Hey guys!
I'm in desperate need of a British sounding narrator, preferably from the north but not necessary,
I need this poem recited:
"O, how I wish my heart were cast of lead,
and my soul deprived of love,
so that I could live a life of reason,
and not one in which I am a prisoner of passion.
You see,
My greatest qualities are invisible,
and my most valuable assets, intangible.
Aesthetics have become my trade,
and so the Spartans will deny me the blade, while they go die in the shade.
The mighty called me an Old Greek and a young Queer, and have
likened me to the artisans of Athens, and banished me to the castles of Caen,
though I do not weep, yet instead I smirk,
for Old Man Time will soon descend, and of their might they surely will be stripped.
In one century, my sounds were fit for the peasants,
and in another, the aristocrats and the Kings.
and in another, again the peasants and now the Romantics.
and now, fit only for the deaf.
The sculptures of Olympia, the paintings of the Hudson River School,
the shapes of Giza, and the pillars of Monticello;
I have created these wonders, and with great pride too,
yet I've only enough wealth to buy me an old vest, preferably blue.
My fruits I know you've seen before, from pole to pole, I'm sure.
And still my name you will not recognize, for the mighty have purposely made it obscure.
My hand have become frail, and my body weak, and though
time has passed, and the many institutions of men have failed,
you will notice my music is still being played, and at my plays, many still will wail;
Time is clearly the mightiest judge of the tangible, and yet is weakened by the concept.
So,
Let it be known, that though I bear a curse,
which so many wrongfully deem a gift, and have mistaken it for brilliance, which even worse,
I will smile with fortune and humility at my Bed,
for only in name, will I really be dead.
I am the artist, the true immortal,
for my ideas cannot decay, but only strengthen instead.
The Artist-"
It only sounds good in a deep British accent, which I don't have :(
It will be used for an in class presentation for poetry, this one was mine,
If you have any questions, please PM or drop a post,
any help is appreciated!
Thanks
