I don't mind the whole 'Friends' idea. But as you said, Another myspace would have to suck. I like thwe original picture you posted, Mainly because it doesn't appear as if it would dominate the userpage original theme?

Also, What feautures will you get from having friends added, Besides showing them off?

That sounds like a cool idea to me.

It might be a nice feature...on the other hand...it could become an issue much like Face-Book where the whole point is to gather as many friends as possible.

Sometimes it's better to keep friends discrete, if one person your friends with isn't friends with another one of your friends...it might cause problems.

Cause with the level system...it's all about who's on top. Who's the top five or the #1 vs the bottom of the list.

And EVERYONE....will be asking famous artist with COUNTLESS numbers of PM messages asking to be part of their friends list...making one upset if it is turned down.

It might be a good idea...but it might not....depending on certain situations like the one I mentioned above.

i think a watch list would be neat.

like deviantart/sheezyart. but its only public on the page of the person who's being watched. i dunno i hate the current system meaning you have to add someone to your favorites just to be notified. and it's through email. it'd be cool if there was a message panel in general, an inbox that notifies universally, not just for pm's.

No, bookmarks dont notify you if your favourite artist submitted something or made a new post on his/her blog. Also, friends lists show people how important they are in the flash/audio community and give your friends plugs to their userpages too...

also, i have faith people wont be like that, i doubt good artists will accept those friend requests from random people and im also pretty sure there will be rules against that kind of faggotry :P or they will just block them if they get annoying, and i doubt people will like getting blocked, so they wont do those kind of comments....

ill accept friend requests from anyone. I'm all for the community!!

i think the thumbnails that show up should be randomized.. the whole idea of em i think is to get people acquainted with a new artist.. kind of like user of the day but on a more concentrated level... i would get bored of going on my account and seeing johnnyutah and stamper on my top 5 friends all the time

Hmmm... while this an intresting Idea I agree some people my take as some myspace crap, BUT it would help out artist who are working togather and maybe inspire unity amoung newgrounds user. It our job to make sure it doesn't turn in to a myspace knock-off. But either way Myspace aint got nothing on NEWGROUNDS, LOL!!!!! I thnk people would be driven away from using Newgrounds a social networking site because Newgrounds aint the friendliest place I know of.... just don't make it so that people will treat it as Myspace by keeping people from setting up galleries of their summer vaction crusie or the time they went to the movies. THEY CAN DO THAT IN THEIR FLASH!!!!!

The friends list sounds great! If we do go through with it, I think your portal buddies should automatically be added to your friends list.

Friends list? Hmm... Maybe if there was some sort of special interactions when you have friends, like referring them to interesting threads or something of the sorts.

When I first started using Newgrounds, I thought the portal buddies system was just like a friends list. :p

I'm all for the friends system for Newgrounds, just as long as you DON'T have a "top friends" list in the profile... Now that would be too much like MySpace. Though I do dig the idea of seeing if a user is online or not. Rather than have a top friends list, you could just have some kind of "online friends" list, then have a link which allows people to see a list of your friends in alphabetical order. That'd be swanky.

With regards to the "friends system" you've got on the backburner: slippery slope, Tom. I agree that the userpage is sort of dead-end-ish right now, but this site has something superior to what MySpace and Facebook have, and I think that that is what Newgrounds should capitalize on. The "buddy" system thing could open up a lot of really nasty doors. I come to Newgrounds to get away from that trashy stuff. If anything needs to be added to the userpage, it should be some way of emphasizing the flash/music content of each user. Maybe a new way of browsing userpages? Maybe a way to make peoples' pages more unique as a way to express themselves/express their media (categories/cliques of users?)? I dunno. It's up to you, and not up to me, thank God.

For the longest time I wish NG had a box where your favorite artists new videos appeared in. Like the subscribed box on youtube.

Oh great. Now I'm going to have to agonize about who I put on my "top friends" and how I sort them (and who I accept) here as well. People will inevitably make a big deal about it and we'll all waste too much time trying to keep everyone satisfied. This is one of the reasons why I abandoned the idiotic popularity contest known as Myspace.

The friends list could be good, but would also be nice would be an enemies list.

I like this idea, but there are some people whose blogs I often read (and would want to be updated on), but who I wouldn't put on my favorite flash artist list. Of course, I wouldn't necessarily make them friends either.
