As some of you may have seen on the Stick Slayer page and MindChamber's post, NG has lost a beloved artist.

Ben Spurgin (ben-spurgin and benspurgin) made his Flash debut in 2000 and became an NG celeb with his Stick Slayer series. Ben's joy of animating was infectious and inspired many artists to follow in the same path.

Ben was back at it almost a decade later, with Stick Slayer IX on the way. He was only 31.

Our thoughts are with Ben's Mom and family. Losing a loved one is never easy.

We may never get to see Stick Slayer IX, but we can still have one last celebration of Ben's awesomeness. A small group of artists who were around in the Ben days are coming together to create a tribute to his work. There isn't a lot of room in this collab but if you are an old-time accomplished NG contributor and want to help out, shoot me a PM and we'll see what we can do! Include your email address in the PM, so I can put together a contact list to move forward with.

If you have any memories to share about Ben, post them here! JakBaronKing has suggested setting up an NG Memorial page for the artists we've lost over the years, so that is under consideration. I intend for NG to last the next 100 years, so this sort of page will unfortunately become more and more necessary.

Pity your icon is giggling with glee, Tom.

RIP Spurgin.

May you continue making flash in the afterlife, so the rest of us have something to look forward to.

Yeah... Shit happens...
The memorial page sounds like a great idea on a better note.

Damn...that's sad. My respects go out to him and his family. Pimps Quest was one of the first games that I played on Newgrounds, probably one of the things that kept me coming back since I beat that game over a dozen times. Rest in peace Ben. We'll miss you.

I agree with a memorial page as well.

Why do people always post stuff up on their twitter before they post it up on NG?

A memorial page is a great idea, actually. Something like this, right:

Username > Heroin
Username > Suicide
Username > Suicide
Username > Gunned Down by Cops
Username > Suicide
Username > Shot up School, then Suicide
Username > Shot up School, then Gunned Down by Cops
Username > Suicide

a goddamn heroin overdose.

I remember watching those movies years ago, they were pretty damn cool.

Anyway, it sucks that he died, especially at such a young age. Hopefully nobody else here will make the same mistake he did by taking heroine.

Wow. It's terrible to see any person pass away before their time, but for Newgrounds it's even more saddening since he was here from the beginning. A classic.

That's a great idea. It's going to be awesome to see how many oldschool artists you can get back in the game, it's just a shame it's not under better circumstances.

I never really knew who he was. Too bad he had to die of such a horrible thing as drug overdose. I mean how often to Newgrounders really die?

LOL

but yeah that's sad

it's always weird when a newgrounder dies and they just have that dead empty user page

the memorial page sounds like a good idea

died at 31 due to drugs, unfortunate, and sad, but he can only blame himself.

R.I.P

I think it's always a bit surreal when people die as young as he did.
