So, I haven't touched this model in a while now, and I've only just started playing around with it again - this time I'm playing around with hair dynamics. Still have some areas to tweek on the hair, aswell as getting it looking like actual hair...here's a little peak anyhow.

hey that looks great, what did you do the hair in?

Thanks.
Max's "Hair&Fur" modifier

i have max but i can hardly use it, do you select the polygons you want to add the hair to?

you need (or should) add a "poly select" modifier to the stack before you add the hair&fur. the polygons/edges/verts that you select will have fur on them.
remember to use perspective viewport to render it, and that it only shows splines until you render.

It looks great, actually very realistic, but there look like there are some reflections on her skin, something that doesn't happen to humans. turn the diffusion of the lighting or whatever you use for max to take off the reflectiveness. She should have a warm glow, not a metallic one.

Yeah, I know what you're trying to get at - it's been fixed since... I have also tweeked the skin shader some more and made the bump mapping more effective. In actual fact though, skin does have some reflective properties to it (ofcourse not so much like what was going on in that previous render) that's why i've also added a spec/reflexion map to the head to help correct it.

Here's a quicky...

The ears and hair could use a little work, but for the most part, it's pretty good.

The house actually going to be in a TC mod for Unreal 3 engine that is going to be available on gameflood.com very soon called Ubatu's Mask. This is just one of a few contributions to the outside area which the player will only be able to see through the windows and possibly from a balcony. it's only got 1x1024 diffuse and 1x512 AO map in it. Thanks though :)

You should buy into zbrush if you have the money, it allows you to add some high quality details to your models. Your "hershy's" text looks pretty nice.

That ain't half bad actually, I can understand your program problems and the models are actually farely decent... for houses that is.

Amazing stuff here.

This thread makes me want to learn 3D. I tried Blender but that seemed a bit too complicated :P Anyone know any decent free 3D programs that are relatively easy to use?

There is always Maya PLE or Softimage Mod Tool

here are some WIP renders from a project I'm doing for a client. They want to build a sunroom and patio on the roof of their apartment complex.

Hehe, seems like Google Sketchup is becoming the MS Paint of 3D... Good job on the house, though. J-D-S, your stuff is incredible. How long have you been using 3D?

thx man

that render was from Autodesk Revit.

Its hard to say, I started with maya maybe when I was 15 but I didn't really get far with it. The material available for online learning is pretty awful I find. I've been using zbrush about a year now I guess, and I've tried the trial of almost every software package I've seen.

nice looking sky, can you point us to the tutorial?

I decided to use my base head to make my version of what I think the Hitman video game character should look like. Here is a concept

Still very WIP, I'm not sure if I'll go into more detail with his torso or not because it is going to be covered, so I'll see. At any rate it needs alot of refinement still. I'm probably going to buy a membership at 3d.sk. I just used one of their free samples and I think it helped me accomplish alot more in short time because I wasn't second guessing my remembrance of anatomy.
