I've been getting back into animation lately, and so I've decided to make an animation thread in light of that. .w.
Also just an fwi, I'm trying to get the fundamentals down so nothing I'm doing is extraordinary at the moment. So beware if you don't want your eyes to bleed. O:

Side note, why is it so hard to export a gif while still retaining quality. >:o

Anyways, I'm starting off with this thing. I wanted to make the ears look like they were blowing around spontaneously (and instead made them look choppy) and I still feel like I could have added in some more inbetweens, but I refuse to go back to the dreaded process of making it into a gif again. I refuseeee

More animation stuff, wanted to practice. I feel like the key poses are really weak and that the movement is really sloppy, but I gotta start learning somewhere. ;w;

Man, I hate walk cycles so much. I always lose track of which leg is which somehow, so it ends up looking like they're teleporting around.

haha...,same here - try using different colors e.g purple for the left leg n' brown for the right and see if it can work for you or you can use different shades of the same color.

Yeaah, I should probably try that. ;w; Maybe my brain isn't registering the black and white even though it's shaded.

Also it could be that I'm too sleep deprived. lol

Converting things to a gif is such a pain in the butt eugh. Wish Flash or swivel had that option (or well, a functioning option (cough)).

Anyway, did an experimental rough animation to try and get movements down. Idk if I'll do anything with it though.

At a glance the ears look really good. I think the choppiness probably comes from the visible break from the head and ears up top. I like it though.

Yeah, just imagine what you can do now. I'm friggin' jealous. I wish I was better at art fug. It's so embarrassing admiring other people's stuff then drawing like a 3 year old because I can't into my own interest. I live vicariously through up and comers like you :3

Well thank you very much!! ;; I really appreciate it!

But yeah, that fear of failure is def tough to get past. I feel the same way with music, I'd love to try my hand at it but some kind of force just prevents me from getting to it.

Yeah actual music programs are so much more complicated than Mario paint. You open up a VST labeled 'synth sounds' and another one labeled 'guitar' and then they sound almost identical but different pitches. It definitely takes some proper instruction. But I bet if you got someone on the forums here to help teach you, you could make something interesting.

Yeh exactlyy, it's all very confusing for me. Plus I'm not very musically intelligent, so I have a lot of trouble picturing things through audio instead of visuals.
I would love for that much help, but I'd feel a bit strange since teaching someone basics like that would take a lot of time.

There are some tutorials on youtube, though if you're anything like me, you like being taught a certain way with either THE MOST INTERESTING steps to success, or something you know you can use in minutes to make something cool. There's nothing worse than sitting through 60 minutes of someone talking and showing you steps, and still having no idea what you're doing, and then not wanting to even try because of the time you wasted. So its important to find a good one.

MOREEEE

animations

that I did

This time around, I tried doing some more ease-ins and practiced a bit more with timing. Hopefully I'm getting this down, I've always had trouble with animation due to lack of patience. oof

Prolly should have widened the canvas a bit but hey, as a study it served it's purpose.

Really cool thread. This could end up being really interesting if you manage to keep it going for a while. It will be interesting for you to see how you improve over time. Do you have any particular way in which you decide what you want to attempt animating?

Aw heck yeah, thank you! I'm planning on studying animation for a little while, while I do painting studies, so I'm hoping I'll improve by a lot.
There's not too much rhyme or reason, most of the time I'll see someone do something specific with their animation an I'll want to try it too (like doing a perspective one even though I'm bad at it). But most other times is me just feeling like animating something out of the blue, or from doing art and wondering how it'll be animated.

Wondering how something is animated is always a good way to start. Recently I've been watchine a lot of ova's from the 80s and 90s and have been trying to understand and replicate a lot of the fx animations they did. Things like lightning or momentary shine on metallic surfaces. Its been interesting sometimes you learn how to do new things that are difficult and sometimes you learn simpler ways of achieving things. Generally speaking though, seeing something you like and you think looks good and trying to replicate it is a great way to exapand your animation skillset.
