This has been in the works for quite some time, and now I think it's an opportune time to officially announce the Newgrounds New York City Meet-Up 2010.

Who: NGers.

When: This will be a 2-day meet-up. The tentative dates for this meet so far are Saturday, March 13, 2010 and Sunday, March 14, 2010. If you're coming from way, way out of the New York Metropolitan Area and need a hotel room, then you are going to be responsible for booking it yourself. I really wish I could accommodate people at my place, but that is very, very unlikely, unfortunately.

Where: NYC, of course. I'm probably going to make the initial meetup site at Bryant Park, close to the entrance on the South East side of 42nd Street and 6th Avenue. There are a number of places I could take everyone to afterwards, and of course I'm not limited to these: Central Park, Chelsea Piers, South Street Seaport, the Brooklyn Heights Promenade, the Transit Museum, the Museum of Sex (18+ only), Coney Island (the NY Aquarium is there, but whether we go or not depends on everyone's budget), etc. A Staten Island Ferry ride would probably also be good, especially for people who don't live anywhere near NYC.

What: Although I'm not going to enforce any age restrictions for this meet, it would be nice if the majority of people who showed up to this are at least 18 years old. If you need a reason for that, here it is: as aforementioned, there is a possibility that I might take everyone to the Museum of Sex on 5th Avenue (current admission fee: $14.50 + tax), which has an adults only admission policy.

I've lived in NYC all my life, so I'm familiar with the overall geography of all 5 boroughs, mass transit, and numerous places of interest. The point of this thread for me is to get an idea of who's going, to answer any questions or address any concerns you have, and to brainstorm as many ideas as possible for potential meetup activities. As a native New Yorker, I have a lot in mind, but I also want to hear from everyone else here.

Also, I recommend bringing at least $50-$100 regardless of where you're coming from, mainly to cover food, transportation and other activity-related expenses (bowling, museum-dwelling...basically that kind of stuff).

Since it's currently November 2009 and the meetup isn't going to happen for another 4 months, it's important that you keep track of all of the latest posts in this thread. Also, if you don't have my cell number yet, PM me requesting it. Some of you probably already have my number, especially if I've already given it to you via Stickam, but if you don't have it, just ask me so I can keep in contact the day of the meet and make sure no one gets lost.

And one last, but VERY important note: if you're flying into NYC from another state or country, let me know when your departing flight is scheduled, when your expected arrival time is and which airport you will be landing at. You may not know immediately, but as soon as you find out, let me know. This will help me in deciding what time of the day is best to start the meet on the 13th.

All right, that's about all, so ask away and/or let me know if you're coming or not.

God fucking damn it...

I'll consider it but 4 months is a long time, too long for me to tell at this point. Though I only live 1.5-2 hours from city so I'm there often enough to return on a whim. Would blow if most people that came were under 21 though, I need to hit a bar with at least a few people :P

This is pure, assisted self-destruction

I am seriously considering going to this just to drink with you.

I'm only a 1-2 hour train ride from NYC (I think it's only 1-2, I haven't taken the train there in ages), so I might be able to do it, but at this point in time, I don't know if I'll be busy or not.

I am going just to go see the worlds oldest hooker under glass. Seriously, I am going because my sister just came back from NY & told me how awesome it was.

I'd like for more girls to come so we can share a room.

It's going to be more like 3 and 1/2 hours or so. Also, I don't usually take the Amtrak to Albany anymore. I prefer Megabus since it's a lot cheaper.

Amtrak.com says it should take 2 1/2 - 3 hours, but that's without the inevitable delay, so I guess 3 1/2 hours sounds right.

I'll think about coming - I would probably not choose to spend the night though. Hotels in NYC are quite expensive.

Well, as a fellow New Yorker, I'd be interested. But I usually work Saturdays. Still, I can be there on Sunday. Would be fun to hang out and put a few faces to the names.

I wish my studies allowed for this. Sadly, not only am I underage, but I do not have the necessary funding, as well as the time.

Have fun in the city guys. You sure will enjoy it.

I'd like to keep it in mind, there are a bunch of things I still need to do though.

But as for event related, I've never had the chance to go to central park, but I can't imagine there being much to do there especially since it's probably going to be cold out too.

I hate people who spell Lynard Skynard wrong.

You may be under the recommended age, but I believe I did say in my first post that there's no age restriction. In any case, I understand your decision completely.

That can certainly be arranged. I have no problem taking everyone to Central Park since I grew up only 2 blocks away from there and used to ride my bike there frequently, mostly inside Heckscher Playground. I'll try to keep everyone posted on the temperature when we get closer to the meet-up date, so that everyone is adequately prepared weather-wise.

Jamoke can't New Yuk Sitay.

ANYWAY.

As I briefly said over Twitter, I have a close friend who works in the airline industry, and he gets his close friends these tickets that are called "Buddy Passes".

Basically flying stand by, but tickets are only about $30-$60 round trip.

So if I can convince my parents to let my fly to New York with a bunch of strangers for a weekend, I'd be good to go.

My birthday weekend to be exact, got some leverage there.
