Short previews should be ok, right?
Literaly every song releases some kind of demo track.

I meant it to be more like advertising.
Like posting a demo on facebook and giving link to the store, or something...

I think it would be absolutely idiotic to NOT give demos, or hell, even the whole songs on soundcloud or a bandcamp. The listeners deserve to know the type of music they're getting before they buy it. They're NOT just going to buy an 8 dollar album without knowing ANYTHING about the music on said album. And also, who cares if they "record it." In most cases, that's going a little out of one's way to get the song. And besides, it's not like we're getting any of this money. We knew that when we made these songs, so I don't think it should matter to us much whether or not any revenue is made, even if the money is going to charity, because I believe that most of the possible charities that would be picked wouldn't really be affected by losing this money. To top this all off, I feel like giving previews would help sell this album exponentially greater than no previews would.

This is an extremely good point. Since this is non-profit, then why should we be so concerned that people will steal the music? Keep in mind that NG's AP is licensed under Creative Commons to begin with - which probably means that everyone involved is already ok with the idea of sharing music for "payment" in forms other than money.

well since we're on the subject of charitable programs there's quite a lot. I don't know if you guys want to stick to the united states or what ever else but this site has compiled list of all charitable programs in the US and I personally like the Victory Junction gang-NC as program.

Right off, I don't think that it should be a charity that's local to anywhere in particular - i.e. it would be more appropriate to choose a charity that focuses on international work, since the participants of this project are from all over the place. Personally, I'm from Canada, and there are a lot of good international charities I hear about all the time simply because they're based in Canada. Some good examples would be:

UNICEF
OXFAM
Amnesty
Borderless World Volunteers
Feed The Children
CANFAR
Street Kids

I'm not saying we should just choose from Canadian-based charities, just that the charities we choose should be aimed at making a difference on a more global scale, like in the examples I gave above.

Also, it would be a good idea to consider donating to multiple charities, rather than just one. Although I assume this has already occurred to many of you.

Would it be okay to sell the song we entered ourselves? I'm working up to releasing another digital album and this would make a great addition. I don't see much of a problem, since they would have to pay either way, but I just wanted to check.

btw... thanks for making this collab, FKWAJP. It turned out really successfully I think... some great stuff in there. :)

It has been stated in the past multiple times that we will be releasing a demo NG track that includes samples of each track, much like what they did here:

We already covered that haha. I will be putting mixing together a demo once the winners are announced :)

Pretty much, the only thing that needs to be finalized is charity work! I am sure we can all come to an agreement, but personally I believe we should focus on something that's a bit more specific so we can have a much larger effect on a more key focused area. I'm thinking of donating our funds to a rice charity in Africa to help feed the poor, or perhaps the Heifer project to help teach the poor how to feed themselves.

Well, you still are TECHNICALLY LISCENED UNDER THE CC WITH YOUR TRACKS... in other words you have every right to the track! We all ask you, as a team, to not submit your track elsewhere unless you really, really need to. If you need to put it into your album, that's perfectly understandable and shouldn't be a problem :)

ALRIGHT GUYS! THE CONTEST IS OVER! Now I am gathering a small group of audio heads to judge the submitted tracks. I haven't actually deleted all the WIPs in the thread yet, because I'm lazy, so don't get your panties in a bunch ;)

Now that we have everything tied together in a neat little bow, it is time to play the waiting game! While we are playing the waiting game to see who the winners are, how about we discuss charity... We have came up with many ideas in the past, mostly revolving around Japanese relief and the Heifer project. I would personally suggest donating money to a specific, small group of people since we won't be necessarily making a whole lot of money *under $1000 perhaps*. $1000, however, is plenty to help support a small village with chickens and cows. Believe it or not, but a few cows and chickens are considered a blessing for a village. They can help provide milk and eggs, which is a major source of nutrition. So go ahead guys, throw your ideas out there! If you said something in the previous page, retention them here for clarification and organized discussion purposes.

Aside from charity, everything else is done! Our original goal of 30 per album has been narrowed down to 15 per album, since we didn't get as many entries as planned, but that's perfectly fine! We will simply have one disc albums instead of two disc albums, which is the general album size anyway. I need to discuss prices with Tom, but we have discussed and $8 for a physical copy seems perfectly reasonable and agreeable. We will also setup a Bandcamp where people can download electronic copies for $5. *that's 50 cents for a song*. We will be selling the original albums as planned.

- Heartwarming, serious themed pack based around the orchestral, folk, jazz, solos, and classical genres.

- Upbeat, dance/grindcore themed pack based around Dubstep, Drum N Bass, progressive, and trance.

- Hardcore, brutal themed pack based around metal, rock, face melters, and others.

- Chill, visual themed pack based around ambient, pop, drone, 8-bit, and experimental/glitch.

Each album will have 10 songs. That means that there will be 40 winners chosen. The album artwork will be designed by the art portal and Tom should be making a front page post about this mini art contest shortly. I will be putting together the albums myself and shipping them off to NG. I have lots of materials and access to a wonderful printing company.

Girls, I am REALLY proud of you all. Each and every single one of you sexy seals have really made me jelly! :3

This store item.

Will be.

The best fucking store item...

EVER

Alright guys, the discussion parrot will now judge the discussion and rest of this thread..........

Oh, and there seems to be some confusion about how we will "sample" people our albums. I will basically be putting together a series of "sample" tracks and uploading them to NG once the winners are announced. Tom should post them in a front page news post :)

They will be organized much like this similar massive collaboration was:

Hope that clears things up.

Just select a random central African country. No, seriously talking, I've heard there's a heavy famine in Burundi and Eritrea. If we manage to contact a relatively safe charity NGO, then that's where I think the money should go. Those countries always live in "emergency" status for either poverty or war, or both. What do you think?

Oh shit, if the samples will be akin to the example given some of us are going to have to clarify pronunciation of our pseudonyms.

I'd have to give clarification myself... My username isn't one that can be pronounced readily unless you're French (or speak French).

I'll be perfectly honest - we might call it bias, but
1) wouldn't you reasonably think that agriculture would have been practised in those same areas before people moved to that Westernised lifestyle?
2) would the extreme poor be able to afford that same lifestyle?
3) We're talking about a method whereby we help them without spoonfeeding them. If we can find a charity that gives support to the poor without solely distributing funds to them (e.g., a charity that gives vocational lessons to extreme poor residents so that they might be able to earn a living), then we can start talking.

Without being funny, even if the points are sound, they're still missing a few other demographic factors (which I had to study in school, and I wasn't schooled in the UK to begin with!).

So here's my final note: we can suggest charities, but it's ultimately up to the hosts to pick one, trusting that they've weighed between the good and the bad.

Yeah I guess I owe you guys one. I need to clarify the time schedules from the judges and get everything cleared up with Tom. Tom is pretty busy at the moment, so he hasn't sent me a response just yet. I was hoping on getting all the winners a free T Shirt, butttt that might not work out as I had secretly planned to do... I'm gonna wait a couple of more days and if he doesn't reply I'll just work on the results with the judges.
