 26 pages before posting :/ (only some of them)

Cheers - Hexy
