Oh, you're such a card!

Anyone have tips for sculpting or wanna link me to something because I've been struggling with:
A. Molding a solid piece of clay by hand and keeping it consistent without the heat from my hands messing up everything
B. Figuring what to use to make the clay nice and paintable without being glossy

I'd just go out and buy some cheap carving tools, i wouldn't imagine they'd be more than 10 bucks. Much less frustration down the line, especially if you wanna make more stuff, because the heat from your hands is gonna be more or less unavoidable.

Then again, if you don't want to buy anything, you could just use things from around your house. Old silverware, especially a spoon, is great for carving and finishing the surface of a sculpture.

You really shouldn't have to use anything. If you're using Sculpey or something similar, just fire that shit and it should be ready to paint. Then again, if you're using ceramic clay, you might want to sand the surface a bit after you fire whatever you're making. Wear a respirator, though; clay dust isn't something you want to breath.

I don't know why I didn't think to use retired tools and such, I started using some fans (from drumming) and exactos and stuff I have been suffering a week long brainfart or something.

And thanks for giving me an excuse to buy a cool gas mask

What kind of clay have you been using? Most of the ones i can think of aren't affected by heat.
Also, I like self-hardening clay myself- as long as you keep it damp it's workable.

Probably not going to do this, but has anybody ever made a thread before that was open to anyone and basically just a free for all draw brawl?

Yes, at least I think it's what you're talking about. About a year ago or so, it was a blast until everyone got bored and or were tired to getting ninja'd by 2 minute doodles.

interesting, rules would need to be made to make that not really a thing that could happen. boredom i could see being a thing, but if it was open to anyone i could see it going on for a while. just a good excuse to draw some dynamic poses and design a little bit. i used to be a drawfag on 4chan so that style of posting is pretty common to me but im not so sure about the other people here. It can be alot of work, would it be worth making again do you think? id hate to be the only one posting.

its actually been done many times, loads of themes lots of different takes on it, all the same outcome, about a week or so of drawings then they eventually die down and fall into the abyss of the forum, are you thinking about a battle style thread or an ongoing story type thing, the battles are usually more fun and last longer

That would be fatelogic, right?
And i've actually seen people redrawing the paintings and then uploading it to ng. But they gave some credits, and they were forgiven. So, i don't really know, it's up to you

I'd be more upset about you being a dick to one of the more obscure or unskilled artists. The famous ones probably aren't so easy to offend by now.

Is this for the M&A thing, or just general practice?

id say it wouldnt offend him, it'd more be taken the wrong way by his fanbase, then good luck trying to get through to them, id run the idea by shad first or at least ask him first before you do it just to make sure, but the fanbase probably still wont take it well

Doesn't sound like it would count as art theft. It's not even like you aren't planning to credit your resource.

Personally, I think they need it. Wake 'em up; remind them what female bodies actually look like. I just want to know if it's against any kind of NG rules.

I say either be clear about what you're planning to do; or just do it. We can't tell if it's okay or not if we don't know what you're planning to do. I'm sure it'll be fine though.

There is nothing wrong with redrawing another artists piece and changing it to your style. One artist's version of a subject might be totally different from anothers. Look at all the variations of American Gothic, or the scream, or the mona lisa.

They arent copies so much as they are parodies or retellings of the same piece through the skill and style of a different artist. Its always cool to see how a different artist might have handled a certain image or idea.

In fact I had a contest that revolved around this very idea planned. Taking one artist's work and remaking it as your own. I scrapped it due to time issues but I might revive the idea one of these days.

That sounds great. Hope it gets revived soon, say after Robot Day. I was also thinking of kicking off AVAT when RD was finished as well.

Oh god I really thought I was the only person on newgrounds who absolutely hated shadmans porn art. I was actually afraid to say anything because of the shitstorm i figured would erupt. I am so happy to know I am not the only one.

Okay, this is really getting irksome: does anybody else experience problems with NG not loading media? Because this is effectively making NG unusable for me.
I can go to the art portal and thumbnails may refuse to load. I may go to a piece's page and it may not load. I may visit an art thread and half of the images don't load. Dumping grounds? Effectively unusable. Audio portal also has very questionable stability.

And I've tried both with Chrome, Firefox and Internet Explorer, all suffering from the same problem. On two computers :/

I think most poeple on the art forum aren't his biggest fans.

I only have this problem with art I view from the unscouted section; for those it helps (me) to delete part of the url:
www.newgrounds.com/art/view/[artist name]/[artwork title]?context=ratings:etm.scouted:.unscouted:1.allow_banned :1.offset:3
Removing everything after the title (?context=ratings:etm.scouted:.unscouted:1.allow_banned:1.of fset:3) makes it load properly... dunno if that's the same problem you are experiencing though.

I think that may be more of an internet connection issue as oppose to a browser issue.

I like this idea and I have girlish hands.

I agree with Turks, this sounds like a pretty fun contest. If it happens I might actually participate in it.
