Er1cMcPwnag3: your cell phone is in with the american flag.

election year folks. some of us are old enough to vote, and some of us are lucky enough that we can't be held responsible for those in power. either way, you oughta educate yourself.

and coincidentally, not voting is the same as an apocalypse vote.

Your toons are actually pretty damned impressive. I particularly like the emotive "disney-style stretchiness/squashiness" properties that I see in your animation frames. By any chance was Disney one of your primary inspirations for your style?

This type of mentality is intriguing to me, but I can't really say that I agree with you on this. I would be interested in discussing this topic further with you over in the Politics section of the forums, if you are interested?
But still, the cartoon made me giggle. The facial expression is priceless. :)

Awww man! This stuff is amazing! I love the style, the content! Wow good work. You self taugh? Did you study?

Response to Toon Hole. 2008-10-02 02:39:39

Ynek: Thanks sooo much. I really love old Disney. Particularly Milt Kahl, one of their star animators who was part of the Nine Old Men.

I might just start my own thread in the politics forum so we can discuss this. I don't think my cartoon is all that clear. I wanted to make it seem like some Americans actually have to pontificate whether they'd vote a Republican or an utter demise. For some people, voting Democrat is UNFATHOMABLE (liberalphobes), let alone considering third parties (GO GREEN PARTY).

thedo12: Thanks TIm! I liked your Lil Fighter game. You're a pretty good artist yourself! You got the fundamentals and I want to see you do a new film!

Chymo: I've been drawing all my life. I just graduated college and studied animation. But the most I learned was from just watching classic cartoons/comics and analyzing them. You wanna know what was super helpful? Preston Blair's book! Check it out in it's entirety for FREE:

If you got any questions hit me up. I'd love to share theories and hear other people's too!

Cheers for replying. Yeah man I'm currently studying Art and Design at Newcastle College but like you, have been drawing since I was little. I've just got a loan on Anatomy For Artists, which should help me get that realism I've been aiming for.

Response to Toon Hole. 2008-10-05 23:51:46

Chymo - I got Anatomy for the Artist when I was really young. I thought it would really help me, but it was far too academic and too advanced. I still think it's way too advanced for what I'd like. In order to draw SOLID, you gotta learn construction first. Anatomy for the Artist won't teach you those kinda fundamentals. But it will teach you the insertion points of the bicep femoris. Dig? It's pretty advanced if you wanna work on your basics. That's why I really recommend the Preston Blair stuff. Start easy and work your way up. Work with basic shapes and making those convincing. Cartoony drawing strips it down to the basics. If you can't make something basic like that solid, you're never gonna do a crazy Michelangelo figure falling in perspective look convincing. Have a solid grasp of each LEVEL of drawing. Learn to put basic shapes in space, then once you have that mastered, work up your anatomical knowledge to build MORE FORM on top of those basic shapes.

If you want Anatomical books, I would much sooner recommend the books of Glen Vilpuu, Berne Hogarth, and George Bridgman. All the masters of 20th century illustration used those to learn. Anatomy for the Artist is pretty recent, and quite frankly not all that geared toward artists. Just my two cents tho.

I got some more quickie pen drawings from a clothed model session.

Slippery-Nipple: Ren and Stimpy was huge on me as a kid, as well as all the classic cartoons (Looney Tunes, MGM, Terry Toons, Fleischer) that John K drew off of as inspiration. Hopefully it looks "influenced" and not ripped off. What do you think?

Hammi: Thanks dude!

One more doodle that I forgot to post last night.

Yeah, i think you have a distinct style, but it shows your influences, which in my eyes, is a good thing. Keep it up, not many cartoonists left it seems.

thedo12: yeah, games are cool too! I know they're becoming really popular so you're making a smart decision.

Ah, the joys of doodling.
Was this picture modelled on anyone in particular (such as a workmate, classmate, teacher or friend) or was it just drawn to express the way that you were feeling at that particular moment? (Tired, I'm guessing.)

Slippery Nip: Thanks!

Ynek: Both! I'm really tired and I guess that's been showing up in everything I draw. I kinda graft my expression onto what I'm drawing. But yeah, it's a doodle of a real person. There's likeness there, but nothing to write home about.

Patu1: Thanks! I really appreciate it and positive feedback like yours will keep me posting indefinitely!

DarkSytze: Awesome! I think that's the number one goal of a cartoonist, is to show entertaining ideas about people's personalities and results of those personalities. Looks like I'm headed in the right direction.

Hammi: Thanks! I have plenty more coming, and if you like my style, you'll really like our website when we release it (not for a while tho : ( ).

Anyway, another meeting doodle. Another amalgamation of how I feel and a colleague : )

These last two are amazing. I don't know, i can honestly picture their personality and the way they talk. I don't know, your sketches enhance certain traits that define the characters quite well, keep it up.
