Response to Heavy Metal discussion thread 2008-02-06 00:53:24

this is gonna turn out great cant wait to see the entries.....for the hell ill try doing something for this.....but some questions that are in a list form thing

list

1-how much entries can one make?....it doesnt say unless i missed it someplace

2- can i put my style with realistic people in with it or does it have to do with fantasy like elves, robots and shit like that?

3- how much tracers are gonna love that rule?

Well assuming I get to judge this time around, the technical aspect will be worth more than making jokes and whatnot, so you're probably better off spending a lot of time on one cool entry than a lot of time of 5 medium entries.
Of course if you're the only one to participate, then make like 6-7 and you'll win everything! Cool.

2- can i put my style with realistic people in with it or does it have to do with fantasy like elves, robots and shit like that?

Well check the examples of the old covers I gave out in the contest. That should answer that question pretty well.

Good idea, but as far as the prize being passed on if you're underage, I'm hoping that only means part of the prize. (The magazines.) That's fair, but passing on the entire prize is a bit silly.

looks like I'm the first to show some concept art. maybe people are worried about having ideas ripped off but honestly I don't think I've got a shot at any of the prizes just looking for some constructive criticism. This is just a quick sketch with a little color thrown in for the hell of it so I'm not looking for any "you need to improve shading ect." comments just looking for critiques of my general idea and composition and of course tips are always welcome.

Oh lord.

Time to try to paint a photorealistic attractive woman, fail, delete it, and then pretend like I never tried.

I'm thinking the same thing about now. If I could do photo realism right I would have no more need to be in college.

So this contest is appealing to the artists who are skilled at drawing scantily clad, photorealistic, anatomically accurate, pretty looking women?

Great ¬_¬ but oh well I'll give it a try anyway I guess.

I agree. Way more than half of the people participating will be under 18, and most people on Newgrounds are under 18, so that basically telling most people not to even try.

But you do see my point in that some insentive for under 18s would result in more participants. Leaving out the 18+ mags is logical, maybe, but there's no reason to pass the prize money on.

Personally, this would be something I'd do for the cash prize, but it's a sizeable project, and it's on the bottom of my priorities if there's no prize for me.

the magazines are like, the only part worth getting.

Speak for yourself. Some of us need that money.

I'll give this a go when I get home...
But it might have to wait until tomorrow, when I have more time, and my head's feeling less like a bag of hammers.

Just imagine I wrote something witty and funny here....

everyone on the art forum is practically your bitch.
you'd be getting responses every which way.

Last time I opened up for commissions I had a small army of pervs and furries bugging me. That and I can only make something decent like once a month. I wish I had the magical power that some have to make everything I churn out gold (or at least bronze) but I dont.

Anyway off topic im a big ol faggot with three butts

What Zekey said.
Photorrealistic is not much in my taste, but trying would be a real challenge for me... And I can´t refuse on a challenge just like that. I been thinking on this all the time since I saw it yesterday... Oh God, here I go again.

Hey, M-F-Ringer, Don´t dis the magazines just like that. They´re not any sort of porno comics, The "Adult" of the ´80´s was just some oldschool blood´n´boobie mix. In my times, that were the comics that the cool teens bought and bragged about with the Marvel superhero readers. Nowadays, those people haven´t seem to have grown a bit, but that´s another story. What I´m trying to tell you is that in the days of Californication on TV, Manga being a big hit in the stores and Hard-boiled, soap-opera and Best-seller novel-like comics disguised as Super-Hero books... There´s really no point of scandalizing at those stories, honestly.

amen dude, Im glad you feel that way, I think alot of our previous contests have been alot of fun. But hardly were challenging. Most of the time the assigment was subjective. This leads people to drawing in a tone and style they were safe with.

This challenge at least asks more of us.

At the very least this is good practice if anybody is truely serious about illustration work and other similar professions

Hah, don't worry. I've got nothing against the magazines, a little nudity never hurt anyone. I'd like them and the cash to be included in the prize, but Pox said something about not giving the prize to anyone under 18.

Guys, if you`re under 18 and you win, YOU STILL GET ALL THE PRIZES, I just can`t sent you adult mags in good conscience.

And hell yeah a little challenge never hurt anyone. Hehe.
