Yeah there was an issue with the different timezone people, only 3 of you I think. I guess I should have paired you with one of the Germany dwellers. What I might just do is promote you both 'winners' of some of the inactive games so that Round 2 can get underway, and the penalty for tardiness on the inactive players' part will be to be bumped down to the B tree without even having played.

I'll work it out today at work.

Lol I live in western Canada and CrUiZ3R lives in eastern Australia. I doubt I'll be able to play tonight either. I have to leave in about 10-20 minutes for a couple more hours of flying, and since I've already flown a good two and a half hours today, I'm going to be wiped. So I'll probably be hitting the sack fairly early. I'll probably be back in about 3 hours, so if CrUiZ3R is on, we can play.

When you're in the heat of the battle do you try to use tactics you learnt or do you use raw instinct and cognitive skills paired with brainpower?

This topic hasn't really been covered yet, so I thought we might as well do it.

I am also interested to know this as I've never even touched a strategy guide to chess, or the similar.
Chess, for me, is more "making my own tactics" than "using known strategy"

Basically, I just go with the game. But of course it's inevitable to think ahead.

Depends on the time limit really. For me it's a pretty smooth function, as my time draws near infinite I use way more strategy and figuring all moves sever moves ahead. RHP allows you to manipulate a hypothetical board this way.

Ahh, but that will get you thumped by people who do use known strategy, unless you're very lucky. A lot of people lose sight of the ultimate goal, the checkmate, in favour of capturing and preserving material.

As far as strategy goes, I usually just try to be a pain in the ass if I think the other person is going to win. One time I beat a teacher at my junior high school doing just that. I tend to fall apart half way through if nothing is happening on the board though.

I watched a bit of a T.V show that observed people who played chess, and one of the things they mentioned was that some people are better at seeing patterns, and that really helped their chess game.

Anywho, Youngblood, how badly do you not want to make a Pogo account. I see you have only Yahoo. ;P
