I like Italian ice, but I have a major problem, whenever I eat the stuff, it cuts the roof of my mouth which hurts the rest of the day. Is there any method that you use for eating it that stops this from happening? It's really annoying when it cuts the top of my mouth and I wish it wouldn't do that.

I don't even know why you're eating italian ice... the only place I've ever known of people to eat italian ice is at hospitals, and that's typically because they're put on a liquid diet due to being unable to take a hard shit.
Tasted it one time when I was visiting a patient, it tasted like shit.
I don't eat Italian ice...but if you were to eat it without it cutting the roof of your mouth...

My favorite Italian ice that you can get in the grocery store is Lindy's. I've only had the orange flavor, but it's awesome. My second favorite is probably Luigi's.

Those are both my favorite, I like Lindy's Strawberry and watermelon flavor.

You should get smoother Italian ice and not the kind you would find in a regular grocery store, if you have the chance, because that would probably solve a lot of your problems. Or not...maybe just the fact that it's naturally cold is the main problem. If that's the case, I'm not sure a different eating method would even work for you. I eat it the way most people would expect, using mostly my tongue for smaller quantities, and a spoon for larger quantities.
My favorite place to get Italian ice from is at the Lemon Ice King of Corona on 108th Street and 52nd Avenue in Corona, Queens. Very wide diversity of flavors, authentic and much better than Ralph's and Uncle Louie G...simply the best Italian ice place anywhere, though most people here probably don't live anywhere near it. I was most recently there yesterday and I've been going there for years.

I've always eaten it by shaving off pieces with a spoon as well. I've never seen anyone eat it any other way and I grew up in a neighborhood where that was basically everyone's dessert every non holiday night of the year. I was sincerely concerned and confused when you said it was causing you discomfort/pain to eat Italian ice. Give that shot, I guess.
Also, when you're halfway done, flip the ice over in the cup and start eating from the bottom part. All the flavor collects at the bottom.

You could try pouring hot water over the Italian ice to have it melt a little more and become a little more like a slushy.
Whenever I eat Italian ice this doesn't happen, but sometimes it happens with a popsicle, so this is what I do.
Sharper ice than sorbet, I guess? Don't think I've ever tried that.
