Reviews for "Relic"

Alright, so I booted up the game, as I don't care much for story in almost any game (I want to get familiar with my character through playing) I just skimmed through it. So I guess story wise it's alright.

Then I came into the game, smooth controls and graphics, really smooth, until I engaged in combat. A loud sound was played (I shat) and I was pulled into some random fight with goblins. I had 5 random characters, I had almost no background on anyone except some girl who got robbed of.. a relic I think? And there were 2 mercenaries.

I couldn't name a character, it just got so impersonal so I closed the game. Pro tip is to let people name their characters or at least let them get to know one character before giving them control over multiple.

Now, don't let my review get you down. It looked really cool and I bet there's alot of people who will enjoy the game.

Hyptosis responds:

Dude, the 5 'random' characters are introduced in the story you skipped. Thanks for the 'pro tip' though. Always valuable coming from someone who looks to have never made a game or anything even remotely similar. Don't let my reply get you down.

An ok time waster but I have some issues.

First of all, there wasn't any place where you can recover health and mana. All RPGs have one. An inn, a save point where you can heal.. things like that. Without it I had no choice but to buy potions. I have NO idea how many potions I've bought and used for the game.

Next, the skills you put into the game were great. I loved the care put into the graphic of skill usage. Some games would just have the character perform the basic attack and add a little something extra. This one, however, had a different action altogether. My issue with the skills, though, is that they were so weak! The basic attacks of each character were WAY more powerful than the skills. There were even times that when I was facing 3 enemies and use a skill that targets all. But the TOTAL damage was STILL weaker than a basic attack to 1 enemy. So.. think on that a bit?

Lastly, there should be a back button. When selecting attack or when selecting a skill.. there HAS to be a back button. Common sense.

All that being said.. I still think that this game was pretty ok. The story wasn't great, but it wasn't bad either. I think that if you came out with a part2 of this game and fixed all these issues I would definitely love the game. Put a little more substance into the story and I'd probably even buy it. So.. good luck to you and I look forward to seeing another one.

an ok time burner but seriously need a Quality change control, i have an older PC since i am working a low end job and have yet to make enough to buy another, having a L/M/H/Best quality option is nice in any RPG and im sure many could agree that out of battle the game runs nicely but in battle it's slow and takes too long

Hyptosis responds:

Thanks for the suggestion.

The Good: Your graphics are rather nice and the game is entertaining.

The Bad: The game has a clunky interface and it was pretty hard to figure out how to access the main menu at first. It was also a bit unclear in the beginning on how to save. In addition to that, the battles are far too numerous and tedious. There is no option to run from battles and personally, I feel that the "battle end" screen stays on there for a bit too long. Maybe make it an instant transition from battle? The spells also need re-balancing. As they are, they are vastly underpowered. I dealt a lot more damage from just clicking the attack button.

Personal Gripe: The mouse click/enter key usage seems a bit unintuitive to me. Maybe add in an option to use the space bar? And switch the sound toggle to another key please, it's kinda annoying to accidentally toggle the sound on and off.

Overall: It seems like a pretty solid but generic rpg. Nothing groundbreaking but entertaining.

It's a good first game, but there's quite a few problems. The game's start is quite confusing, and you're essentially thrown into battle before figuring out how to learn the differences between the 5 characters and their various skills. The "opponent attacks whenever" rule also discourages the player getting immersed in the game with so many actions happening and no time to think. The game also isn't letting me save and isn't telling me why, despite having cookies enabled and being connected to the internet.

HOWEVER, once you look past those aspects, the game seems to get better. But I don't know, though - the game won't let me save, so I have no motivation to continue past level 2.
