I would try to keep as MUCH spam off of newgrounds as possible. Some of it is okay, but other spam, well, it just has no point! That is what I would do if I was a moderator. I don't care that much about deleting users, because they have a right to be on newgrounds and submit their stuff, but I would want to have a higher voting power, if that would be possible. Sadly, these are all 'wants' and 'would bes' that I am talking about.

Unless.....you made me a moderator?........

I've seen this thread a couple of times before, and since I have some free time, I decided to post reply... so...

At 10/16/06 11:31 PM, WadeFulp wrote: If you have spare time and would be willing to help out Newgrounds, what kind of moderator would you most like to be?

If I had to choose in what kind of mod could I be, it would be something like this:
Review, Icon, BBS
(Review would be the highest priority, and BBS the least).

Personally I think being a review mod is cool, especially because I have the free time to read through walls of text, and sometimes I read reviews from certain submissions, just for fun. Even if I don't usually review submissions, I'd still like to be one.

Then, my second choice is Icon. And probably you (whoever is reading this) must be asking yourself why would someone want to be an icon mod. I make icons every now and then, but that's not all. I think the icon helpers section actually needs a lot of help. There aren't too much people making icons (I think). Mostly it's because not many people know of this section, but anyway, since I already make icons every now and then, being able to approve them straight away would be cool.

My third and last choice is BBS. Even if this is the place where I spend most of my time, it's not my first choice. I already spend a lot of time at the forums, and being a forum mod is a really hard work. It takes a lot of time, you have to go trough a bunch of threads, and delete and ban a lot of things and people. Sure, being one must be good, but as I say, it's one of the hardest works on this site, and I think I'm already helpful right now, no real need to be a BBS mod.

I know nothing about audio, so I'll say nothing about it.

Also indicate what time, or times, you are most active on Newgrounds and how much time you spend on the site.

I spend a lot of time on the internet. And this is basically the only site I visit. So, from Mondays to Fridays I can be here from 2 PM till about 9:30 PM. Though I'm usually less active after 7PM (just because I rest a bit after being all day on NG, I don't have any real activity).
Saturdays and Sundays I can be here the whole day.
(Times are based on the Uruguay Time).

and why you'd make a good mod.

Honestly I'm quite a mature person for my age, and I think that's a good thing. And the only important bad thing I see is that English is not my first language, so I make some typos every now and then.

I can't promiss anyone here will be a mod

Don't worry, I don't expect to be a mod, especially because I haven't been here a long time, ha.

Cheers :D

"So if you had the chance, which type of mod would you like to be? Keep the reponses professional, and on topic. Basically your response should be like an essay, stating what type of mod you'd like to be, and why you'd make a good mod."

Review moderator

I'm always watching flashes and looking at the reviews to weigh either on the negative side or the positive side of the flash submission. I constantly see portal submissions with reviews that should probably be deleted (Generally it's spam I notice, however I occasionally come across a abusive comment).

Been with Newgrounds.com since 2005, had old experience with spam groups years ago, but I've put it behind me (Minus the Clock day submissions). I'm most active on Newgrounds after school, however I do sometimes come on before school and even sometimes in between in my computer class (They teach nothing but absolute common sense with the computer). My time zone is GMT -8:00 Pacific Time (US and Canada). The hours of which I get on are around 9:00am-10:00am, 12:30pm-1:45pm, then I get home which can be around 2:00pm(Getting online) and can remain on/off till around 6:00pm-7:00pm. I get off then as I go eat dinner and do other things. Weekends I can be on much later as I don't need to get up early for school. These hours are about 9:00am-11:00pm or later.

I'm not all about making myself super well-known on Newgrounds as I choose to simply lurk around and watch whats going on, which is what a review moderator would appear to do.

I have experience as a moderator and administrator. My moderator experience from from a forum with 20,000+ members, and my administrative experience is from the website I own dealing with billing, customer support, and everything in that general area. My website only has around 565 members but is growing pretty quickly. This experience is simply to show that I do know how to deal with people in a calm and mature matter.

I am currently 17 years old, live in California, and can provide the assistance you may or may not require if you begin to recruit more members to become part of the staff.

If any other information is required feel free to contact me on anything you wish to know about.

1)Review Moderator
Newgrounds was established so that aspiring flash artists could be recognized easily and excel to higher reputation, as Krinkels has done for himself with his madness flash series. Not only did he become famous throughout the internet, he also generated a lot of revenue due to many users and guests seeing his movies on Newgrounds.
Review moderators help eliminate abusive reviews that could discourage artists to polish their skills and advance to new levels. I am ready to become a review moderator because I truly consider them to be a key essential to help NG artists get better at flash without felling intimidated by someone's review. I am ready to help newgrounds become a better place.

2) Bulletin Board System (BBS) Moderator
No doubt that when newgrounds came out with the BBS, there were going to be countless spam threads and trolls. Usually users go to the BBS when they become a little more comfortable with newgrounds and would like to explore its other features. The BBS Mod helps newer users out when applicable, and deletes/locks threads that are recreated, abusive, or otherwise against the BBS guidelines. I would like to become a BBS Moderator because it seems there are never enough to monitor the BBS in whole. I've pmed many mods about lists of abusive/spam threads that have been ongoing, such as Dry-Ice, gOS, Mal and Zerok. I'm pretty sure they're a little tired of it by now, and would like it to end :P

3)Audio Moderator
As Newgrounds helped to give developing flash artists a chance, it branched out to audio as well. Audio moderators have to deal with plagiarized, abusive, and otherwise malicious submissions, and I am ready to take on such a task.

4) Icon moderator
Although it is good to help flash artists out by finding an icon, it isn't one of the top priorities at newgrounds. I think that if the flash artist really worked hard on their flash, they should be able to consider an icon for themselves. If this were true, then there would be a lesser need for the Icon moderator. I do admit, it is fun to help them out, but modding icons seems like a waste of talent.

I hope this goes by the guidelines, and that you all consider it.

Im on the sight for arounds 2-3 hours a night arounds 6-9 pm In terms of newgrounds time. The only kind of moderator i would like to be is a review moderator. I like reading good honest reviews almost as much as i like seeing stupid counter-productive reviews deleted. I think if someone has put the time and effort into making a flash movie and you make the choice to review it, you should put time and effort into the review you are writing.

I dont mind if someone zeroes a flash movie as long as they have a valid reason for doing so, and explain their reason in a well manoured reasonable fashion. What i cant stand is reviews like this "shit flash boring" or "waist of 2 minutes of my life" if someone has a genuine problem with the artistic content expressed within a flash movie thats fine with me but i cant stand rude generic responses. People who submit flash to newgrounds are the reason why this site is so great, therefore it is only fair to make sure reviews left on their work are of a reasonable standard and can help the artist improve his/her work or give praise where praise is due.

If i were a moderator i would only want to be a review one and i would delete reviews which were purely garbage and a serious breach of the rules. I would focus my attention on the portal on recently submitted flashes. Dont forget some flashes only get 4 reviews or less, if someone has put time and effort into their work they deserve some respectable reviews not some idiot who has no idea about flash writing a pile of junk for no other reason than to get a response from the author.

Wow having read what i wrote back im sorry if i sounded a little crazy!

I would like to be an Icon moderator.

Firstly, because being a moderator is fun! Secondly, because I won't be getting a golden aura, people will treat me like a normal person. I am on most actively on weekends (no duh) and on weekdays from 4pm - 10 pm (not a lot, I know. I am very active, though, TRUST ME ON THIS ONE.) (Austria time). I'm on about, like, 56 hours per week.
Being an Icon moderator would be best for me because it is seemingly a relatively easy job. I also know when something is inappropriate or rude (like most people do), so, all in all, I think the job is right for me.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

No, you.

Review mods watch over reviews. They can delete incoming bad reviews and they can also go through a list of reviews that have been marked as abusive and either delete the review, delete the review and ban the reviewer, clear the abusive flags and penalize the users who flagged it, or clear the abusive flags with no penalty to those who flagged it.

i would like to be a reviewmod.
i am on newgrounds most of the time,
and know, whats good in a review and whats abusive.
i would know wethere to simply delete a post or ban a user.

I think I would actually enjoy being a forum mod, that woulld be my #1 choice. I spend alot of time on the BBS (mostly General section - yes I have a rather sparser-than-average social life, being a PC maniac) but I post every now and then if I bump into an interesting thread. I'm pretty much an outgoing person, I like to make jokes(sometimes to the point of stupidity, but thats rare and usually happens after drinking) and me messing/dicking around is a recurring and usual thing. I can be a serious guy when the need arises. I'm a relatively calm person with a slight sense of humor, but I take mod assignments seriously and try to do the best I can to keep people informed about what's right and what's wrong, and enforce penalties upon any offenders. I don't get impressed by lame excuses and wannabe sentimental stories and people asking things like "please don't ban me I won't do it again" or " I'm a sad guy and you'll hurt my feelings", etc. - I have absolutely no problem turning from your average happy Joe into your average dead-serious Joe. I have a grasp on the general rules and how-to's, have had prior moderating experinece (but not alot - a couple of months or so, until the forum I was on ceased to exist) and have been visiting NG since 2005, but never made an account until 3 years later. I live like halfway accross the globe from NGHQ and their local time, but generally I'm online from 02:00 AM - 05:00 AM US local time (thats before classes) and when I come home, I'm on the internet at about midday and up to about 05:00 PM US local time. I'm not always online at those hours, it depends largely on my schedule, both school-related and recreational. During weekends, I will most assuredly be on all day. In the summer it might be a bit difficult for me to get to NG cause I don't have constant access to a PC as I do at home. My #2 choice would definitely be the one of audio mod, as I spend time on the audio portal as well and I enjoy listening to music. Hmmm... #3 would be the review mod - I get annoyed when I see people posting senseless, poorly-written abominations and randomly killing submitted material through the use of 0-bombings and chain-blams. And last would be icon mod - sounds fun and all, but it seems pretty monotonous. Hopefully I've managed to piece together an acceptable description and not make a fool of myself.

I'd like to be an Audio Mod, because I like music, I visit the AP a lot and review there, I spend a fair amount of time at the Audio Forum. And I am learning how to make songs at the moment.

Also, sometimes it's interesting what stuff gets submited to the AP, because most of the shit gets deleted.

I will be very active during summer, the other seasons of the year, less active, but at least 3 hours.

To be honest I don't have to many reasons to be an Audio Mod, but I'd love to anyway, and if I'd get the place, I would sort out what I am going to do.

I doubt that I'll be a mod, but if there is a chance, I would get excited about it immedeatly and would wish to take the place.

I'd like to be a review mod. I think I'm someone who'd do a much better job of managing abusive reviews than abusive threads and users. I also wouldn't want the responsibility of having to judge borderline threads, and would probably, like most mods, end up incurring a lot of hate for my power. I think if I was a review mod then I would have the respect and signifiance of a gold aura without the loathing.

But still, real life and stuff, and all the annoying NGers and spam... I wouldn't really ever want to be a mod... geez it must suck.

Well, I'd most like to be a forum moderator...

I made a news post about it some time ago just for the sake of a note to self. It was the pros and cons of me being a mod. I'll put them here...

PROS:
1) I swear by the BBS Rules as if they were my Bible.
2) I would make sure everything is orderly, and be non-corrupt in my acts.
3) I make sure my posts are never just for the sake of +1'ing.
4) I exercise some wit in my responses.
5) I'm on at regular intervals, so I would be reliable.

CONS:
1) I'm not yet of minimum age to be a mod, which alone is reason enough for me not to.
2) I only have a little over 200 posts, a pathetic amount for any user, let alone an enforcer.
3) I generally don't have good ideas for threads.
4) I'm not very well known, and finally
5) I don't own or sell any gay porn.

And that's pretty much it...

A forum mod, because I spend most of my time on it. I have lots of spare time because I'm still a student at school so that'd be a plus....and to be honest, I think having power would be more fun than just being a regular user, though it would require great responsibility, which we all learned from spider-man.

While everyone would like to be a Forum mod, I would actually like to be a review mod. I know the achilles' heel to this is that I have a garbage whistle. But when NG was remodled, I was confused when I marked reviews, so I accidentally dug myself into a hole, I was confused. But otherwise, I would like to think I'd do alright, my reviews tend to be marked as helpful, I don't spam 10's and 5's all the time, and I'm never too negative on a flash, i.e. I try to offer advice on what could improve the flash.

Reveiw mod please. I am sick and tired of abusive reveiws, I have a deiety wistle to prove this and I have 350+ reveiws to prove that I know what a decent reveiw looks like, I am always flagging abusive reveiws anyhow so why not have me just delete them instead of just flag them? I also am good at figuring out which reveiws are by an alt or author to cheat at getting awards and have no problem cleaning those out.

Thanks for listening.

Although everyone would love to be a forum mod, it's too much power for most people. Poozy's on the verge of insanity because of it. I'd want to be a review mod. I don't think I could handle being a forum mod, and much less take on the responsibility of banning/deleting useless topics. I don't have a good sense in those things.

A review mod would be swell because I mostly stay on the games/movies section, and know quite a few spam crews to watch out for.

But, seeing as all of these posts shall be ignored, my typing is in vain. ;_;

Response to Would you like to be a mod? 2009-05-11 19:48:19

Well, I suppose this is kind of split two ways, between which kind of mod i'd like to be.
To start, I'd be glad to help out on NG, due to lack of Flash or Audio equipment.

I suppose I'd like to be a review mod, due to the amount of stuff that can be overlooked because nobody's around to point out the bad. Not to say that it should be that easy, but even so, it shouldnt be overlooked. I know what's abusive, and can help those who havent quite got a handle on it.

Next, in a close tie, comes being a BBS mod. I mean, banning dorks would be fun and all, but it's not like these dorks are really hampering a BBS experience. I'd like to help more than I would like to be an idiot handler.

As for the other two categories, I dont know enough about music to be able to judge it, and I havent heard much of a user committing an icon transgression.
