Nobody likes having to sift through ads when they're just trying to chill, but they really are a neccessary evil. Without them, Tom would get no money, and he'd have to make us pay for a subcription... now wouldn't that suck gigantic balls? I do wish he had less porn ads however; it's hard to pay attention to a serious flash movie when some ad is blaring at you to "cum on in". But I guess they're just trying to appeal to the 13-year old computer nerd demographic (which includes to significant amount of NG users).

yeah.....I have a DSL, but sadly, for days now, I haven't been able to get anything to load. I've tried all times of day and night, and no luck.....hopefully things get straightened out with that soon.

Well excellent flash movies
like broken saints or w/e
have impressive voice acting, and music

now i've tried myself to limit those files as much as possible but the flash movie is still unbelievably big.

plus i like to use three shadows and frame by frame action instead of tweening...

i am not saying all of the GOOD flashes are huge i am just saying gerenally i enjoy flash movies with voice acting a lot more then plain looking at the text.

that sucks

Tom, David Scott here.

I have been entertained by Newgrounds for a year or more now. The concept of the site is superb and exciting... its the new TV, but improved Ten fold.
If i was rich, i'd donate u guys money, i believe in the site that much.. but unfortunetly i ain't.
But however i feel strongely that a payment for access to the site must be created, i hate these sites that charge for drivers, upgrades, porn and whatever.. but i can honestly say that Newgrounds is damn! worth it.
If we are going to see an improved service from you guys.. i say fuckin 'A.

I'm from Scotland, So here take my freaking £20 subscriptions (for a year? a month?) u decide... but come on people lets give Newgrounds a hand, who can put a price on laughing your ass off all evening with your bros, while other people watch shit like Opera and COPS.

I'm sure this sort of thing has been considered before, but a really great way for NG to make some money would be to sell a collection of the best animation on the site. I think to get around all the copyright concerns would be to ask the good animators to donate one flash piece a piece to the project. If I were the Fulps I would convert all the files to mp4 files or wmv and put them on a cd. However there would be some publishing costs, to offset that ya start small. Maybe with a limited pressing of 1000 limited edition copies, which would cost about a $1000.00. I bet that would sell out very fast. Once the ball got rolling you could turn it into a contest to get on the yearly NG best of cd. I say cd right now because that would be the cheapest media to publish with. Ok that's enough of a rammble for today..........

I think the best way for NG to make money would be to publish a best of DVD each year. The only problem is that a lot of the music and images are copyrighted by other companies. Although I'm sure there is enough really good quality material on the site without any copyright infringing materials to start with. I'd have a yearly contest to get people to create totally original content to get release on the DVD. The cost of publishing would be a little over a dollar per DVD. So start out small with a limited release of 1000 at 12.00 a piece, the publishing cost would be around 1150.00 and don't let them charge you for the glass master! I think DVD releases of the best of NG could get you an even larger audience :) plus a steady income as each release gets bigger!

Make people with 56k connection pay money to go to Newgrounds, and then ally with all the cable and dsl providers! You will gain respect from them because all the 56kers with buy cable/dsl! Might work in my world but I don't know about everyone else's.

It's worth pointing out that there's a little thing called "Money". Lots of people don't have enough of it to afford cable or dsl. Besides, do you know what would happen if NG started charging 56kers to go to the site? Let me tell you. Newgrounds would sink like a brick. I don't know what percentage of people who come here are 56kers, but I imagine that there's a hefty number of them. Trust me, forced payment systems DO NOT work very well. If you don't believe me, check out IGN or cheatcc. Both used to be awesome sites until they started restricting access to people. Whenever you restrict someone from seeing something they could before, people generally get pissed off at you. Please tell me you weren't serious.

Though I know Tom isn't reading most of these replies, I might as well suggest it.

If you have to much bandwidth problems, and so much file storage, why not store some files on reliable users?
I'd be willing to hold a few hundred megs of movies, if Tom or Wade were to ask me.
Hell, I'd mail them my computer if they asked me personally!

I love this site. I first found out about it off of yahoo about 3 years ago back when this site wasn't as popular. Pico was the game that did it for me it inspired me to think about computers all the time i mean it is like a frickin drug. This new bandwidth is going to be amazing. It is kinda weird that this site has more then 250,000 members. Good job tom.

Yes i've noticed that if i can get on newgrounds at all, i have to redo it after every new page i get to, and i have DSL..getting rid of the pop-ups was a BIG plus, thank you very much

I am still getting a lot of popups I am just glad that I have a cable modem, but that doesnt help unless it is a low point in the day

Well... atleast the upside of it is that its a clear sign of NG's massive and widespread popularity :)

I know the feeling. I setup a linux server to host some stuff, and in a couple day 50 gigs of Bandwidth was eaten up. I'm sure your number are a lot more..large though.

There should be a special subscription type thing as said above, where you should get special features like adding color to your name in the bbs, increased file size for uploading, etc :)
