beware the eyes
an aesthetically impressive game, sometimes enjoyable gameplay, but frequently frustrating. others have mentioned control issues... i dont fault it so much for that, i found it to respond fairly correctly to my input (except for one point where i stopped pressing forward and she kept going, almost walking into the abyss). the awkwardness comes from the fact that this is using the direction keys, and is using a tank-like control scheme, a la Resident Evil.
the REAL problem is perspective. specifically, depth perspective. it's terribly difficult to figure out, in some cases, how far you are from some threats... for instance, the room with the narrow walkways and the one spike constantly shooting out the wall, the spike is *quite* a bit farther back than it really seems. this sort of stuff caused lots of fairly cheap deaths - and i *think* it ought to be easily fixable, if only they added in shadows for such things.
i didnt detest the gameplay, though i understand if others will get frustrated and quit. the majority of my score, certainly, goes towards presentation... aesthetics, sound. the design of the... ghost... near the end is effectively creepy.
incidentally, anyone who's playing it: there are 25 levels (not all involve danger or challenges). there are 15 orbs in all......... but i dont see any reason to bother getting them. i succeeded, and all you get is a silly addendum showing the main character surrounded by some balls, and a message saying you're a true intruder. : / considering the difficulty of managing this, that's a terribly poor payback.
