It's not up to you to decide if your band is good or not.... and proclaiming yourself "the best metal band" is just stupid. How do you know anyway? And if they really were the best metal band, they wouldn't need to say it by themselves. The world would just know.

I really need to ask you a question Ponos, how can you determine which band is the best metal band in the world?

Anyway... let's keep it simple. He can be proud without being a pretentious cunt. He can trust in his skills without seing himself as a Metal God and he could try... sometimes between a gig and a party, to learn how to deal with critics. Saying "Fuck them!", "Fuck you!" and "Fuck Fuck Fuck!" is not what I call a good argument. I know your going to say he was drunk and that black metal doesn't care about all this shit. But I really think BM needs to grow up from that "Fuck it all" behavior.

You're taking what he said when he was drunk far too seriously. And even if he wasn't drunk and he said that, brazen self confidence can be just as likable as a personality trait as modesty. Many people have outright told me they greatly admire that aspect of my personality.

I think it was Clown. He said Slipknot was the heaviest band ever.

I think you guys are taking it too seriously. They sure know they're not the heaviest band ever, when they say that, they don't really mean it... They suck a lot, but they're not that kind of idiots.

I agree with this. A band shouldn't claim they're the best in the world. It only makes them look arrogant. To me, there is no best band. It all goes down to what you like the most.

Some more bands that you guys might not have heard of, this time with a doom focus.

"Ufomammut - Smoke" Psychedelic Stoner Doom, great music to get stoned to.

"Black Cobra - Sugar Water" Crushingly heavy Sludge/Doom 2 piece, soundtrack to the apocalypse.

"Rose Kemp - The Unholy" Fantastic music, Imogen Heap gone metal.

They're kind of popular now... I saw them over a month ago at Rock N' Shock festival opening for Suffocation and a ton of shittie core bands like suicide silence.

They were the only nonheadling band people were chanting for.

And i've known of them for over a year now - they're certainly getting kind of popular.

Hurray, three totally overrated, shittie bands that'll attract thousands and thousands of posers from all around. :D

For the record, Ensiferum's first two albums are at least good. But after that and everything COB and AA have released are jokes.

My cousin is really into Abrahadabra. Says the whole symphonic aspect is highly enjoyable.

I've never liked Dimmu Borgir, but from what a friend of mine who is totally a fanboy HE dislikes their new album so chances are if I don't like their old stuff i'll hate their new stuff.

Although I still wish I went to see them earlier this month because enslaved were opening, oh well.

COB obviously, Amon Amarth fans tend to think AA are the most brutal, intense shit ever even if it's not and Ensiferum fans are all like "WE'RE FOLK METAL FANS NOW EVEN THOUGH WE ONLY LIKE ONE BARELY FOLK METAL BAND"

Yes, all, completely, the, same.

All those songs sound relatively the same to me, with the exception of Cry Of The Black Birds.

But the point is, all their riffs are almost indistinguishable - they're famous just for being a theme band(Vikings) like how Alestorm has become really popular for being Pirates and not for being quality power metal.

They're talented, the problem I have is they're WAY too popular for what they are. And their fans suck dick. Also, when I was at the New England Metal And Hardcore Festival back in april it took them 40 fucking minutes to go on.

Amon Amarth were good until they started buying into all of the mainstream recording techniques and the like. Like the twilight of the thunder god solo that little guitar twiddle before the solo begins, well not just that the entire solo in general, sounds like some poor dragonforce knock-off. It really took me by suprise.

Tyr on the other hand has been producing some quality work I feel. Sinklars visa was pretty good as well as a few off of their new album.

Viking metal in its truest form is actually pretty hard to find. I mean yeah you have the black metal that claims to be viking metal then your mello-death that claims to be viking but tyr (other than amon amarth's mythology themes) seems to be the only real viking metal lyrically that I can find.

There's a difference in blindly following viking gods and just accepting all of the myths as true and actually embracing the idealogy of it. Even so my old school days of blindly protesting for vikingism is over, there has to be a substance to it somewhere.

It's not like that here, the music scene in Norwich is primarily all about crappy generic pop punk/screamo/metalcore and hardcore bands, but when a proper metal band comes along and people start hardcore dancing in the pit, I die a little inside :|

All those songs sound relatively the same to me, with the exception of Cry Of The Black Birds.

I guess that's down to personal opinion, I wouldn't have actually bothered to link to any songs if I genuinely thought they sounded the same.

like how Alestorm has become really popular for being Pirates and not for being quality power metal.

Alestorm aren't that good anyway.

I noticed you seem more fixated on the fans of these bands than the actual music, I understand that maybe where you live everyone might be a faggot scenekid trend-hopper, but luckily where I live there is a good metal scene going on. It's awesome to see people wearing Anvil and Suicidal Tendancies shirts and the jean jackets with patches of Municipal Waste and Black Sabbath on :)

Response to Metal Hell 2010-11-15 20:43:11

Municipal Waste is exactly that.

Every time I listen to them I feel like I should be in "Airheads" or "Biodome". Its almost comical.

Really, sadistic magician? I mean when you listen to the lyrics of that song its like watching a bad episode of law and order.

But of course there is always a chance that I have just not listened to one of their good songs. Ive never really sought them out to give them a chance.
