I was preparing to make a big front page post thanking everyone for coming out to the Big Apple Con in NYC when Luis beat me to it and summed things up pretty well. But I'll make a post anyway and try to out-list him!
So the whole idea for a NY con came up last summer at the San Diego Comic-Con, when MindChamber was like "Fuck this west coast shit, we need some east coast love." I've been totally conned out from the mixture of Comic-Con, PAX, IGF, SlamDance and SXSW, (2007 was so busy I never even made pages for any of the cons) so I told MC that if he could pull it together, I'd pay the expenses and show up. I didn't want any more distractions, with Castle Crashers still in development after three years.
MC began plotting with Luis and Eric Black and decided the Big Apple Con (a NY comic convention) would be a good place to start. Eric got us signed up for two tables, Luis rented a van, MC prepped a DVD, made flyers, patches and a fancy price list poster, while Bob packed up a bunch of existing merch from the store. Swain came by the office and helped load up the van before the guys (MC, Luis, Swain) left Friday afternoon to get set up in NYC.
April and I showed up on Saturday and the booth was running like clockwork! A number of NG regulars helped set up and run the booth, including EyeLovePoozy (who normally visits NG from his crane above the Miami skyline), TomaMoto, Krinkels, Afro-Ninja and LeftHandedSock.
Lots of other NG regulars showed up, including Nogfish, Nathanial and Bryce Millburn, DarkShadow8181, Radioactive24, El-Presidente, mynamewontfitin, Techno, TSstudios, Cz-Backlash, Kirbopher15 and others!
The artists got to sign autographs and take pictures with fans. The convention was a lot smaller than the San Diego Comic-Con, but we still got a good turnout and had a lot of fun. We're planning to get more mobile and tackle more cons in the future. I'm considering Wizard World Philadelphia (June 2009) and maybe something in Chicago or Florida. We'll have to check out our options.
A ton of NG regulars will be at the San Diego Comic-Con, July 24-27th! Check out this list of attendees that RubberNinja has been maintaining.
I will be at the Behemoth booth, showcasing a FINISHED BUILD of Castle Crashers and pimping CC / NG merch. With CC wrapping up, my attention will be turning heavily to making games for NG again, after a two year lull since that K-Fed game. Words can't describe how excited I am. :)
