Reviews for "Fred the Notable Monkey"

i have no clue what's it talking about, lol

I didn't really understand what's it talking about thie wiki something .com. the graphics and animation looks good and the voices were good, but haha, it looks like a sissy video for kids, lol. teletubies gives me night mares, lol.

JKR responds:

Sissy video for kids? I don't get it. Oh well! Thanks for taking the time to leave a review! Glad you liked the graphics and animation.

Not so notable at all

IMO a very selfish message.

Wikipedia is a free, open encyclopedia and has the aim of collecting scientific knowledge about the respective topics. There are still a whole lot of entries on Wikipedia, which are - no offense - obsolete.

Apart from that, I found your submission quite cute and well drawn. I don't think it was especially funny, entertaining or original though. At least not funny, entertaining or original enough to mention your work in an encyclopedia. Don't get me wrong, your work isn't bad. But I find your request of including aspiring artists into Wikipedia. That would be like giving 2nd or 3rd Division soccer players their own Wiki-entry.

Regards
~Wasty

JKR responds:

Frankly, I find that if a site is as large as Wikipedia is, they can find room for people who work every single day of their life at nothing more than making people happy through artwork. But perhaps they are "above" such things. I find no issue in giving 2nd or 3rd Division soccer players their own entry. The internet is certain big enough, and these people work just as hard as the 1st string, even if they don't get as much field time. But more than any of that, it is the WAY Wikipedia informs people that they are not permitted to be mentioned, with brash words like "non-notable - delete" or "fails". I do not agree with this method of dealing with people.

Anyway, thank you for taking the time to leave a review. I'm glad you liked the art style of the cartoon and animation, even if you didn't agree with it. =)

I see..

Well I watched the flash, cute. It ran somooth and all. It was funnier than stabbing myself with a boxcutter, but not as funny as watching someone else do it. Overall it was ok. I agree with both sides on the issue. As it is Wikipedia is filled with alot of misinformative crap, sad but true it is, if anyone and everyones definitions for things were added it would be nothing more than a bunch of random crap.. There are websites that do that very thing, everyones definition is added and kept. It is hillarious to read, but of little real value. On the same token however, if they are going to alow independant parties to suggest modifications, new words and or deffinitions to their database they should at the very least give each thing a go, and certainly if enough people write in on a certain subject and give simmilar information it should be added. Otherwise it rather defeats the purpose of an expanding knowledgebase website.

I understand why you were inclined to add this message to a toon. Though I must say it is not particularly to my taste. As the message itself is of little import to myself. The toon was cute though.. Keep up the good work..

JKR responds:

Thanks for the review! I understand what you mean, and though I'm sorry you don't agree with the message, I hope you'll enjoy the next Fred cartoon more. =)

meh

Nice graphics, good sound, Freds voice annoys the shit out of me, but there's some good lines in there none the less.

As for the aim of the peice....while people who have heard of Fred before might feel a tug at the heart string...I still don't care.

I maybe should care, but then there's alot of things we should all maybe do.... like stop the sale of old people to dog food factories....

JKR responds:

They sell old people to DOG FOOD factories?!? Wow. I better make a cartoon against that! =)
Anyway, I'm not too concerned with Fred the Monkey being in Wikipedia (in fact I don't care either) but I just hope the people who decide what gets deleted and what stays will have a little more compassion in telling people they need to keep working at what they do in order to have an entry. To tell someone "you fail - delete" just doesn't seem right to me. Many people would give up because of such words.
Anyway, thank you for taking the time to leave a review. Sorry Fred's voice bugs you, and I hope you like the next Fred cartoon more.

For the record, I'm an inclusionist.

Nice graphics.

Interesting point raised.

Okay lip synching.

The joke with the NDS amused me.

The characters seem interesting, with personalities.

Really a site? That's interesting...

---
---------

Is it your own site? That seems a bit egotistic to me...

No. Wikipedia isn't the reason why 90% of artists give up their dreams.

I wanted to check the info. I couldn't easily find out if the platypus character did in fact have his own page. I still wonder. If so, that'd be interesting...

Fred's face could be more expressive.

Fred's voice seemed slightly whiny. I don't like him as a character.

Nice flash. I'm an 'inclusionist' personally (learnt that word from the review down below), but don't really think it's a big deal. I mean it's just a site.

Flash entertained, but I'd like links to the Platypus thing if it exists. Also, the link to the Fred the Monkey part of Wikipedia should be labelled as such.

JKR responds:

The Clydex the Platypus entry did indeed exist (not made by me I can tell you that) for quite a good bit of time. They recently deleted it due to being angry about this cartoon and the opinions I was sharing. Ah well, tis apart of life. I don't expect them to feature things that speak poorly of them.
Anyway, thanks for the detailed review. Sorry you don't like Fred much, but glad you got some enjoyment out of it anyway. I'll keep working on the characters and make them better. For the record, I did not mean Wikipedia was the reason 90% of artists give up, but that rejection in the form Wikipedia is USING is what causes them to leave behind their dreams. It happens everyday sadly.
