I expect I'll spend tonight watching drunks stumble around at the fireworks show they have in this tourist trap while catching up on the BBS goings on. Hey guys, Happy New Year from everyone here on the Emerald Isle! Unlike almost everyone I know I was not out getting shitfaced at a house party last night, just felt like kicking back at home. So how's 2009 going for everyone thus far?

Also, may 2009 be as fruitful a year for the NGPD as any year previous! May it continue to serve for the betterment of NG, the protection of the Portal, the provision of lulz, and the sexual exploitation of probies!

A prestigious recognition of those who have selflessly, and unwittingly, improved the human race by removing themselves from the gene pool through various acts of stupidity! It's quite comical when you think about it; it's an award you win by failing. Hard.

That'll go quite nicely on my award shelf, right next to the pie eating first place medal and the trophy I won in 03 for staying on a mechanical bull longest.

I love the Dawin Awards, but on the website, I saw something rather depressing. They had a notification of them removing a a nominee for the darwin award due to his circumstances.

the man suffered from depression and was having a very hard time in his job and his life. While at work (he work for a construction company) he tried to use a nailgun to kill himself. His boss heard him yell and found him in the attic of the home; the man was in the corner crying with half a dozen nails sticking out of his skull.

The man did not succeed in his attempt of suicide, but it made me wonder how a guy so tortured would get nominated as a moron. It was simply heart-wrenching.

Well, this thread seems to have temporarily died, so a new topic may be vaguely relevant..

To me, it's getting late in the night, and the day is almost over. I glanced back over today's submissions, and one thing in particular struck me. Excluding this one flash, nothing has surpassed the "Awesome" score (3.60) today. P-Bots post tomorrow won't show this, as a couple of the things will carry over from yesterday night, and I'm sure people will submit higher-scoring stuff in between now and 12:00 NG Time, but, for at least 18 hours, nothing outstanding has been submitted.

Why do the days not average out in terms of good submissions? It even seems that the scores are lower on the weekend, which, to me, doesn't make sense...Most people on NG will be under 18, and thus submit things on the weekend when they are free. Obviosuly, it is the Winter break at the moment, but the statistics still don't add up..

This is a completely non-important issue, but a vaguely interesting one at that. Anyone care to divulge into the world of statistic-based Flash Portal analysis?
