Why does the U.S. suck this year? Wasnt this the year we were supposed to go deep?
The US had no strong midfielders to even attempt to control or direct play. Donovan is the "best" the US has and I just don't like him. To my knowledge, he's never said or done anything wrong, I just never liked him from the first time I saw him. He didn't do anything right in the Cup either, so my opinion has not been improved. Even beyond him, the overall play was uninspired, slogging defense looking for a breakaway ... which works if you don't constantly fuck up your passes and fail on your offside traps 75% of the time. IMO most of he blame should go to Arena, for what they did, and FIFA's ranking system, for what was expected of them

You think Poll is bad? For fucks sake Portugal will have to deal with that Russian cunt Ivanov who fails game after game.
A prediction that proved far too accurate ....

Germany is gonna win the world cup
They're actually playing like they want to win now. Much better than I expected, though I still don't see them progressing to the Final. Friday's match against Argentina should be one of the better of the tournament, no matter who wins. I'll be rooting for Deutschland, but I don't see them pulling it off with Lehman in front of the net.

I hate to admit it, but that was one hell of a goal....
Mexico is one of those teams that you look at and think that they deserve a top finish, if not actually winning the Cup. A goal like that though, dream shot ...

And Argentina wins 2-1 and they'll face Germany in their next match.. But let's be honest both teams deserved to win this game they went out played a great game and left it all out on the field and it took one hell of a goal to decide the game. So props to Mexico for giving Argentina one hell of a battle and props to Argentina for winning what was a tough game for them.
Probably the best summation of what this is all supposed to be about, though I'd have to say that this is the toughest challenge since they faced Brazil in qualifying ... unlike the Portugal-Netherlands crap where they just picked up where they left off at the Euro 2004 brawl.

Even if Argentina passes, Germany will rape them 4-0.
Why is everybody so optimistic about Germany? I didn't even think we'd get past the group stage (or what ever that's called in English).
Group Stage/Group Round/Group Phase ... all the same really. Save for Ecuador, we had a pretty weak group and odds were we'd make it out to the 16, but I don't see us making it past Argentina without some truly inspired play. Podu was great yesterday, but everyone will have to step it a notch or three to win.

What a game. Oh well, England vs Portugal it is then. Our arch-rivals, no less.
Yeah, but after that brawl ... err game, Portugal is down two starters for at least 1 game and has half a dozen players carrying yellow. Didn't one of their guys catch a 4 match ban off a red as well? No telling if Ronaldo will be fit either. I won't say it will be a walk in the park, but the edge is definitely to England for Saturday's match.

4 Expulsions, 16 yellows!
Outrageous.
Have to agree, once again the refereeing ruined what was potentially a great game. It's been ridiculous in this tournament.
This is the worst I've seen it. Robben going up for a header in the box and getting kicked in the shoulder and the ref making NO CALL was utterly ridiculous. With everything else that was getting carded, how was that not even a foul? Half of both teams should have been tossed for those altercations, but hopefully FIFA, UEFA, or both will at least follow up and hand out some sanctions and fines for it. Bad officiating only made things worse.

Well one thing is sure, portugal and holland are pretty equal opponents when it comes to taekwondo.
Thanks. After that fiasco, I needed a good laugh =)

But my biggest disgust, that actually made me want to win the match for justice mostly is when the Dutch broke an age old tradition/ etiquette. Their player was down, the ball went of the game while we where attacking. When the game gets going, initially it looks like Portugal is getting the ball back and we where waiting…but no. the pass went to Heitinga who just took off with the ball leaving the Portuguese players glued to the field because they expected the ball. And that for me was absolute foul, just foul. I have seen losing teams with 5 minutes left to play give the ball back to the other team. It was a big disgrace that act of shit. Am I wrong?
Not in the least. I gaped at the TV when I saw him make a run and finally managed to yell, "what the fuck do you think you're doing?" right before they tackled him. Quite frankly, he deserved that hit ... and the stern talking to that Portugal was giving him while he was on the ground.
The Holland players' reaction, pushing them away from him, was understandable, but they could have handled it soooo much better. Instead they earned a couple extra yellows while Deco got his second, and all because Heitinga decided to be a nitwit.

Is the USA still playing or not?
Long gone. Czech Republic handed them their asses back in Group, and their best result was a 1-1 tie against Italy. They ramped up their play against Ghana but it was too little too late and still got beat, so now they are back in the States watching it on TV.
