Reviews for "Outpost:Haven"

Nice presentation, but...

The graphics, sound, interface and everything is all great... but that doesn't make up for the lack of substance. I'm not going to sit and read a big block of text, make it interesting. The animations, voice acting, and gun control were big turn-offs, and hurt the atmosphere. Bullets should not move that slowly. Combat is shallow, and requires very little thought or effort. I'm getting multiple rank-ups and achievements within minutes of my first fight, and the game barely seems to care

Swarm Weapon

I cant buy the weapon in swarm mode...is there a bug or problem occured in the system? Hope can fix earlier..

Good game, wish it were better.

POSITIVES:
-Top notch graphics for a flash game.
-Music and sound effects that go so well with the game.
-Great presentation/extras (i.e. diaries that you pick up, detailed explanation for each item).
-Story that sucks you into the game.
-Varied gameplay (from sneaking to all-out brawl to beat the clock)
-Overall very addicting once you start (you feel like you have to see the ending).

NEGATIVES:
-Serious lag quite a few times in my gaming laptop. There should be a quality adjustment (L/M/H).
-Endless monsters pop out of holes, which is annoying to say the least, and the fact you can't step on their holes means trouble when you are surrounded or retreating, which is very annoying.
-Boss was way too easy.
-Not much incentive to level up, other than seeing ranks.
-Lack of worthwhile customization (like armor). Existing customization (weapons) is not that good. I felt no difference between some of the weapons, like not-upgraded-at-all assault rifle and fully-upgraded pulse rifle. Should be a greater distinction of ability between weapons.

One big problem I have about this game is weapons. For example, Vulcan, which is supposed to be the best weapon in the game (according to price, description, and level requirement), but it actually is the worst. Vulcan takes too much time to start, and you usually take damage before trying to kill things, esp. one that pops out from the dark. Was useful only in the boss battle. I think it should've been the cheapest weapons because it sure shoots like one.

Final Word: High-quality, very ambitious flash game from Squize and luxregina. This game has so much potential and was too much fun (more mature than vast majority of your everyday flash game), that this game is a must-play for flash-game fans. However, I wish what I found to be those minor problems would be gone for next Outpost game because I can't wait what the next chapter of this story will be. Keep up the good work, Squize and luxregina, you 2 are doing great.

Squize responds:

Excellent review, thanks.
The whole weapons thing is subjective, I'm a pulse rifle boy as it's a good all round weapon, other people swear by the SMG and hate the shotgun.
The Vulcan comes into it's own in large areas with lots of baddies, not tight corridors where they can jump out at you.

I think I may turn the right button menu back on. I turned it off as it's not needed as the game runs in low quality anyway, but I'm having to say that about once a page now :)

We did talk about custom armour, but we just ran out of time.

Thanks again mate.

Very Good

Reminded me allot of alien swarm, could have made walk a tad faster or added a run key

Pretty darn good

It was quite good and enthralling, but it did suffer from some major issues such as your slow walking speed. Even at running speed, your character would be moving painfully slowly. Also at some points in the game, all these large aliens would suddenly appear and crowd around you with no escape. I also experienced some lag, but it may have just been my computer.

Overall, nice game :)
