Whoa.....

If you were expecting CCB today, it won't be out today but maybe tomorrow! In the meantime, enjoy the Last of the Dashkin.

CCB?
Wait, what?

What if your aura represented the dominant content type you contribute to the site, such as movies, games, music, art, etc.

Would you enjoy that or be bothered by that?

Sounds like a fun idea!

I don't really pay attention to those icons. I don't even know what mine looks like.

Aura idea sounds great

Haha i was waiting for him to get his tablet after the results of the treasure hunt Nice going golfinho!

And for the aura poll i have to say no leave them as they are but you could make like a little bar under the aura or maybe a square in the corner of the aura that have the icon representing dominant content a user submits or even maybe even a place for three squares that links you to the art work, flash or audio the user in question have submitted. Other than that my opinion is that most of the stuff on newgrounds already are perfect.

Like this.. but better.. Also i hope you don't mind me using you aura tom.

Yeah one thought was you earn a color for every area you contribute in, so you could choose at that point.

Yes yes yes. This sounds so cool.

I like the idea of getting your own auras for what you give. That's pretty good, Tom.

And congrats!

Response to Winter Wacom 7 2009-12-09 17:57:14

Congrats to golfinho.

And the aura idea would be pretty cool, IF there was some way we could have auras for different attributes of our account, such as having separate auras for voting, reviews, and flash.

Maybe have icons or stamps in a small space under a person's post count?

Auras based on a person are a bad idea. That's like putting a label on everyone based on their appearance or what they do. (NG Holocaust)

The stamp idea is a good one.

I love that aura idea. Since the content I submit is mainly pornographic in nature, would my aura be naughty pink?

Browsing a list of users or a thread, you could quickly determine specialties by the color of the aura.
Would you enjoy that or be bothered by that?

That would be quite cool, actually.

What about people that can't afford Flash or Soundbooth/Garageband/Whatever people use to make audio? Then we're kinda shit outta luck if we ever wanted a certain color, because I don't want to go pay 600 dollars (cost of flash) for an aura color.

I think that new aura idea is a great idea!

Depends on what color belongs to what. I would hate to have the color i most want be something that i never do, like write stories or make music or moderate.

i say go with the aura idea, but make different colors for the new auras so that way people don't get confused. confused by what? well, i think that you should be able to choose whether you want a regular aura or an aura determined by your submission specialty.

also people cant use these new auras unless they submit something obviously

Dont know how usefull that will be... if you mainly submit flash, but have great music, your aura would only show the flash... I myself have submitted flash, art and audio so...
And even if it is a correct reflection, its still no use because you wouldnt know the skill level of the user... I have submitted more art than audio, but my audio might still be lots better that someone who has only submitted 2 or 3 audio tracks but no art or flash...

If you are going to do something like that, Id suggest making it score based... or score and number of votes... so that you can actually see how good someone is.
e.g. you could have a circle, triangle, square, pentagon and five pointed star to represent someones average score (circle is 1, star is 5), and then the size of the emblem could be determined by number of votes he has received... so someone who has got one drawing he keeps fiving, would have a star, but not a very big one...

Yeah that was the first thing on my mind; all the money we would make off a change to the aura system.

In that case we can just sell the auras in the store!

Omg, an aura shirt that matches the auras on the site. Your shirt could be any color aura, and it's title would be in big white/black letters on the chest of the shirt.

that is a kickass idea. i'd totally buy one.

Freedom to choose new auras, but not ditching the old auras? I hope that's included in the above potential plan... because that would be the only change to the aura system I'd personally support.

Incidentally, I just happened to ask to be fully-demodded in April 2007, and when the redesign happened in July 2007 and all the mods got automatically golden-ified, I had fortunately dodged a major bullet by complete accident. I've been green/neutral by voting habits (and then by choice) ever since signing up in 2000.... and never want to change that.

Besides that personal-to-me-and-only-a-few-other-NGer s thought I just shared... three specific thoughts on all possibilities:

A) if you implement this, please allow people like myself to keep their favourite alignment/colour/whatever reason they have for being the aura they are now.

B) the having-a-choice among multiple auras (if you do contribute to the site) sounds like a good system.

C) aside from the modding I did, a single interview for NG Mag, and a few hundred flash/audio reviews (if you consider reviews contributions)..... I have no contributions to NG. If non-contributing members of NG such as myself got to keep their old auras, but anyone contributing in whatever portal got an automaticly-enforced new aura... then I wouldn't contribute in the future (which I was considering, when/if the lit portal ever debuts).

New aura thing? No. I'd rather they be selected by users. Maybe there could be more of a selection though?

And yes, Congrats to the new wacom winner, I WANTED A MEDAL GAME TODAY, and TLOTD was fucking awesome.

Response to Winter Wacom 7 2009-12-09 18:50:52

How about instead of new auras, you made new flash/audio/art/writing related avatars, and they were unlocked on your account if you earned an award in one of those areas? Then people could choose to use that or any of the exp related avatars they'd previously earned.

yeah, keep them waiting like when everyone was waiting for the latest redesign.

remember all the threads constantly popping up. It probably even brought more newgrounders from the anticipation.
