PHP Update

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Newgrounds runs a LAMP architecture (Linux, Apache, MariaDB and PHP) and today we updated to the latest stable version of PHP. A lot of deprecated code was changed as part of this update, so let us know if anything appears broken!

This past month we’ve had moments of downtime due to software and hardware updates but overall uptime has been over 99%. If you’re ever curious to check NG’s status, bookmark this NG Status page.

Last week we upgraded our password hashing and in January we introduced email 2FA for everyone who wasn’t already using an app for 2FA.

We’ll be focused on bug fixes, code cleanup and quality of life improvements for the rest of Q1. It’s not glamorous but it’s important work to get done. I think it’s easy to forget just how much NG is doing under the hood; performing the tasks of a video site, gaming site, music site and art site all at once without collapsing under its own weight after a quarter century.

The NG code is just lots of text files, it's not created inside of a program that way something in Flash, Unity or Game Maker would be made.

This is probably the most concerning thing that happens to me on mobile using google Chrome (consistently) that never used to happen.

And I checked to see if chrome needed an update, too (it doesnt). Idk if this is from using android as well (latest version).

It looks like that movie credited the song in the commentary space but didn't add it via the cross-link credit. Does make me curious if there are actually four unpublished entries that used that song, though.
