Be Free

Lyrics + vocal arrangement : Sean Lang

Song composed and produced by : André C. Kalipke

André : The first song that I wrote for MA. Sean's lyrics speak from my heart.

Sean : André's original instrumental of this song was given to me in 3/92. It was more sparse than this version - strings, bass, basic percussion and then keyboards. After initially recording the vocals in 4/92, we decided that the vocals didn't exactly match the revised instrumental. We added a bridge and re-recorded the vocals with a distorter (for a more aggressive effect) later that month.

(Please also read the author comments of "The Band Introduces Itself" (vocal and recording quality, etc.)...). Lyrics - see below.

I - I used to be so all alone

Closed in by the shadows of this world

Trapped in a prison of despair

But I left all of that behind

I got myself out of that bind

I've got to be - I've got to be so free

You tried oh so hard to oppress me

You tried to close me in on all sides

And you wrapped me in a cloak of dark deceit

But I now know where I stand

No longer slave to a command

I've got to be - I've got to be so free

People dying, children crying

Sounding an alarm around the world

Planet's dying, whole world's trying

What we need is freedom in this world

I'll never be back again

Never try to fake or pretend

Don't you know that it's

Through between you and me

Can't you see that I've

I've just got to be free

I've got to be free - oh so free
