UPDATE 25/01/2023

Still not any closer to doing the remake as I've two games to get through. *sigh* One is called 'Famished' then I've also got to finish 'Feast of the Maggotoid' (link below). They're coming along very well, and you can get a preview of the work in progress on the Discord.

Oh btw, here's how to reach me these days via Discord. https://discord.gg/JhhzHUr9AD

Come along, chat about The Insanity or the latest projects, or game dev. I'm always around.

Yes I'm working my British butt-cheeks off to get a demo out for Famished within the next month or so but lordy lordy is it slow going, see the difference with full 3d vs 2d is the workload. Rather than doing 2 hrs in adobe to do a location I'm having to fixture a bunch of 3d models, some of which I'm having to make, texture, uv map. god, it takes forever. You can't get much done without a team of at least 3-4 peeps but unfortunately people do tend to be fickle, or rather their motivation dries up, and before you know it I'm back to doing it all by my onesies again. Sadly it's never been harder to make indie games solo, and it seems like 99% of the peeps out there can't. It's a strange contrast because the entry level is low, and there are a ton of tutorials and assets out there that can fool people into thinking it's all a piece of cake-- then they start scaling their games and realizing they don't know anything about OOP paradigms such as inheritance, state machines, ECS architecture and the like, and they abandon ship.

The good news? ChatGPT is insanely (get the pun hehe?) handy for all of this. It has shot down my coding time by at least half, and not only that but can also come in handy just for general dialogue and prose for the story-writing. So, yeah yeah, promises promises...watch this space.

UPDATE - 22/07/2019

Hey so, I'm mucking around in game dev again, hoping to revamp the first & second Insanity games and finally do a brand new third one. They won't be in Flash this time, but rather Unity, and they'll not be point&click but 3d adventures.

Check out the blog if you're interested.

after playing this sequel to the first game this was over all a good sequel.

the gameplay has been simplified so it's not as confusing compared to the first game,

the writing is still weak but not as bad as the first game ( i'm not even going to talk about the

main protagonist)

the aesthetic and environment design is still gripping as the first game.

overall this was good improvement over the insanity 1, it has the potential to be a very good

horror game with more improvement's over time.

feels more like a prequel, but definitely better than the 1st

I played this game years ago, and it has been long over-due for a review from me since I posted a review for the first game calling it good, but yet amateurish.

EvilKris took the concept and art of the first game and dialed it to eleven for this one. The art is absolutely amazing, and yet grittier than if you took a rusty angle-grinder to the abandoned set of a SAW movie and went ham on it.

The story was extremely captivating; I was wanting to know more and more about this Dr. Friendly, and about the sick, twisted experiments he did on unsuspecting people.

The designs of the creatures have been etched into memory; I haven't seen anything as memorable and as horrifying as the Necromorphs from Dead Space (which I found out EvilKris drew inspiration from, but yet kept it fresh and original). The part where Peter was hiding from that wolf-hybrid creature behind the curtain and left a little too early still scares me to this day.

Also, the gameplay is much better in this one; it plays more smoothly and isn't as difficult if you are in it for the story and design.

All in all, this is one of the best flash point-and-click games I've ever had the pleasure of playing. And to find out that EvilKris is not only planning on remaking the games, but has ideas for a third is quite exciting. Seriously, I would pay full price for a completed "The Insanity" trilogy (or even one game at a time).

The fact that a movie (or series) on par with Se7en, Aliens, or the Thing hasn't been made based off of this game is absolutely criminal. It's also disheartening the fact that EvilKris isn't a more well-known artist.

EvilKris, if you are reading this, I wish you the best of luck in your endeavors.

EvilKris responds:

thanks! I do pop in from time to time to read the comments.
Encouragement helps, some people don't think of it as anything but prose on a digital page, but it definitely stokes the fires. much appreciated.
well, you picked a good time to wonder what ol' EvilKris is up too. I did have a long break from games but for the last couple of years I've been diving right back in, and have two new (horror) titles almost ready to go live. I've formed a team with another talented dev, and plan to release an anthology of horror games under that banner of 'SlaughterWare', some of which will undoubtedly be the 'Insanity' remakes.
We're right at the zenith of our production capabilities, going kamikaze gung-ho, and I eta the first game demo should be out by about this time next month.

if you're interested. Some of the other games have intriguing stories too, not quite magnum opus lvl of the Insanity but still...there's a Steven King-esque quality to them I personally like.

The discord is a little dead but we (the team) are on there all the time, discussing progress on the hidden channels. That's also where I'm most active, anyway. Ciao!

who knows if we'll see a third game,
much like the first game where it browned all over the premise or mystique with the "you were edgar frinedly all along!", and with the game being a prequel it was apparent that Peter wouldn't survive, kind of a shame but either way i still loved the old school looks of point and click games

EvilKris, this game is incredible and classic, whenever I play I feel a great tension, even knowing what I have to do, for me every time I play it is new ... you knew how to explore the horror genre very well! congratulations, 5 stars
