Reviews for "Sol: Clockwork- Part 1"

Pretty nicely designed

What I thought was best about this was how it took its time. Granted, it did seem to go on a bit too long, but it was still fun to play. I think things really took off when the girl came and you got to show off your weapons. I assumed you would get a medal just by not skipping the first cut scenes, but I was wrong. At least I managed to get one without even looking at what that medal meant. The graphics are pretty good.

The music is decent and gives off a nice feeling of being in a medieval atmosphere. I was confused with how I wasn't able to interact with anything in the first houses. From the title, I was thinking this was going to be Clock Crew related. It's one of the few submissions that isn't. There's a fine amount of detail in this too.

I like it so much...

but I really have only one gripe, and that is I wish there was a journal so I can see what I have to do next.

Very nice

very good game with nice graphics and music.

the gameplay is challenging without getting on the nerves.

(Spoiler alert : just one thing that must be a bug : the spectral ray spell keeps killing every single enemy with one shot, even bosses, whatever are their nature ( light, dark, earth... ). After hitting the enemy, it's HP bar says "Nan/the maximum HP of the foe" )

Amazing game!

Timing based battle mechanics aren't often used in rpgs, but I find they add a certain immersion that otherwise is missed. You have to keep conscious effort through the battle much like the character actually would instead of just ordering a command and sitting back.

The execution of said mechanic is rather fun, allowing a level of skill that allows the player to beat most enemies without even taking damage and to quickly dispatch enemies as a reward for better performance.

Some things I would tweak is the bow is a bit overpowered near the beginning, doing 8 damage compared to the swords 3. I find getting perfect timing on magic is too easy, I would suggest a slower bar with a yellow/green/red zone for normal, double, and fail respectively.

I find it was unclear where to find the alchemist, one of the characters should mention where they live or the path. I mean if you assume the graveyard is done with and you need to progress there is only the one option, but still I didn't want to move forward without any indication I was going the right way.

Those are just small things, aside from that it was a great experience, great job!

Good and interesting

I love RPGs, and I'm only ever happy when another is made. I think this is a good game, and the music is great (though the Shale music is kinda cheesy). The graphics look a mite simple at times but are otherwise quite good. The plot is also interesting, I was actually surprised to see what had kidnapped the girl!
However, I found the controls a little difficult to use. I disliked having to use my left hand for both movement and interactions, and using the mouse was a bit annoying; it might be good to cut it out or allow players to continue conversations by clicking anywhere. I suggest allowing the option to use the arrow keys for movement as well, to make exploration smoother. I also suggest making the battle spacebar reaction times a little longer, as the only way I could do a combo or dodge was by mashing the spacebar, and even that didn't always work.
Otherwise a fun game that just needs a few minor tweaks to make it even better!
