I've been playing for day. Its great. A Gurren Lagann reference in it made my day.
Amazing game and...
How many medals?!?!?! srriously! that's awesome!!!
I can be a perfectionist. So here is the worst I can say:
1) (the only one that matters) Determining whether a character's attack is magic or physical is totally experiential. There are too many options to remember which is what. A simple M or P or some such moniker would make rough fights easier. I didn't realize that all of Bushido was physical until I went after a monster immune to physical attacks. Your categories work but are not intuitive.
2) The intro goes by too fast to read all of the text.
3) Checking quests: mouse-over shows the shadowed pictures of the items needed but does name them. A lot of blobs look alike until you've played for a neurotic amount of time.
That's it. The rest is bloody purrefct. Balance is great. That's the hardest thing. Making a longplay game which does not require some obstruse combination of moves to win, and doing so at various difficultu levels shows genius. I just finished epic level (but got auto-logged out so I'll have to do it again for the medals.) Even at such an 'impossible' setting it still all works great. And at 'normal' difficulty the game is a just-challenging-enough pleasant pasttime.
Art is good. Humor is there but not overwhelming or forced. The details are amazing. Just the little things NPCs say. I love the downtime animations during combat (Matt juggling, Natz on the IPod, Lance with a map.)
I prefer point & click. It's a personal preferance, so some like it and some don't. But I can agree with the previous reviewer - some folk work better with keyboard control. On the other paw - it's a freakin' free game!
Epic Fantasy 1 & 2 had their good points in the mechanics. But they got boring. When I played them I thought, "This is a good system, but it doesn't go anywhere." With EP3 the game has gone somewhere. That 'somewhere' is damned near purrrrfect.
Immense kudos to ya, Matt. You need to go pro.

Great game with a few flaws.
WARNING: Spoilers are present in this review/feedback (battle-tactics, attacks used, stats...). Read at your own risk. Also, 700+ word review.
This is an excellent game, and a lot of heart and soul went into it. The paper thin storyline serves its purpose as a way to deliver humor. There are some problems with it that don't jive well with me. Any talks about difficulty will be from the viewpoint of Epic. I will delve further into this in the "Gameplay" section.
This game merits at least as something to buy on the X-Box Live Arcade or something like that (on Epic difficulty, this comes out to about a 13-15 hour game, if you include all the time you spend loading from losing the later boss fights). I did not use the walkthrough that was offered.
This game is extraordinarily beautiful. The spell effects are pretty, and even serve as a way to deliver humor (e.g. P2/Natalie's chest). The battle menu is faithful to any RPG game. The User Interface is intuitive and easy to use.
The early music was really hit and miss, but as the game went on, it really improved and got more "epic." Though I did enjoy the repeats (or even re-orchestrations?) of the music from earlier games.
Last boss music was INSANELY awesome. Thank your music guy for such an exceptional track, really.
One of the more annoying things with this game. The "best" part about the controls was using the arrow keys, space bar, and M to access the menu and such. I would have enjoyed the ability to use my arrow keys and space bar or whatever to navigate the menus as well.
In general, for RPG games, it is preferable to be able to use your keyboard rather than point and click at everything. 5/10 for the ability to at least do most "Overworld" actions with the keyboard. This merits a separation from "Gameplay."
Okay, this is the big thing. Epic Difficulty was AWESOME (complaining that it was too hard would be idiotic, since there ARE lower difficulties available...). The difficulty in this game was not "stupid hard" - when you lost, you knew why you lost. Or at least had a feeling it was your fault, and that it was correctable. With the customizable armor and weapon pieces, you could exploit the weaknesses of your enemies as well as minimize the enemy's attacks (other words: good metagame).
Now, what lowered this score was a few things. Among them are instant death attacks (emphasis on INSTANT... 3 turn you die counters are not a problem). Not something that kills you in one shot if you forgot to put up Barrier or if your resistance to something sucked, or if your defense was low or something. The Grim Reaper coming up and owning you is never ever fun for me, and many RPG players. IT SHOULD BE NOTED that there are a multitude of ways to get around these attacks, and as such, this was not so bad.
Another thing I'm going to complain about are the stats themselves. It's not always entirely clear what "Magic Attack" means. Okay, yes, Magic Attack is important for P2/Natalie and her spells, but it was confusing as to what Magic Attack and regular attack applied to for P1/Matt and P3/Lance's attacks. I operated under the assumption that "Special" meant M-Attack applied and "Bushido/Shoot" meant P-Attack applied, but it wasn't clear. I saw the "***% element" for some attacks, but again, I wasn't sure if M-Attack applied to that part of the attack or not.
Oh yeah, the penultimate boss (chimera/dragon boss) was harder than Akron (the last boss). Those 3 dragon heads gave me a lot more trouble than the last boss himself. Which was kind of a letdown given the build-up to this point and the EPIC music in the final area and boss. I made 3 attempts on the final boss, and probably up to 10 attempts on the penultimate 3-headed chimera boss. That may be due to me constantly fiddling around with my resistance gear and M-Def gear to find an appropriate combination, as well as execution in the boss fight itself.
The Akron encounter was still sufficiently epic.
Superior game, keep it up Matt.
Is a great game it's a good rpg and I think the author need make the 4º of the serie!
