Shit balls-looks like I wont be able to make it for the deadline :(

You see, I live in canada and the money they showed was in USD and not CD, so I figured that it would automatically change into USD when they processed my order-BUT it turns out that the bank attached to the paypal handles the change of money and NOT the service-so I checked again and it turns out that my order will be completely processed... by Nov. 30...the end date-and then there still is one or two days for the package to come here by 1st class US mail...

Is there anyway at all I could put my foot in the door and still be in this competition- I mean I am trying my hardest to get in there and the WZL has alreay been ordered and I don't want to do all this for nothing...

please?

Well im not going to hold up the whole project for one person. That would be deeply selfish.. If you dont get it done in time you can go ahead and pm me and we'll get your stuff up to the office to join the rest of the pieces .. in regards to the actual competition you'd likely miss that though. I mean its not fair to the people who made arrangements to get their things in on time. You know what i mean? :-/

I think your best bet if you want to make it in by the time the competition part of it wraps up is to a) arrange for some expedited shipping when you finish b) hope there is some gigantic blizzard or something that would cause me to head up to the office at a later point.

does elaborate packaging count for anything or are you just marking the wzls?

It'll just be a general vote of everyones 5 favorites.. by everyone i mean myself and the staff. Its too hard to say that a great packaging will sway anyone one way or another..

For instance i may appreciate the completeness of having a fully painted wzl and its little package or customized stand. While someone else could look at the project and think to themselves ok this project was about making the best wzl not the best wzl + package. Both opinions are perfectly valid so you never know.

As for my personal preference. To me execution is key. I dont really get caught up in having LED lights or anything truly elaborate if its not executed cleanly. sometimes a simple clean execution is better than one that had a great idea but maybe was too ambitious and was just not up to par in carrying it through in the final product.

But as I said everyones judging parameters are different. I cant speak for how everyone will appreciate each solution.

Alright, das cool
I think if I do actually try hard enough, I can possibly be able to make it for the 14th, but where in the states are you? If your close to the border (east side) then shipping will be quick, but there will be a problem if you live down south...

anyways, the judging scheme seems fair, because all the staff have very different styles, so the judging will be diverse and fair, so thats good.
Aaaaand awesome! This has made my day, 'cus, now y'know I'll probably participate, try an make something awesome! Kthx

as for the blizzard thing, that would mean my order would get caught up somewhere anyways :P

I'm pretty much finished with mine, gunna clean it up a little, find a beard somewhere, and gloss it.

Some questions: Is it possible to glue a hair-like substance (Like with Luis Tricky Clown munny.) on to an already glossed munny? Or should I add the gloss later? Or should I leave an area on the thing not glossed to glue it on to? Basically any tips and answers related to that would be very helpful.

No camera to take a pic as of currently.

I'm gonna need to bum a camera off someone.
Hopefully I'll get a pic up soon.

after christmas im gonna get a couple and some paint and play around.
they look awesome, i think a couple next to my tv would go great.

I used superglue to attach the hair on mine.. i would imagine it would adhere to a gloss or unglossed just the same... my only warning is that you have to work really fast cause it dries so fast.

Also i would say gloss it only if you think itll make it look better... i am not convinced that the gloss makes everything better. Some look great with it, some may look better with a more flat look.

Thanks for the help. Mine looks a little too flat un-glossed, I definitely think It'll give it a more organic look.

Also: make sure you coat it with something if you used paint/ink that can smear if it's rubbed. Like I used on mine. Because I didn't have anything else.
You can use something with a matte finish if you don't want your little dude to look like porcelain, but I would definately recommend coating it with something just so the colors don't fade and so it's possible to clean it later on without affecting the paint job.

I just shipped mine today, so finally no more worries about it. Wasted enough time, im supposed to be studying for a math exam x_x But still, t'was fun.

But say, when you receive all of them, are you gonna take pics of them later and stuff? Everybody here would sure love to see the entries of all participants after when you take them to the office.

Do you have further plans on showcasing the munnies? And if so, how are you gonna arrange it?

So uh, spray on gloss is a bad idea. It made all my paint run. Fuck. I'm going to have to repaint most of the face.

Spray on gloss is probably better for an "overall-even-coat" type deal, but with all spray products if you don't know how to use them it can get tricky.

For those who already threw the extra buck or two into getting a spray can, they do work, you just gotta do it right. First all all, make sure that shit is shaken up plenty. Most importantly, ALWAYS spray it for a couple of seconds on a test piece of paper or something. This should get some unpleasent drippyness looking sprays out of the way. Then make sure the can is perpendicular to the ground and parallel to your object. Spraying at angles causes for streams and more liquidy results.

I'm sorry to hear your misfortune MiddleFingerRIngs. Good luck painting him up again. I hope I can find at least 1 finished model in all of these that isn't so glaringly shiney from overuse of gloss. It looks cool for some, but like Luis said not everything needs to be so shiny I can't see it.

Well, I kinda have a feeling that I'm one of those who has a gloss that people see as unnecessary. Well, as a matter of fact, my figure got a much more "neutral" finish after all the layers of brushed gloss was done. Due to the fact that it kinda layers on top of the paint-strokes and gives a smoother surface, giving cleaner shadows and highlights. So yeah, I'd say it's more reflective and less shiny in some way. Think about a brushed thick painting behind a glass plate.
Anyway, it does look better. And just shut up, it's an individual project.

Here's how mine is looking at the moment, I messed up on part of the head so I've had to repaint it. I'll post again once its all complete. I've had so much fun doing this, totally awesome idea for a NG project luis. I can't wait to see like a photo of all of them side by side once there all back at the NG office. Anyways all comments and opinions are welcome.
