I can see why the Secret Service would come after people. I know people hate the president and all but if you hate him to such a level that you would threaten him I think it'd be best if people kept those comments to themselves. I my experience in places like school and work I've only heard a few people threaten the presidents life, which in my mind is just stupid. The people who hate bush can all rejoice in about a year when he's out of office. And honestly if i were to get called by the Sercret Service for a threat I'd be mad to. My whole point was that it's for the SS to decide what is and what is not a threat to their president. Looking at your string of posts you're just being idiots now for no reason other than to anger Wade.

I on the other hand was trying to point out that I resent the fact that the SS can go around bullying people. Sure investigate them, but you can't force people not to make GWB killing parodies or threads. He's killed enough people through his actions, he knows the level of anger he causes. So yeah, good luck to the S/S to pick out the psychos from the people who are just unhappy. But it's a sad day when they can be the movement against creative protest on an online website that itself started life with such content.

We don't know what kind of procedures they have, but apparently they do take alot of jokes and obvious stuff seriously. They can't risk anything and that's understandable. But like you say, it's up to them to decide what is a threat and what's not. Unfortunatley they probably won't just blink away things especially on forums. I would guess that they would care less of an animation, since it's usually more easy to decide if it's meant to be fiction or not.

The secret service / government is basically depending on the citizens to discern whether or not something is a joke and report it accordingly.

If something is reported as a true threat, it is investigated. This is not the fault of the secret service or George Bush. In these instances, the secret service is working at the behest of the people. It has been that way for decades.

So yes, people make harmless jokes about killing the president and get away with it, because nobody sees it as a threat they need to report. So if you want to get huffy with ANYONE, it'd be the person that finds it necessary to report said threats.
