Author Comments

No one knows how Endsville, the city of Devils, was born. But as soon as it was created it prospered, slowly eating up the world. The player serves Cantido, god of black flame, and must hinder Endsville's growth by setting it afire.

Hide from the police, and torch the city to purge it of devils. But you mustn't burn everything. If the entire city burns down, you will have no place to stay. You will not be able to live. There can be no final victory. The only thing you can do is burn and burn.

Your only hope is Cantido's blessing, god of black flame.

About:

Fooly Cooly: Firestarter is a fan game based on Gainax's FLCL, the first season that aired on Adult Swim back in 2003. Game was designed with the original show's description which was somewhat short and incomplete, but even though we added new things to the game, we tried our best to keep it as close as possible to the original game in the anime.

New elements we included are: the concept that there is no final victory (as Mamimi's states in episode 2, season 1), making it about getting as high a score as you can. You can also receive Cantido's blessing once you reach high scores, which is not in the show. In the show, she talks about the possible game over scenarios which are the city grows too big, the city can't disappear entirely, and being caught by the police - that while not shown in the episode - we tried to incorporate it in the gameplay.

Thank you for the comments so far! The support of NG has been amazing, reason why we are hoping to revisit the build soon and include NG scoreboards if possible.

It was alright, nothing too much, although the premise of the game was great, I like to play unusual games, but there really isn't too much to say, except it's a well-made game.

SilverwareGames responds:

Thanks! We always try to make something different when we can. Its difficult to take a new kind of game concept and make it into something that works, but we always want to do more.

I like the anime art and the game overall looks decent but the music kinda sucks and the gameplay isn't as fun beyond the first few tries, the domino effect is cool but its nothing more than a green lightshow

SilverwareGames responds:

The goal was to make something you could play and burn your worries away so a green lightshow is not so bad imo. I love games like Tetris and Luminies which are all about getting a high score in a sort of zen way, though we'd love to do more with the premise at some point. Thanks for playing.

Great artwork, nice music, not my kinda game. I grew tired of it quick and wish i could of used my directional pad instead of my mouse.

SilverwareGames responds:

Thanks for playing. We would love to make a little plastic handheld with a diagonal D-PAD to move around, but I know nothing about how to make hardware!

Extremely basic and repetitive mechanics.
No real objective in this game.
Not fun.

SilverwareGames responds:

This was meant as a FLCL homage so we focused on the source material and tried to create a game like tetris that was addictive and about getting a high score. We understand it's not for everyone. Thanks for playing.

well this was fun, if rather difficult. I kept being surrounded by only small patches of buildings as the population was getting very high, and not being fast enough to counter it in time. Not helped by me being unable to really get the hang of the way it "snaps" to tiles rather than being a smooth transition.
The only thing I could say felt kind of unfair was when the building would connect far beyond what was on screen, a few times I went from 90+% all the way down to zero just clicking on one of those swathes of buildings.
This game was a nice reminder of FLCL and how much I enjoyed that show. (and I must admit I lost more than a few games trying to look for Takkun in case he was in that part of the game.)

SilverwareGames responds:

Thanks for playing! We might tweak it so there is a maximum burn size to prevent a giant burn like that. Takkun is not in the actual city per se...
