No offense Kashi but Gurren Lagaan sucks so much D; throwing galaxies at eachother, all of the galaxies were spiral galaxies... I couldn't buy into the show, kept rationalizing it, too dumb for me.

Your probably was that you were attempting to rationalize something that was silly and intentionally over the top. That being said, it's not what I would call mindbending, just ridiculous and fun.

Yeah but you know when you already know something isn't for you? You just don't buy into the humor, the action, the horror etc. This was that for me. I watched the whole series despite this assuming maybe it would get better (for me) but it didn't

I think we just hyped it up so much that you went in expecting something better than what it was.
And was ultimately disappointed.
Like when your friends tell you how something is so funny and you just stare at them after the joke.

A lot of people told me Excel Saga was hilarious.
I just thought it was retarded.
Couldn't even watch a full episode without losing interest-- I felt almost shameful for even viewing what I did.
That kind of feeling?

This is probably the problem. I watched Gurren Lagann without any suggestions, just because it was made by the same people who made Fooly Cooly, and, going in without knowing what to expect, I was surprised and completely adored it. I didn't know of any reputation it had until after I had finished it.
I can see how it wouldn't be for everyone, though. It's insane, after all, so, while I may enjoy it, the next guy might not, and that's fine.
However, Knoc, even if you didn't enjoy it, I don't think you can really say it sucks. It was a very well made show, after all, even if it didn't serve the purposes you wanted it to. It's not Gainax's fault that you looked at it too rationally. I imagine you wouldn't enjoy Fooly Cooly very much, either.

My Art Thread.

Eeureka! With an exclamation point!

No, I loved Fooly Cooly and Panty & Stocking With Garter Belt.

I don't sit around analyzing everything logically even if common sense dictates logic has no bearing. I just didn't like the show. The one guy's phrase to believe in the him that believes in the other guys was irritating to me, I didn't like how some parts were very well animated and some were average or below average. I didn't really like the mech designs, or how they went on with the interesting story idea.

I didn't like the chick in the bra giving the kiss of death to the one guy I liked or the character tropes built into the show, which didn't seem to fit to me.

It was just an alright show at best, I think, with my mind as objective as possible, I don't see anything in particular that was unique to the show (I mean over-the-top-ness exists in pretty much every anime and so do the characters) it was just meh.

But to be fair, my favorite manga/anime are: Mushi-Shi, Death Note, King of Thorn, Parasyte, Akira, Cyborg 009, Jing: King of Bandits and stuff like that.

Short version: It was bland to me, but the hype and my general taste made it even less appealing than normally thought.

Then I'm going to recommend Redline.

Not because of any 'Mind Bending' nature of it, but because it is one of the most fun films you will ever see.

Yup
I've seen a terrible indie knock off no one's ever heard of, but not probably one of the most well known movies ever.
I can hear the film buffs weeping.

Response to Art Forum Lounge 2011-05-31 19:29:31

I've seen all those, but what does an alien bursting through your belly, a suitcase full of yellow lights, a boy with psychic powers, a shark biting an airplane and Bruce Willis have to do with my penis?

Talking about movies that "you must see". I started watching Clockwork Orange the other day, but switched it off after about 25 minutes because it was boring me.... am I the only one....

Quite a lot actually.

That explains a lot

And Luwano, I guess the context is part of why that movie excites everyone wearing a beret. I like the book so much more, but then again people don't like Kubrick's super slow as molasses style of directing, so that could be it too.
