Thinking back, i'm kind of sore that i never made the cut for the official memberlist. I just didn't have the time to really push for it. Saying that, i'm glad there's still some old faces i recognise there.

Why don't you come back and try again? I'm sure you'd manage it - there's so many threads coming through these forums now that require someone to provide answers for a noob, it's not like you'd have a shortage of things to reply to in order to get back into the posting groove. And of course, there's always conversations going on in the bigger threads around here.

Apparently i wasn't loved by the big guns while i still show them love. I was here when it was good DAMN IT! Hah, just kidding. I probably didn't deserve to be in the 'club' anyway, the fucking modship ruined everything for me.

I'm so very lazy. Infact, today i think i broke the ten post barrier in a day for the first time in about 2 years. It was only brought to my attention because someone mentioned Wi/Ht? in one of my main man Michaels topics. Otherwise i wouldn't have bothered. Anyway, props to you all, you're still doing a great job. Under appreciated but never forgotten.

On the contrary SCD. That mod incident was one of the biggest acts of hypocrisy I've ever seen. A few black eyes and fat lips got you canned? Please. Have you seen some of the shit that gets posted here on a daily basis? What if those pics were of men instead of women? Would the powers that be still have gotten their shorts in a knot? I seriously doubt it.

Me and Recon have only been doing them because spancker basically said... hey guys, you're my right and left hand men. The rest of the original 10 members have long been inactive, with occasional activity from lightning, leeboy, and Xkwizitone.... so he entrusted that to us.

But yeah, like Recon just said above... the active members themselves could decide who best to run an election or two. Recon and I can always do another in the future, but we don't have to hog all the... "fun." #;-}>

Hey dere.

Why sore? Most people on this site would much rather have been mod (even if only for a time) than be a Wi/Ht? member.....

He wasn't around for long enough, plus bad timing with the elections, most likely. If ol' SCD had stuck around, I guarantee ye he would have long ago been elected.

Fair enough. Still, there's always room for more question-answery helper-people around these parts, so it would be awesome if you ever did decide to make a proper return to this place.

I wasn't around when SCD was active here, but I sounds pretty unlucky on his part. I'm pretty lucky to have been voted onto the memberlist this soon, and I'm sure there are those who feel that I don't deserve my place here, so I'm trying to keep going strong and prove my worthiness.

Whatev. I put teh funs in quotes because it isn't really fun.

Well, I'm glad you like the last round of additions, at least. NEVR definitely deserves it.

I don't like the new users, and well.......... he got "dishonorably discharged" unlike people like you and ron and jon :\, but i still think it's a crock of shit

Well, I got de-reviewmodded without even knowing it. But I take it you mean how I asked to be de-bbsmodded due to not feeling I was active enough to merit continuing.

BBR isn't mod anymore?! Holy shit...

But if you meant why it ruined his chance and WHY THE HELL IT DID THAT?!?!!? then i believe the answer is that i THINK i remember how he simply lost his WILL TO POST or something along those lines when he got demodded, at least for a while

Ah, I see. Strangely enough, once I'd asked to be de-bbsmodded, my will to post INCREASED exponentially... wild, eh?

Well, Bahamut could always run an election. He's already running the regular elections, so he's getting plenty o' practice, anyway.

I never right click to multi-quote.

Left-click inside the post area, hit ctrl-A to select all, hit ctrl-X to cut all... then switch to notepad... then hit ctrl-V to paste it... and repeat with the next tab. When all done, ctrl-X and ctrl-V again.

Who needs the right click menu, man? Keyboard shortcuts. It's what the cool kids do.

Well, for Coop, he does need to right-click if he's on World of Warcraft. I know that since I've played WoW before and used the right-click button a lot. However, besides that, I hardly right click. The only times when I seem to use it is when keyboard shortcuts don't seem to work.

I never right click to multi-quote.

Me neither. I just press the quote button with the middle mouse button to open a new tab.
Then I write the response and everything, cut out anything I don't need to quote, triple-clicking in the post body to select all, press the first mouse button (yes, I have a 5-button-mouse :P ) to copy, clicking somewhere else on the page to get the focus out of the text field, pressing '1' on my keyboard to switch to the previous tab, pressing the 5th mouse button to paste... rinse and repeat until I'm done.

Also there's the "context menu"-button on the keyboard, which brings up... well the context menu... ^^

I use the right mouse button a lot, because of mouse gestures in opera. "Right click, hold, move mouse down, let go of the right button" brings up a new tab. "Right click, hold, move mouse down, then right" closes the tab... it's much faster if you're used to it.
Also my favorites: "Right click, hold, press left mouse button" moves back in the browser history. "Left click, hold, press right mouse button" moves forward in the browser history. Nifteh!

He did say "MOST of" the good users left, Bahamut. Maybe he meant after you got here, and you're one of the few who remained? After all, that's what he was saying about the likes of me, no doubt. :::noddles:::

He said his gf's bro is playing WoW on another computer and stole his mouse to do so. Meaning he had to post without a mouse, and he said he needed the mouse for multi-quote replying. But I was saying he doesn't need a mouse. Since he obviously has a WACOM at least, using the pen to get into this post window is easy enough (technically, you could do it without a mouse/tablet/touchscreen/anything, by using the "tab" key a whole shitload, but that would be a pain in the ass.

Anyway, the point is he was saying he needed to right-click to reply in topics on NG BBS, he isn't the one playing WoW. #;-}>

Those people need some rudimentary Windows lessons, clearly. I've known this shit since the early 1990s.

At 5/6/08 04:09 PM, Haggard wrote: Me neither. I just press the quote button with the middle mouse button to open a new tab.

Yep. Same first step here.

Then I write the response and everything, cut out anything I don't need to quote, triple-clicking in the post body to select all, press the first mouse button (yes, I have a 5-button-mouse :P ) to copy,

In some situations I do triple-click (mostly on URLs), but I don't like triple clicking in huge text fields. For some reason, it doesn't... "convince" me that everything truly is selected reliably. That's why I use ctrl-A. I trust ctrl-A implicitly. #;-}>

I've had multi-button mice before, but I don't think I ever assigned any button (let alone the first!) to the ctrl-C function. O_O

And finally, while I sometimes (like right now, due to only replying to you + Bahamut) type inside the post window, if I'm doing a REAL multi-quote reply, i.e. LUL-style... I cut and paste the text chunks to a notepad window first, no typing inside the posting text box.

clicking somewhere else on the page to get the focus out of the text field, pressing '1' on my keyboard to switch to the previous tab, pressing the 5th mouse button to paste... rinse and repeat until I'm done.
THAT'S how cool kids do it these days! 8)

The 1 key is "previous tab" on your computer? That's freaking weird, man. O_o

I dunno why you rely on mouse buttons so much. To me, the more I use my keyboard and the less I use my mouse, the better. Then again, I'm typing on a laptop on my couch, meaning it's above the end of the right armrest, at an angle, I have a ergo-keyboard on my lap in front of me, and the mouse is on top of the flat area of the laptop in front of the keyboard forward and to the right of me.... not a very great place to use a mouse a lot, but then... I never liked using mice much, even at a desktop. I'm a command line man, I guess.

Anyway, I prefer ctrl-? shortcuts to any mousework is all I'm saying. Even mouse shortcuts/programmed buttons. About the only thing I do let my mouse do besides moving, dragging, and clicking... is I do have the ONE programmable button on it (besides the left, right, and wheel buttons) set to ctrl-W (close window), and I use that a lot when I'm just browsing but not typing... through many tabs, so I can close them without moving the mouse cursor or reaching for the keyboard (which is usally not on my lap when I'm just browsing).

Also there's the "context menu"-button on the keyboard, which brings up... well the context menu... ^^

Yeah, but I just don't like context/right-click menus. NEIN! #;-}>

Alt+F or Alt+E FTW. #;-}>

Nifteh!

Ewwwww.... gestures.... so.... dependent on having your mouse on a really good surface where it moves the cursor VERY reliably. #;-}>

Who needs the right click menu, man? Keyboard shortcuts. It's what the cool kids do.

It's how I've been posting for 11,000+ posts and it's worked for me thus far. I like my systems and this got a little annoying when it doesn't work :(

Guess I'm not a cool kid then :(

Yeah, I can play WoW with a tablet! That would be quite ridiculous. Kind of like playing Assassin's Creed with the guitar from Guitar Hero III - doable, but highly pointless.

Yeah, but Bahamut knows that I've been a WoW player in the past - I haven't played it for months now :( and has taken it one step further to try and give me an insight into how it would be if I tried to play WoW with a tablet.

Maybe I'll have to try drawing that Comic Strip I've been bandying around for a while now...

Awww... guess not. #;-}>

It's great that we all have our habits and all, but dude... you were using a stylus/tablet instead of the usual mouse, right? So you already were doing something other than your usual system anyway, eh?

In such a circumstance, surely you could be convinced to try out some keyboard shortcuts since your tablet won't allow you to do your usual mouse-funs? #;-}>

Members are quiet lately... I can't believe we let this thread slip onto the 3rd page of Wi/Ht, especially when it's getting so very close to 1,000 replies ;P

BTW, even though it's probably gonna be a whiiiile away, I'm looking forward to voting in the next members election. Voting in my first Regulars election was really cool (even though I only got to do it twice or three time), so I imagine voting for members will be even better :P

Oh yeah, that makes me think of something else. There is right clicking for properties that I do need to use sometimes and on FireFox, adblocking anything I need to get rid of.

Yes, but I'm in the middle. I was only with the Golden Age (as some might call it) of Wi/Ht? for a few months before that era ended. Most of the time I've been here is of course, after the incident. So I feel like I'm in the middle of it and wondered what Bonus thought about me.

Perhaps I could, but I still feel that I should wait until a later time. I don't feel veteran enough to take care of anything to do with the Wi/Ht? Memberlist right now. :P If there was an election in 2009, however, I wouldn't mind handling a member election then. :)
Okiedokie.

You know, I wouldn't mind a Ned Flanders quote every now and again, even if he IS a Simpsons character. :P It's too hard to deny the classic Simpsons lines such as "Okileydokiley" and Mr. Burns' "Excellent!".

Indeed, that's what I do. It even amazes people who see me working on the computer. :)
Those people need some rudimentary Windows lessons, clearly. I've known this shit since the early 1990s.

Perhaps so, but the fact that my faster typing skills on the keyboard and shortcut skills really impress workers makes me feel great. It just means that they really appreciate my work there and would get better references from them whenever I apply to jobs.

And you know what I find funny. I feel like the work I do is just "OK". I really am a modest bastard at times.

Heh, that'll be in August/September as we've decided on here. I find that an appropriate time. So by then, whenever I see Recon posting in the Wi/Ht? forum, I should put the voting election to his attention then. After all, that's how we were able to have a member election last month. :)

Yep. Same first step here.

Great. I feel uncomfortable when I have to use a mouse that doesn't have a mouse wheel/middle mouse button. The mouse wheel is a great invention!

I can trust my browser. Opera > all other browsers! :P
But yeah, ctrl-A is the way to go if you want to be REALLY sure... or if triple clicking doesn't work (like in Word, or in notepad).

I've had multi-button mice before, but I don't think I ever assigned any button (let alone the first!) to the ctrl-C function. O_O

It's very useful for lazy people like me. Default setting is something like "back" in the browser, but I really don't need a mouse button for this. There are enough keyboard shortcuts. Like backspace, or ctrl+"cursor left". But I think the latter only works in Opera.
But I use ctrl+c/x/v as often as I use the mouse buttons, I think. Especially when I copy or cut out files on my PC. I COULD use the mouse buttons for that, but somehow I got used to use the keyboard for those kind of actions, so I stick to it.

And finally, while I sometimes (like right now, due to only replying to you + Bahamut) type inside the post window, if I'm doing a REAL multi-quote reply, i.e. LUL-style... I cut and paste the text chunks to a notepad window first, no typing inside the posting text box.

Yeah, writing in Notepad prevents you from browser crashes or acidentally closing a tab... but I'm too lazy to open notepad every time I do a multi quote. ^^

clicking somewhere else on the page to get the focus out of the text field, pressing '1' on my keyboard to switch to the previous tab, pressing the 5th mouse button to paste... rinse and repeat until I'm done.
THAT'S how cool kids do it these days! 8)
The 1 key is "previous tab" on your computer? That's freaking weird, man. O_o

The 1 key is "previous tab" in opera, while the 2 key is "next tab". Really helpful.

I dunno why you rely on mouse buttons so much. To me, the more I use my keyboard and the less I use my mouse, the better.

Because I have a cool mouse! :P
But I'm able to use keyboard shortcuts, too. In fact I use the keyboard as much as the mouse. I use my right hand to do all the mouse stuff like mouse gestures and stuff, and the left hand to do all the keyboard stuff (except for typing. I use both hands for that ^^).
This way I'm able to work with a mouse and with keyboards alike.

Then again, I'm typing on a laptop on my couch, *snip* I never liked using mice much, even at a desktop. I'm a command line man, I guess.

When I'm working on a laptop I use keyboard shortcuts. But most of the time I use a MacBook a friend of mine has, it's a bit annoying to press "apple key + c" to copy... or to press "apple key + l" for the @-sign. apple key+q is the quit command on a Mac. Most of the time I close down the browser because of that. ^^
I always think that I should use command lines more often, but I never get myself around to do it. I have some Linux distributions installed on a VirtualMachine, but I seldom use them.
And WinXP doesn't have a real DOS anymore, which is a pity...

Also there's the "context menu"-button on the keyboard, which brings up... well the context menu... ^^
Yeah, but I just don't like context/right-click menus. NEIN! #;-}>

You should use a Mac. They don't have right click! :P
But they do have a lot of context menues... ^^

Alt+F or Alt+E FTW. #;-}>

Hmm, ALT+F opens the window options in my browser (F is for "Fenster") and Alt+E opens the E-Mail Options... :P
I like to use "Windows Key + D" to get quickly to the desktop.

I use the right mouse button a lot, because of mouse gestures in opera.
Ewwwww.... gestures.... so.... dependent on having your mouse on a really good surface where it moves the cursor VERY reliably. #;-}>

The mouse pad I bought at IKEA for a few cents is good enough. ;)

It's perfectly fine for this topic to be buried under WAY more than 3 pages of Wi/Ht?, dude...

Funny, cause I think the real Golden Age was back before SK ever invented the program that made "The Incident" even possible.

So to me, the thread thread is nowhere as much of a "Turning point" or "end of an era" as you and no doubt others see it.

To me, that only had to do with lists and listmakery. Nothing to do with the forum or its inhabitants.

Sure, SK pretty much left due to that, but he was going to leave sooner or later, anyway (see: his dropping of RG due to college/work/getting married).

I can't think of anyone else I can definitively point to that as being the reason they're not here besides SK, and again... that ain't really the reason anymore even with him, so... yeah.

Okiedokie.

Yeah, well... be careful. I know from experience that often the only thing impressing people in the workplace gets you is constant questions, requests for training, etc. etc. in addition to your normal duties with NO EXTRA PAY, so... unless your workplace has an actual "trainer" position open that you could end up in with better pay/less shitty responsibilities, it might be better to avoid getting the reputation of "The guy who can do anything with a computer! I actually remember the days before the mouse wheel even more fondly. Then you had a left, middle, and right button on the 3-button mice that were all consistent in shape and size, usually... and middle clicking was much easier with a "real" button than it is with most wheels, which tend to like to move (either up/down or side-to-side with the wheels that have that function).

The 1 key is "previous tab" in opera, while the 2 key is "next tab". Really helpful.

Whoa. I never noticed that. There's a problem with that, though. If any of your tabs are blank pages (now called Speed Dial), hitting 1 or 2 when you get to that tab just types the numbers into the URL box. #;-}>

Similary, I can't change out of this tab by pressing 1 or 2 (well, obviously).

See, that's just it... if I'm browsing the web but not typing much, then I'll use my mouse more. But if I'm typing on NG BBS, say, I tend to ONLY use my mouse for:

A) opening a few new topics to read with middle-clicks
B) clicking quote-reply buttons on posts I'm going to reply to
C) selecting the text post area for cutting and pasting

And that's it. Everything else I do with the keyboard. All the alt-tabbing, shift-alt-tabbing, hitting space, down, up, page down, page up, ctrl-W, ctrl-X, ctrl-C, ctrl-V, ctrl-Z, alt-ctrl-Z, alt-left and alt-right... But I don't mind right-clicking that much and don't like context menus... so... I'll take a pass.

Alt+F or Alt+E FTW. #;-}>
Hmm, ALT+F opens the window options in my browser (F is for "Fenster") and Alt+E opens the E-Mail Options... :P
I like to use "Windows Key + D" to get quickly to the desktop.

You're crazy, man. alt-F and alt-E just pull down the File and Edit menus from the menubar. O_o

No, not as much as he used to be, there are others who are infinitely worse. j00bie and Denvish... d0gma and ShittyKitty....... where have you all gone :(

Gee, I'll bet that makes whoever I was talking about feel SOOOO much better, then, to know there are others infinitely worse. #;-}>

Dogma's been gone a looooooooooong time. ShittyKitty didn't just get too busy for NG, he got too busy for his own site, Retrogade... POOF it went, circa April 2007, IIRC.

Denvish and joobs.... I have no idea. COME BACK, DENJOOBS.

He did say "MOST of" the good users left, Bahamut. Maybe he meant after you got here, and you're one of the few who remained? After all, that's what he was saying about the likes of me, no doubt. :::noddles:::
I know you're the most optimistic person according to the internet, but you have to agree that posting in stat threads only and never even controlling your own list or significantly helping out in the small help threads doesn't qualify as being a MEMBER, it qualifies as being a regular, the members that fit THAT description disgust me.

It's not about being optimistic, really. It's about not looking at the negative aspects of things you enjoy. Do you harp (either internally or externally) on the negatives of a girlfriend or... any friend for that matter? Or do you have more fun enjoying the good parts? Unless I'm in a REALLY bad mood, I'm always more the latter than the former.

Similarly, if there are members on Wi/Ht? that you don't agree with the election of because you didn't feel they deserved it, that's fine, but why not focus instead on those you DO think worthy?

Or just not worry about such relatively unimportant status matters, for that matter...

BONUS MAKE GFOX TEH SAD COOKIE. ;_;

That's right. Some mouse wheels are quite crappy. But my mouse (and the mouse wheel) is so outworn that it doesn't move up or down if I don't want it to. ^^
I also remember when you only had two mouse buttons. I started with an Amiga back in the 90's (yes, I was a little behind the times then [uh... is "behind the times" the right phrase to use? I actually mean the opposite of "ahead of the times" ;) ]).

I can trust my browser. Opera > all other browsers! :P
But yeah, ctrl-A is the way to go if you want to be REALLY sure... or if triple clicking doesn't work (like in Word, or in notepad).
I think I've told you before that I use Opera, too, man.

Maybe you have, but I can't remember if you did so. But that's great. As I've said: Opera > all other browsers! :D

It's very useful for lazy people like me. Default setting is something like "back" in the browser, but I really don't need a mouse button for this. There are enough keyboard shortcuts. Like backspace, or ctrl+"cursor left". But I think the latter only works in Opera.
Yes, the thumb button on my mouse is set to back by default, as well. But as I think I also mentioned, I have it set to close tabs in Opera/Firefox, with ctrl-W.

I only use ctr-W when I'm working on the laptop. On the PC I always close tabs with a mouse gesture or with a click on the tab with the middle mouse button/mouse wheel.
But mouse gestures are not that easy with a touch pad and the laptop doesn't have a "middle mouse button", so... ctrl-W is the quickest way to close a tab there. ^^

Yeah, writing in Notepad prevents you from browser crashes or acidentally closing a tab... but I'm too lazy to open notepad every time I do a multi quote. ^^
I hear that. Still... better safe than sorry!

I keep saying that to myself, but the lazy part in me won't listen...

The 1 key is "previous tab" on your computer? That's freaking weird, man. O_o
The 1 key is "previous tab" in opera, while the 2 key is "next tab". Really helpful.

Yes, text boxes kinda destroy that nice feature. Especially those on pages like dict.cc where the text box is ALWAYS active...

You should use a Mac. They don't have right click! :P

I see, again. ^^
But File and Edit menues are alt+D and alt+B respectively. You know, different language, different shortcuts. ;)

So you've got a problem with what I say and where I post in this forum? I could say what I don't like about you here, but I won't. I don't like being bitter towards users in this forum.

Sure. Properties is where it's at.

Flash also needs right-clicking.

Yes, but I'm in the middle. I was only with the Golden Age (as some might call it) of Wi/Ht? for a few months before that era ended. Most of the time I've been here is of course, after the incident. So I feel like I'm in the middle of it and wondered what Bonus thought about me.
Funny, cause I think the real Golden Age was back before SK ever invented the program that made "The Incident" even possible.

You think so? When did you think that Golden Age end? Others have said Early 2005, so I wonder what you think.

Sure, SK pretty much left due to that, but he was going to leave sooner or later, anyway (see: his dropping of RG due to college/work/getting married).

But didn't that incident killed much of his interest in NG? I recall him claiming that.

I can't think of anyone else I can definitively point to that as being the reason they're not here besides SK, and again... that ain't really the reason anymore even with him, so... yeah.

D0GMA?

And you know what I find funny. I feel like the work I do is just "OK". I really am a modest bastard at times.
Yeah, well... be careful. I know from experience that often the only thing impressing people in the workplace gets you is constant questions, requests for training, etc. etc.

But if it leads me to getting a job at the place I'm at now, I think it's worth it.

in addition to your normal duties with NO EXTRA PAY, so... unless your workplace has an actual "trainer" position open that you could end up in with better pay/less shitty responsibilities, it might be better to avoid getting the reputation of "The guy who can do anything with a computer! NO, REALLY! TURN TO HIM CONSTANTLY WHEN YOU'RE AT A LOSS." #;-}>

There is one thing about this workplace. I have hardly used a computer there. Infact, with what I do, I don't need to use one.

Or as my neighbour once suggested, playing Tomb Raider by using a steering wheel. :P I guess it could work if you're on a vehicle, but silly if you're just going through the levels by foot (i.e. the whole of the first game).
Wouldn't work with the Wii Wheel + Wii version of Tomb Raider, I don't think. For one thing, you need nunchaku to play Wii Tomb Raider... for another, remote wouldn't be aimed at screen while holding wheel. #;-}>

I was actually referring to the Playstation Tomb Raider games and not Anniversary for the Wii.

No his sign up is 2004 because he signed up in 2005.
