Also, I play at 2560x1600, which is a ridiculous resolution. It's completely immersive and gives a new life to every single game you own. I'm giving Half life 2 another play through this weekend, because a quick look I had at it was stunning.

Fuck your life savings, get a better monitor!

Actually, I don't really care much about hardware now. If I save up some, it would probably be for another game. Also, I've never actually cared much for my monitor. But 2560x1600 seems HUGE... My resolution, 1024x768.

JKMonkey, Eclipse914, and Grubby can join. All three of you have valid computer specs.

Well, I have to admit, If you have minimal funds, you can't really join this club that easily. It's not really the processor, but I thought the RAM limit might have been a bit high. You say your RAM is 512MB. I used to have a 256 or so RAM, until I got another chip in. Now I use a whole new computer, and with more RAM, 2 Gigs, just up to the minimum.

If Elder wants, maybe he can lower the system requirements.

I've been getting into PC games lately thanks to some mods.

My PC specs aren't really high, well, I can run HL2: EP2 on the lowest resolution with everything else on low if I want a high-ish FPS.

that damn 3D skybox and lighting effects kill me.

I'll probably look into the specs later seeing as I'm on a different computer.

I thought for sure this would have been shut down. Doesn't PC gaming constitute as "video games"?

Either way, I play some source. Although computer gaming is really quite broad.... lots of games on computers. Hope it works out well for you guys though.

Team Fortress 2 sucks. I've had it for a while and I'm bored of it. Although the game Portal is really good. Too bad it's short.

It should be lowered to 1GB. 4GB is pretty much the gaming standard these days, but when I had 1 GB 5 months ago I could play WoW and Counter Strike Source just fine.

Nice to know that the problem has been solved.
Also, I switch around game music with the music I like. You can do that in most games, as long as you rename the song to what the game song is. Though it's pretty much easier with Oblivion. I just throw music into the archives, and it works. No need to rename for me at all. Yes, it breaks immersiveness, though I prefer listening to music I like while I play.

That's pretty neat, actually. I don't think I can do it with Halo... doesn't appear to be any folder with music in it, or not any that I can tell.

Actually, now I found out I don't really want to. Before for like a month. I liked it, but then when i switched those older songs for a whole new bunch of songs, I got pretty annoyed by the idea.
This is because in Oblivion, when an enemy spots you, the music picks from a combat folder. When you're exploring, it switches to an explore folder. This gets annoying, because you could be enjoying a certain track, when suddenly, the music automatically switches to something else.
Also, some of my tracks are much louder than others, so sometimes I barely here the noises that aren't music. And sometimes I can't hear music without an extremely loud noise. I could get this fixed with audacity, but I edited the same file twice, and another file three times, still not working THAT well.
However, ParadoxVoid, if you play halo on the PC. I suggest you try this out. Because from my past experiences, Halo doesn't usually switch tracks. At least that's from what I can remember. Also, it might not be in a folder. Maybe it could just be scattered throughout the data. But before you change anything, make sure you copy the whole entire Halo directory. Just in case something screws up.

Sure, you can join. Nice specs also. Welcome, and what games do you play?

Anyways, I opened that box containing Unreal Tournament 3. I don't know why, but for some reason, the game says my computer doesn't meet system requirements. I can play it, even though it says my computer can't. It set the texture detail at 2, and it runs pretty smoothly even though everything no matter how close it is, looks blurry. This is as fast as I want the game to run, so if I want, I might bump the detail up to 3.

And another bad thing, is my computer can't process .bik files well. These are movies. Oblivion uses them, UT3 does, and several other games. I solved this in oblivion by just going to the .ini settings and deleting the pathways for what movies to run, therefore making it run no movies and just skip right to the game. However, I don't know how to solve this on UT3...

Fortunately though, it works, it runs fast. And I like the way it's set up. Awesome game, just that I need to find a way to be able to skip those .bik files before they freeze and waste 2 minutes of my time again. However the intro bik movies that display at the beginning run just fine. Very smooth. It's just the movies in the campaign that gets very slow. In Oblivion, all .bik's ran were slow. But then again, I didn't need to even watch them.

You should bump the detail up higher. Your computer should be able to make it, dunno why it's not running.

Ouch. In some games, movies are the key. Uh....call your computer company (if you didn't make it). Do you still have warranty? Maybe you could ship it in, they might fix that. If not, you could go to the many crews devoted to this kinda thing, like the Computer Hospital.

Actually, I did. Although, all it did was run slower. Nothing else. It's just the graphics processing. And my computer does run it, just that everything seems a blurry. Also, I downloaded the v2.0 patch. I ran it and it told me to get a new driver from Nvdia. I went to the website, got the driver, and now the v2.0 patch works. But wait! The graphics are still blurry. The main menu isn't blurry, only the game.

And another bad thing, is my computer can't process .bik files well. These are movies.

Maybe I might actually consider to ask them. But not yet, only if it becomes a very bad problem. For Oblivion, all biks just run slow. In UT3, all biks run smoothly, except a few concerning new chapters freeze after a few seconds. Luckily, if I skip it before it freezes, I can get past this problem.

Fortunately though, it works, it runs fast. And I like the way it's set up.......

Very sheckshy monitor. TacoFreak said that playing 2500x1600 would increase immersiveness. Though, as I'm pretty sure I said before, I have never actually focused on the monitor. Mine isn't a fashionable monitor. Large, basic, Dell monitor. In fact, I'm not even sure if it's 800x600 or 1024x768!

first post in like 3 months....

PC gaming club eh? Nice.

Right now I'm on my laptop, not too bad for gaming:
Intel Core Duo T5750 (2.0GHz)
3GB RAM
ATI HD 3650 (1GB dedicated)
Win7 / Vista home premium

My rig, upstate in my dorm:
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 (2.4GHz OC'd to about 2.88)
2GB RAM (need more)
ATI 4850 (ASUS, w/ aftermarket heatsink)
Win XP (will upgrade to win7 when it comes out)

As for games I play, I'm a huge Valve fan(boy), so mostly TF2, L4d. I've been playing a lot of GTA IV but have yet to hit the MP. Every so often I will pop into UT3 or UT2k4 for shits.

The only game that run poorly at times is Fallout 3, but I'm not playing it so much right now anyway.

Why does everyone manage to have a monitor that is at least above 17" wide? Anyways, around a week ago, I beat unreal tournament 3. It was an awesome game, too bad all models were highly distorted. But to overcome the lack of .bik file processing, I just watched all of the game-movies on youtube.

Ouch. In some games, movies are the key.

Yeah, I didn't know what was going on. Pretty important factors when it comes to the storyline that the movies guide.
Also, I will be receiving a new game. TES3, unlike TES4 Oblivion, will run a lot faster on my computer. Instead of godlike graphics and slow frame rates I get on Oblivion, I'll be getting the opposite. Since TES3 Morrowind was made in the 90's, instead of 2004(Or was it 2005), it should work awesomely. I mean, it may look bad, but managing to get a steady 50+ FPS sounds extremely awesome.

Requirements for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

512 MB system RAM
2.0 GHz processor
128 MB video card
8x DVD-ROM drive
4.6 GB hard disk space

And for The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

Windows XP/2000 - 256 MB RAM, 500 MHz Intel Pentium III, Celeron, AMD Athlon or better processor, 8x CD/DVD-ROM Drive, 1 GB free hard disk space, DirectX 8.1 (included), 32 MB Direct3D compatible video card with 32-bit color support, DirectX 8.1 compatible driver, and Hardware Transform & Lighting support, DirectX 8.1 compatible sound card

Morrowind takes half that RAM, around one fourth of the processor. Same speed, but runs on a CD Drive also, less than one fourth of Hard Disk space needed, and only one fourth of the video card needed. This is going to be awesome. And to think, $23 in total, shipping included.
