Musicians: The Art Inspired Music Contest just launched today! The theme is to create music inspired by art here on Newgrounds, it’s a great way to celebrate fellow artists and cross-pollinate between the Art and Music Portal crowds!

Epic Battle Fantasy Art and Music Contest

May 1st is the 10 Year Anniversary of Epic Battle Fantasy on Newgrounds and Epic Battle Fantasy 5 recently released on Steam. To celebrate the occasion, we’re hosting a fan art and music remix contest here on NG!

To participate in the art contest, create Epic Battle Fantasy fan art, tag it with “Epic-Battle-Fantasy” and upload it to the Art Portal by May 1st.

To participate in the music contest, remix any of the songs from the Epic Battle Fantasy series 2-5 (when Phyrnna was making the music), tag it “Epic-Battle-Fantasy” and upload it to the Audio Portal by May 1st.

Entries will be judged by @matt-likes-swords, @Phyrnna, @ronjaw and the NG office.

The ten best fan arts and three best music remixes will receive Steam keys (Windows only) for EBF5, EBF4, Bullet Heaven 2 and the EBF5 soundtrack.

Supporters can participate in our Newgrounds Player Beta, which allows you to play Flash content on NG without having Flash enabled in your browser. 2020 what?

Art Portal Updates

We made some big changes to the Art Portal hub this week! It’s now utilizing larger thumbnails and we’ve removed the left column category list, instead moving those to a dropdown. Registered users default to seeing the latest art, while unregistered users default to featured art. We plan to add a tab for your personal art feed but want to get ratings filters working with feed data first.

You can now toggle between scouted and undiscovered artists, or view All Artists combined for the first time ever.

For people who preferred pagination vs endless scroll - the pagination system was a huge bottleneck that made it difficult for us to integrate advanced filtering options. There was already a complicated system in place to filter results by content rating without killing the servers; we’re happy to be moving away from that.

The next update will be the ability to browse with custom date ranges and other updates will include blocked user and blocked tag filtering. We’ll be bringing all this over to Animation, Games and Audio once we’re happy with how it’s working.

Edit: Wow it's been a long time since the last EBF. Also, infinite scroll seems to be a bit of a necessary evil here because of the tradeoffs involved..but is there an end to the 'infiniteness', like in Google Images? I can't seem to reach the footer because it keeps getting pushed away each time

Edit 2: EBF3 had the best music and you know it. Looking forward to the remixes and stuff.

It's really nice seeing the site develop as more time goes on...um...quick suggestion:

throughout the (almost) ten years the Art Portal has been around, how come there's never been a separate category for comics in the Category: bar. I think adding it would invite a different breed of content into the Art Portal and produce more original series for Newgrounds.

I remember 2009... Life was so different for everyone. Inside and outside of NewGrounds. When the design was so simple, more users engaged on the BBS (despite of fears and rumors of a lockdown and creativity), the Medal System was different (features included; when you would look at the user's page of all of the games with medals that they accomplished, the more they completed, the longer the page has gotten, the NG's 2012 design fixed this. You could actually know on what the secret medal was from the other page (a different user), read the description and figure out for yourself. You couldn't get all of the medals, which wouldn't make sense, until the 2012 design had to remove them in response... Also I'm still surprised even to till this day, there is not a medal's page inside the game, when you achieve your goal, and the medal is not working, click on it again and it will work.)

I also think that NG was still at it's golden age at the time. Also I was a fan of EBF for a long time, but I also stop being a fan of the game genre, RPG's. To me, it's not my type anymore at this age. I wish @matt-likes-swords the best in the series (his work and maybe a new series) and his personal life.

Hmm, I see, see, well thanks for answering the question on why the pagination is not needed anymore. Altough this is not the first time I see the endless scroll feature on the internet, some websites have already done this as well, well it works until you don't have a connection anymore or it's lost, or you never find on what you're looking for. Well I'm okay with it, as long as I searching for the submission, that I was looking for. I'm okay with that design for now.

Well I hope that the next update will includes this as well. About the blocked tag filtering feature, how would this work? How many tags that you could have on the list? If you could write the username, without having to completely block the user if you add the tag of their username, when scrolling down or this will not work? Will it have it's own page, or fused with the current block page.

Alright, well... I do have to admit, I've gotten my feet wet with EBF5. Last February, I participated in Troisnyx's ABFH competition, which had us remixing A Breeze From Home (which Phyrnna and Troisnyx did as a collaboration for EBF5), and I ended up getting second best; plus, I've played through quite a bit of EBF5 myself, which I got because of being second place in the ABFH competition (my playing of that has been put on hold though because of the organization assistance with this year's AIM and NGADM). I'm gonna try a different song for this competition, partially because I don't think I can use the ABFH remix as my entry, but... eh, worth a shot. Count me in as a late entrant :D

No winners have been declared yet. Once the judging period is finished, I'm sure the Top 3 will be announced. As for how long that may be, I can only speculate, but it generally takes about a week or so.

You are correct. Once the winners have been chosen, there will be an announcement made. We all have to wait until that happens.
