It could work, but you'll have to gently move your portals up until the terminal velocity of the object equals or is greater than the escape velocity of the altitude (the higher you go, the lower it is) you're at. and there's indeed the matter of drag.

I'm wondering, what if you put two portals with uneven sizes? Will it alter the size of the object inserted to the portal? When you put something on the big portal will it come out on the other portal with its size reduced?

Or what if you could make more than two portals? Would that make you come out of both of the portals thus, duplicating you?
