AWSOME!!

Loved it and great job on adding that old school movie, i love old sci-fi flicks :)

WHERE?

I enyoyed the game but...
I couldn't find the last level lift!
Maybe Im just a noob but -_-

Very Good Game!

I had a great time playing this game, I even quietly screamed once because I didn't expect the beetles to come out of the ground. I also enjoyed the music and the graphics, especially when you first use the terminal - very surprisingly enjoyable. Absolutely enjoyed the destructible environment... setting things on fire and watching them turn to ash!

Though I had a couple of flash game open, but didn't experience any of the lag mentioned by other players. I did experience lag on a different game I played days before & was suggested to clear my cache, cookies, history, etc to speed up connection - this is something I would suggest.

I'm rating this an 8 because I've played it 3 times and only once made it all the way through. The first time, was buying weapon upgrades & learning you can only equip two at a time - while that creates balance, it's always nice to know there is a limit before I blow the money on it. So I restarted, since I wasn't that far into the game yet. The second time I played, I got to the 3rd level, which is the only one that requires you to play in the dark (using night vision). I killed everything, but to my surprise the mobs respawned while the guy was hacking the door... I barely survived. By the next hacking of the door, I forgot about the respawn and went to hide in a nearby room... the big ugly bug spawned and I was killed, the screen went black. Unfortunately, after coming back to life the screen stayed black, while the bugs screeched and killed me twice more. Game Over.

I also enjoyed the weapon variety, very creative array of choice. My personal favorite was the shotgun - has a 5-6 shot spray, you can upgrade to maximize damage and mag capacity, and it fires quicker than the RPG. The flamethrower, though weak looking is great crowd control, which is useful in the later levels. Though I would complain that the range on the flamethrower is far too great. The RPG is also great crowd control - dealing greater damage, but fires much slower. I can't say that I liked the SMG - it was fast but way too weak, which paled terribly in comparison to just sticking with the assault rife. The vulcan was a great weapon and I can see why it was the most pricey. 500 total rounds, 100 per mag... it was just like the description, cuts through anything... unfortunately, just like the description: it takes some time to get up to speed, which becomes its biggest downfall to being more useful.

I would disagree with skw4712 and say that a non-upgraded assault rifle versus a fully upgraded pulse rifle is no comparison... the non-upgraded AR would take 3 shots to kill a beetle, while the upgraded PR only needs one.

I would agree with UnDeaDCyBorG that the PR is all you really need, but due to it's 200 rounds total, it's not enough to run around with it forever, which takes its toll in the later stages. If you're doing swarm and only use the PR, you'll die a lot!

Problems:
- The holes from which the beetles pop out from can't be walked over & it's a pita to walk into one w/o knowing your stuck for a couple secs.
- I hated having to search for the items because they would be hidden under furniture that were moved by the mobs scuttling about the rooms.
- There are no options to control music and quality.
- More testing is required to fix the many bugs.
- When you respawn, you should be given the opportunity to get away a little. Getting swarmed and dying, then respawning with the same swarm on you makes no sense & you can't run away with them on you.

Squize responds:

Thanks for the great review mate.
Quality is already set to low, I need to really make that more obvious, as to the sound just being on or off, it's got to be taken as a whole, I didn't want music off, sfx on etc.

When you respawn you do have a forcefield around you for a couple of seconds. Because of the nature of the game it's just luck if the baddies are near the check point or not ( Swarm mode is different with no check points ). I need to think of a better way to handle this for the 2nd game, hopefully something will come to me.

Good work for finishing it though, and thanks again.

good job

but if i wanted 2 play a game like this i would just play alien swarm but great job making a flash game based off alien swarm now i dont need steam

Could be so much more

I have to agree with other posters;
This game looks superb, it has fluid gameplay, all the technical aspects work out well.
But the actual gameplay is lacking.
First off, there is balance; A pulse Rifle with FMJ is really all you need.
A bit more differentiation would be nice, range, ammo, damage, spread, strengths versus enemy-types... that stuff.
The level design often gets you stuck on stuff you really don't recognize as an obstacle.
Still, I spent over an hour on it, and it was mildly entertaining, so I expect thew second installment to improve.
