Reviews for "Fisher-Diver"

Simple at its finest

Visuals/Animation: 2.5/3
Audio/Sounds: 2/2
Game play: 4.5/5
Total: 9/10

The Good List: I loved the concept. Lots of exploring, upgrades, a point-combo system, and the general feel of it was relaxing yet fast when the fish started fighting back. The pacing was executed very well too. At first you are fishing for minnows and then you have some "holy crap" moments as you go deeper and realize how small you really are compared to some of the gigantic fish. The fishing fighting each other was a detail that I thought was very cool too. The graphics were great, the controls were smooth and responsive, and the audio/music was very pleasant to listen to.

Suggestions: Usually I do a bad list but honestly, I can't find anything that I can bash you for in this game. Instead I can only provide suggestions to improve it further:
1. Graphics: While the size of the fish in the deepest levels left me in awe for a bit, it wore off as I realized that they are only intricate lines. Imagine the impact if you actually drew out the fish and then drew gigantic sea monsters in the deepest parts of the ocean. Though this all depends on your artistic ability so it could be a hit or miss since I can't gauge your art on this game alone.
2. Varied Upgrades: The upgrade system felt a bit limited. Since you were going for a free roam feel in this game, why not make the upgrades branch out into something more free? For example, customizing attributes like speed/range/health/damage, more tools and weapons, cooler suits, upgrades for the boat, etc. That would bump up the replay value A LOT and people will come back to the game to try out different builds and such.
3. Varied Enemies: In conjunction with drawing out the fish, you could probably come up varied fish that attack differently, swim faster or slower, have tougher scales, and anything else you can come up with. What would also be cool would be to include rare "boss" fish that are hard to take out but give you tons of money for beating them.

I had a lot of fun with this game but it fell short after I beat it because there wasn't too much to do afterwards except fish with overpowered weapons. I feel like this game has a ton of potential and I'm look at the scaffolding for a very good game. I'd love to see how much further you could go with this.

Cheers! ^_^

Thanks for having so much to say!

There's definitely room for a much more complicated game here, but at least for now, I don't want to try to make it. Maybe some day, though!

The first 10/10 I've ever given a game.

First of all, I love fishing games! Not realistic ones, because they're too boring, but I love the thought of the open sea and making your trade with only your own skill and nature's bounties.

Seriously, this is the first game that didn't disappoint me in any way. The visuals were delightfully simplistic, the upgrades very desirable, and it gave you two weapons to choose from which were both balanced yet very different as far as gameplay goes. A truly excellent game.

SPOILERS

I have to say, though, I saw the plot twist coming as soon as he said he had some kind of "plan." I didn't know exactly how it was going to happen, but the breathable water WAS unexpected. I wonder if anybody's beaten the captain? I bet it's possible, but I don't really want to start over.

Great game! Don't make a sequel, this game has no way to go but down. Instead, you should make a different game that's equally good!

Well holy shit, what a nice review! Your opening paragraph totally hits the nail on the head.

Amazing

Honestly, this game is simply amazing.

Everything was said before, about gfx and audio (music in upper sea level is really nice and relaxing). My bows to the author. If I may suggest: more items or higher prices would make it more long-living, after few in-game days it's easy to go home with about 2-3k $ and after a short while there is nothing to spend on. Another thing: in later game you just go deep and hunt 2-3 big fishies and your 'biomass container' is full. I think it would be nice to be able to buy (should be expensive as hell) like two, three more of these containers and leave them on boat, go down, hunt, go up, change container, go back, etc. Also, some over-the-top expensive items that don't do much (like boat upgrades which would only alter the look) would be ok, at least for those like me, who like to have a goal, no matter how pointless :) Maybe fisher hut and furniture upgrades? Of course beating highscores is nice but still... ;) WANTS MOAR!!! :D

And game became my instant fav.

FreeAsANerd responds:

Thanks a ton!

The game has a lot of room to grow, but I'm not sure if I'll ever actually want to make another one. It's certainly possible, though.

Strange lovely concept.

Where do you input "givemefreedom?"

Amazing game too, really :)

FreeAsANerd responds:

Thanks!

You just want to type it in while you're on the main menu. There's no input box or anything. Make sure the Flash window has focus, first, though.

very nice

definitely an amusing game. very unique
