Reviews for "Fred the Notable Monkey"

The message detracts from your talent

You might concentrate more on becoming noteworthy first for your obvious talent and artistic capability. You may learn in the process how to fit in a quick "dis" into an interesting but non related story line. Watch this yourself without the sound or the script, as I did.

JKR responds:

Well in my mind Fred is noteworthy already, and I guess that's what's most important. I just feel Wikipedia needs to do a bit more research into topics before just saying "You're worthless" and kicking people off their site.
Anyway, I'll give watching it without sound a shot. Thanks for the idea.
And thanks for leaving a review.

One-Thumbs Up!

Graphics - I hate you. You make great graphics. I wish i was that good!
Style - You've got the style, dawg! I hate Randy Jackson...
Sound - Your monkey voice acting irritates me. It's hard to listen!
Violence - WTF? Violence? Yes, political violence against wikipedia!
Interactivity - Good bringing up subtitle options. Two-Thumbs Up!
Humor - Barely laughed because of the voice acting...
Well, however i like cheese...and voted 5...

JKR responds:

Well cheese DOES rock pretty hard. So thanks for the 5. =)
Sorry Fred's voice bugs you. It bugs Sceb too, which is probably why he hates Fred so much. Anyway, thanks for taking the time to leave a review!

It is pretty funny

But I think you are behaving childishly and stupid. How can you not get that wikipedia isn't a showcase for "works by aspiring artists" but it is (trying to be) an encyclopedia with entries on stuff worth mentioning! Yes, loads of articles ARE deleted every day and even if I think this cartoon is pretty funny I do simply not think it's big enough to have a Wikipedia entry. The best example to this is probably the fact that you, the creator, is so desperate to have one that you'll actually make a (admittedly pretty funny) movie to try and force wikipedia to keep your article! And why do you want it so bad? Because it is a recognition? Well, if you're forcing people to recognize you what's the point of it?
Wikipedia is not about stuff that "brings a bit of happiness to thousands of people worldwide". Did you not know that Wikipedia is run on no-profit principles, completely ad-free and the only money they have to use for bandwith etc is what users donate to the organization? If every Tom, Dick and Harry wants to have their own entry in Wikipedia because they think their worth it, do you understand what an incredible increase in cost it would be? There must be rules on what can be included, and sometimes you might find them unnecesarily though (not in this case though) but generally it's for the best of Wikipedia! Wikipedia is a wonderful experiment bringing information and power to people who previously had no way of accessing it. I think Wikipedia will truly have an impact on modern history. Please don't fuck around with it just because you feel important. But keep on making good funny animations and maybe one day Fred the Monkey will actually be big enough to warrant an entry. But it's going to take you more than just some egoistical flash campaigning...

JKR responds:

Okay, well first of all, I really couldn't care less if Fred the Monkey is in Wikipedia. I don't really give a crap if anything I do makes it in. As long as the cartoons I do are making people happy, that is A-OK with me.

What I DO have a problem with is the way Wikipedia folks are going about deleting things. You don't tell someone they are "non-notable" just because YOU don't think they are. Sorry, but that doesn't sit well with me. That IS the reason most people give up their dreams. And it just isn't right.

They have no authority to judge people's works themselves without doing any research first. Half of the people who decide whether something is deleted or not are simply saying "Fail" or some other harsh meaningless word, and how would that affect you if you were just starting out? Perhaps it wouldn't but I can tell you with certainty that many people WOULD be devestated by such heartless idiocy.

If Wikipedia is non-profit and ad-free (much like FredtheMonkey.com is) then good for them, but I'll cry no tears if they run out of bandwidth because they have too many entries and are TOO popular. Boo hoo, they get lots of people who use their site? What kind of sense does that make? Sorry, doesn't work for me.

Anyway, I'm glad you liked the cartoon, and sorry we can't agree on this subject. Thanks you very much for taking the time to voice your opinions about Wikipedia to me, because it has been very helpful information, even if I still don't agree. =)

Its good, but your point is stupid

Wikipedia is a website for definitions, but of course, this costs money, especially because of all the definitions and pics they have, you can even see that need to take donations to keep their site up. But then you claim they "take your page down for no reason" when it’s rather obvious: "it’s not getting any hits" (How often do you think anyone really searches for Fred the monkey on wikipedia?) and the information can all probably be obtained from your site, it’s not needed. And then you seem to say that wikipedia just says you suck because of the lack of reason, your only up for deletion (And I think now it’s deleted, and you platypus is up for deletion now) if people really want your article back, they'll request it, and the only reason people are going to request it is because of this flash, riding your popularity in order to get back into wikipedia. And finally you act as though wikipedia is a site used for the discovery of artists, which if you need to be reminded, it’s an encyclopaedia, not deviantart.

But as for the flash its self, it was okay, nothing too special though, decent graphics and okay sound (Don't like the monkey's voice though)

JKR responds:

Yes, many people don't like Fred's voice. But that is the one he was born with, so he can't really help it. =)

Anyway, I think you missed my point in the cartoon a little. I was not whining about how my entry was deleted. In fact, I do not care in the slightest that it was. That is up to Wikip edia and its members.
What I have a problem with is the blatent disregard for the person behind the entry and how they are treated. I got several comments such as "You fail!" or "Not worth the time of day" and that is what makes me angry. I did not put Fred up on Wikipedia, someone else did. So I did not ask for them to judge my life's work. And while I can certainly take these comments, too many young artists would potentially give up because of such harsh words they never asked for. It would take very little time more to offer encouragement for something that is not quite at Wikipedia level yet, and that would be much more helpful to the person being deleted than "delete-nn" and nothing more. So I merely request they remember there is another human being who is on the other end of the entry, and they might feel devastated not by Wiki's decision to keep them or not, but by how they are spoken about during the deletion process. That's all.

Thanks for the review, and sorry you only thought the cartoon was okay. I'll try harder next time around, and hope you like that one more.

If you only you didn't have an agenda...

Get over it, alright? Wikipedia does what it does so that millions of people don't add stupid entries, like aNiMeAnGeLbAbE5403, just because they traced a MegaMan picture and figured out how to scan it.

I suppose there are people who want to grab a little slice of attention. Maybe a few of them really deserve it. But if Wikipedia lets some in, they'll have to let them ALL in. Do you see my point? I'm sure you do. I'm sure you've thought about it plenty of times, too.

Perhaps it was wrong of Wikipedia to take down your entry. Maybe it was a total jerk thing to do. YOU are probably one of those people who deserve some attention. But don't pretend you're fighting for some huge cause. You and I both know that's bull. In fact, most people have to come to grips with not having their entries in Wikipedia. Don't think that you're the first to have their feelings hurt. The only difference you have with the others is that you know how to animate your frustration.

That being said, I really did enjoy your flash. Style was all you, man. It was funny, great job. But like I said before... if you only you didn't have an agenda.

JKR responds:

Well I won't say that somewhere deep down I wasn't hurt that they took down the Fred the Monkey entry. I'm sure I was, at least at first. To have three years of my life and the happiness the cartoons have brought to thousands of people be deemed "non-notable" is certainly not something I'd PREFER to have happen.
That said, I quickly came to terms with this rejection, and I can honestly say I don't care a single atom of a bit if Fred is or is not in Wikipedia. What I DO honestly care about is the people that will NOT be able to come to terms with the heartless things the members of that site will say to them, after doing little to no research about what they are deleting. And that is the truth.

Also I think I should note that Wikipedia has ALREADY let "some in" because they have many entries for things like Salad Fingers, Retarded Animal Babies, and others. I'm not saying those people don't deserve to be there, but merely pointing out that they are past the point of not letting "some in" and it seems they still refuse to let "all in".

I'm glad you enjoyed the cartoon, and sorry part of it was ruined do to the message I tried to include. Hopefully you can forgive me for that. Thank you very much for taking the time to write such a understandable and well thought out review.
