Don't Escape
I'm a werewolf and it's a full moon. I have to find a way to prevent myself from escaping.

Did you play Ragnarok Online? Do you like that game?
3.52 / 5.00 12,595 ViewsA lot of users have been noticing lately that it takes forever to download games and movies during the day. This is because Newgrounds has become so darn popular that we are using up insane amounts of bandwidth! And this is without any recent press coverage!
Our problems used to be hardware-related, but since we bought new servers, we have been able to accomodate more users. We are currently serving more than one million Portal view pages EVERY DAY! We are constantly consuming our 100mbps line - that is the equivalent to two T3s. We are even doing it during off-peak hours!
We don't want to discourage people from submitting movies to NG or anything like that. The only thing I can recommend is that authors try REALLY HARD to minimize their file sizes. If your Flash movie uses full-length songs, try replacing them with some royalty-free music from the Newgrounds Audio Archives.
We may have to hold back on showcasing large submissions until we get more bandwidth. "Link's Quest For Ass 2" is a hilarious movie, and has been extremely popular, but I removed it from the frontpage today because it was almost five megs. It isn't anyones fault - it is just our bandwidth limitations. You can still find it in the Zelda collection if you want to watch it. The frontpage draws too much of a crowd. :)
We are working on doubling our current bandwidth with the addition of a second 100mbps pipe. This might not be ready until April, although I hope to have it done as soon as possible. Until then, try visiting the site during the early morning and late evening for the best results!
And joy of joys! Has anyone noticed that we don't have nearly as many pop-ups as we used to? ;)
Woah....this may pose a problem for some animators, but hey, it doesn't hurt to try minimaixing movies for the good of newgrounds users.
Equivalent of two T-3's? Jesus, how much does that cost you a month? A year?
Well hooray for newgrounds!(popularity wise)

It's sorta like this... Would you rather buy a small house once a year, or host a really cool website? :)

Damn. Sounds expensive! But it's awsome to think how popular newgrounds is!
Holy crap, that's going to be a lot of bandwith.
Hey Tom. Thanks for letting us know. And the whole time I thought it was my pc and it's crappy bandwidth. Glad to see that you're letting us know about these things, otherwise, I would still be yelling at my service provider. LOL

Don't look at me, Tom... my file sizes are quite small :D But I'll be using up a lot of bandwidth when I'm done making every damned submission I plan to give to NG.
I bet you never expected NG to blow up into the huge spectacle it is back when you were making html-based Assassin games, eh Tom? Congrats, man.

I did notice, I just thought it was my firewall blocking them... So how are you making $ without them?
Yeah...totally cool. I have to ask and im not complaining but why is it that the servers close down between 4 and 5...(this is prime time for me in australia-8 till 9)
I plane to submit a big movie to NG when its done, but that'll be long after April. I think itll take min. 6 mounths to finish, so there should be no problem there. :)
Yay no more coke ad's or Dvd collection pop-up slowing my comp i get on NG in the morning and there virtually no problems then the site is lighting fast.
Tom...You host the website on ur computer and all the sumbmissions on it as well???? if so...how big is ur hdd and how much space is this site taking up? i imagine its a crap load!
Ah yes. The ol' bandwidth issue once again.
I do stick around during the evening to see all the great content.
All the movies just keep coming and coming in a matter of seconds, let alone milliseconds! ;)
People really should calm down on seeing these things, though.
Yeah, I noticed all those stupid coca cola ads that use to pop up while I'm trying to download stuff are now gone. I still think all those anime porn ads are pretty stupid, (IF YOU HAVE EVER JACKED OFF TO ANIME PORN, YOU ARE PATHETIC)Anyways, Im glad your always trying to make newgrounds better and better, keep it up Tom.
Gah! I was really glad to NOT see that stupid coca-cola ad anymore. Glad to hear about the up and coming bandwidth operation. Thats gonna make the site lighting fast, you rock!

I love Link's Quest for Ass 2!
i hope it doesent cause to much of a problem...i never knew newgrounds was dis popular!
Have you thought shutting newgrounds down? (just kidding hhaha, forget about it)
Anyway, you should create link for users to donate money to your PayPal acount. It's likeley that out of those 1 000 000 users some will donate some $$$.
Also you could reduce the size limit for submissions.
Hey Tom,
Just an idea, but, you should perhaps highlight an audio artist or two on the front page to promote the audio portal more. Maybe even highlight some of your favorite tracks so far. Once you mention specific things that get your groove on, people tend to get interested and hit it up more.
Just a thought. :)
Wow thats crazy how many ppl come on this site now. Im sure it will all work its self out some how.
The loading's been OK for me, but not spectacular, like it was when you got the new server.
I'm releasing a new movie tommorow. Should only be around 600-700k. It's just enough for a fast load, and so the quality of the music is good, but not so perfect it takes a huge amount of space.
Hmm, could all the people actually watching movies before they vote have something to do with it?

wow, those are a lot of interesting statistics about ng. i'll take the advice of not viewing ng so much.
wow i did not know that many ppl came to newgrounds!
well anyway good luck!
thanks tom for making all the changes (and sacrificing a house every year). thanks especially for getting rid of some of the advertisements, i dont think anybody misses them. keep up the changes
