Trivium are to support Maiden in London. What, really? They were with them on world tour in 2006. The Manchester support act isn't much better as it's Airbourne, some AC/DC knock off. It's a shame Iron Maiden are incapable of picking up good acts for the UK.

I don't know if I like Crack the Skye better or Blood Mountain. They both have my favorite Mastodon songs.

I really wish I could make it to the NYC show, but I got no ride. same with Orange Goblin...and Kylesa.

I'd say Crack the Skye for The Czar, Blood Mountain for pretty much the whole fucking album. I think I'd go with Blood Mountain. So sludgy.

I really like the Ghost of Karelia, Oblivion, and the Last Baron. Those are among my favorites.

Them playing with Bullet For My Valentine was pretty alright, I guess.

I don't know a lot of acts from UK, let alone bands that could fit on a line-up with Iron Maiden...

I know there's DragonForce, and they already toured with them. I know Electric Wizard are from the UK, but I don't know how many of Maiden's fans are open-minded enough to listen to some of the heaviest bands amongs Stoner and Doom Metal bands. Then comes Evile, but they are a thrash metal band. What do you think? I guess that could be nice... I'd go for the band Fen, which are an Atmospheric Black Metal/Post-Rock band. They are pretty fucking great, maybe not the kind of band to line-up with Iron Maiden.

Well, I'd say only Evile and DragonForce would (somewhat) fit on a line-up with Maiden...
The other two are just too different.

Yeah, Evile are one that could nicely fit with Maiden in the UK. I may have not listened to them before but I'm sure I'd enjoy them more than I will "enjoy" an AC/DC clone.

Speaking of Evile heres a vid of them playing Killer from the Deep for an encore at Underworld, with me stagediving at 1:07.

I think my favorite Mastodon Album would have to be Blood Mountain, then Leviathan. I really like Crack the Skye but Leviathan has Hearts Alive which in my opinion kinda trumps both The Czar and The Last Baron.
Blood Mountain is just made of win from start to finish.
Remission... Fuck, I just love everything Mastodon has ever made. Except for maybe Trainwreck, just cause it takes a bit too long to get to the good parts.

Has anyone checked out Terminal Function? I quite like them.

Response to Metal Hell 2011-02-19 15:33:15

Mastodon rankings eh, guess I'll chip in my 2p.

Crack the Skye > Leviathan > Remission > Blood Mountain

Speaking of Mastodon, I STILL need Remission.

Worse things in metal has happened.

Still can't get over the Ozzy Osbourne and Justin Bieber superbowl feature.

I don't get it, in all my local HMVs there's always a copy of Remission.
Order online or something.

Yeah but HMV usually have it for £15. I try to not buy albums that are over £10 there and can easily avoid anything that's at least £15. I can find them cheaper online.

He got shot in CSI.

I loved that Justin Bieber/Ozzy commercial. It got all the douchy people who take metal too seriously butthurt.

I don't really get the hate

I mean, it was a commercial, it wasn't even something substantial

We all knew Ozzy is a sellout, but he might have just pushed it a little too far...

Because the Pepsi Twist commercial how many Super Bowls ago didn't leave enough scars already.

How many paragraphs did you have for the review? I aim for at least eight paragraphs when it comes to reviewing albums. That should be more than enough to comment on most of the album and being OK with the staff, unless it's for a more competitive release like Metallica's albums. For now, I'm happy with my Metal Monday posts which to me are quick reviews.
